No discutir
The other day I bumped into Philip, a friend I hadn't seen for ages.
Once I was sure it was him I went over and said, "Philip. What a surprise! You are looking well. You've lost
some weight but you look ...fitter, stronger."
Has perdido algo
"I don't know," he said. "I think look the same as ever."
"No, no way, you look different. You look much better. What have you been doing?"
"No, de ninguna manera, te ves distinto. Te ves mucho mejor. ¿Qué has estado haciendo?"
Philip, very calmly, answered, "I don't know. Maybe it's because I don't like arguing."
Philip, muy calmadamente, respondió, "No lo sé. Quizá es porque no me gusta discutir."
I must say I was surprised by what he said. "It can't be that. Are you going to the gym, have you taken up a
sport?..." I asked.
But he just shrugged his shoulders and replied "No it's not that."
And that was the end of the conversation. So I said goodbye and we went our separate ways.
And ever since then I always say the same thing as he said when I get asked.
