PRESENT SIMPLE VS.

PRESENT CONTINUO
El tiempo presente verbal en ingls que hemos visto hasta ahora es el presente simple. El
presente simple no se utiliza exactamente como en espaol.

EL PRESENTE SIMPLE
El presente simple se usa para indicar acciones que son habituales o acciones que ocurren
pero no necesariamente en el momento en que se habla. Por ejemplo:
I go shopping with my friends Voy de compras con mis amigos (Esto significa que voy
con ellos regularmente o de vez en cuando; no necesariamente ahora mismo)
He reads to the children l lee a los nios
She stops in front of the school Ella para en frente de la escuela

EL PRESENTE CONTINUO
El presente continuo es un tiempo verbal que indica una accin que est ocurriendo en el
momento en que se habla. Es bastante parecido a, por ejemplo, comiendo, caminando,
diciendo, etc. En el ingls coloquial significa tambin algo que va a ocurrir muy pronto.
Veamos ahora unos ejemplos:
I am studying for my exam Estoy estudiando para mi examen
I am cleaning the house Estoy limpiando la casa
Robert is driving to the supermarket Robert est manejando al supermercado
The mechanic is fixing our car El mecnico est arreglando nuestro carro

PRESENTE CONTINUO CUANDO SE HACEN PREGUNTAS

Where are you going? Dnde van ustedes?
We are going to the office Vamos a la oficina
What are they doing tomorrow night? Qu hacen ellos maana por la noche?
They are going to the party Ellos van a la fiesta
Why are they working today? Por que estn trabajando hoy?

They are finishing what they couldnt finish yesterday Estn terminando lo que no
pudieron terminar ayer.
What are you doing right now? Qu ests haciendo ahora mismo?

DIFERENCIA ENTRE EL PRESENTE SIMPLE Y EL PRESENTE CONTINUO

Note la diferencia entre el presente simple y el presente continuo en ingls. Hablantes de
espaol a menudo se confunden entre estos dos tiempos verbales.
1. Presente simple:
- I take my mother to the hospital Llevo mi mam al hospital (La llevo cuando se require,
podra ser de vez en cuando, semanalmente, mensualmente, de vez en cuando, etc, pero no
necesariamente ahora mismo)
- I love having dinner with you. - Me encanta cenar contigo (habitualmente).
- James studies German at university. - James estudia alemn en la universidad.
- My parents live in the south - Mis padres viven en el sur
- Jane works in Italy every summer. - Jane trabaja en Italia cada verano.
- My friends have a car. - Mis amigos tienen un coche
- Water boils at 100 Celsius degrees. - El agua hierve a 100 grados Celsius
- Sharks are dangerous animals. - Los tiburones son animales peligrosos.
2. Presente continuo:
- I am taking my mother to the hospital Estoy llevando mi mama al hospital (Lo hago en
este momento o enseguida)
- I am loving having dinner with you. - Me est encantando cenar contigo (hoy).
- Mary is playing the guitar now. - Mary est tocando la guitarra ahora.
- Take an umbrella. Its raining. - toma un paraguas. Est lloviendo
- Lets go to the park! The sun is shinning. - Vamos al parque! El sol esta brillando.
- They are working in the garage at the moment. - Estn trabajando en el garaje en este
momento
