dianes salvnficos -La Virgen y el Viejito (Dios)- mencionados al prin-
cipio, pero con operancia en la mente del personaje novelesco a lo largo
del itinerario" (Gonzalez Reboredo 1979: 51).
De estas lecturas sera conveniente retomar la interpretacion que
asume que Dona Barbara no expresa la aniquilacion total del "otro"
como en Facundo, sino que valora ciertos elementos de aquel. "Civili-
zacion" y "barbarie", como los personajes que encarnan la dicotomia,
incluyen mutuamente en su representacion rasgos que pertenecen a
su opuesto. Donia Barbara transforma la vision maniquea de Sarmien-
to y, a su vez, la enriquece.
