Every worker has or must develop an ethics in the job that defines the loyalty
that he owes to his work, profession, company and fellow workers. Villarini
(1994) describes that "the ethics of a profession is a set of norms, in terms of
which we define good practice or professional relations as good or bad." The
good here refers to the profession as a community aimed at achieving A certain
purpose: the provision of a service ".
In addition, there are three types of conditions or professional ethical
imperatives:
(1) competence - requires the person to have the knowledge, skills and
attitudes to provide a service
(2) customer service - professional activity is only good in the moral sense if it is
put at the customer's service
(3) solidarity - the relationships of respect and collaboration that are established
among its members.
To achieve in employees a well-developed professional ethical conscience is
that codes of ethics are established. In these, organizational values are
concentrated, on the basis of which all workers must orient their behavior, and
establish rules or guidelines to enforce the duties of their profession.
There are three general factors that influence the individual when making
ethical or unethical decisions (Ferrell, 87-96), which are:
1. Individual Values - The attitude, experiences and knowledge of the individual
and the culture in which they are will help you to determine what is right or
wrong of an action.
2. Behavior and Other Values - Good or bad influences from important
individuals in the individual's life, such as parents, friends, peers, teachers,
supervisors, political and religious leaders, will direct their behavior in making a
decision.
3. Official code of ethics - This code addresses the employee's ethical behavior,
while without it he could make unethical decisions.
