Objetivos+del+curso:!
Trevor!Pinch!y!Karin!Bijsterveld!han!definido!el!campo!emergente!de!los!estudios!
de!sonido!(Sound!Studies)!como!"un!rea!interdisciplinaria!que!estudia!la!
produccin!y!el!consumo!material!de!msica,!sonido,!ruido!y!silencio,!y!cmo!estas!
actividades!han!cambiado!a!lo!largo!de!la!historia!en!diferentes!sociedades".!Este!
campo!se!nutre!de!reas!como!la!ecologa!acstica,!el!diseo!de!sonido!y!paisajes!
sonoros,!la!antropologa!de!los!sentidos,!la!historia!de!la!vida!cotidiana,!la!historia!
del!medio!ambiente,!la!geografa!cultural,!los!estudios!de!urbanidad!y!cultura!
auditiva,!y!la!musicologa,!etnomusicologa!y!fonomusicologa!para!re)pensar!ideas!
sobre!la!naturaleza!del!sonido,!la!escucha!y!la!influencia!de!su!poder!emocional!en!la!
vida!y!el!pensamiento!modernos.!El!foco!de!los!estudios!de!sonido!es!en!la!
experiencia!sonora!como!eje!central!para!dar!sentido!y!performar!el!mundo!que!nos!
rodea;!en!otras!palabras,!el!objetivo!de!este!nuevo!campo!es!el!estudio!del!sonido!
como!experiencia!epistemolgica.!!

Esta!clase!explora!la!interseccin!entre!una!gran!variedad!de!historias,!arqueologas,!
economas,!etnografas!y!experiencias!ldicas!del!sonido!y!la!escucha!con!el!fin!de!
extraer,!intuir,!pensar!y!fantasear!la!cultura!sonora!a!partir!de!esta!diversidad!de!
fuentes,!documentos!y!experiencias.!

Requisitos:!
Con!algunas!excepciones!en!las!que!se!realizarn!actividades!especficas!fuera!de!
aula,!las!sesiones!del!curso!se!dedicarn!a!discutir!y!evaluar!crticamente!las!
lecturas!asignadas.!Se!espera!que!los!alumnos!participen!activamente!en!estas!
discusiones,!manifestando!sus!propios!intereses!y!experiencias!en!relacin!con!los!
textos!estudiados.!Dependiendo!del!nmero!de!inscritos,!los!alumnos!harn!la!
presentacin!de!un!proyecto!individual!o!colectivo,!ya!sea!de!tipo!creativo,!de!
investigacin!o!de!activismo!artstico!basado!en!la!aplicacin!de!las!ideas!discutidas!
durante!el!seminario.!Los!alumnos!tendrn!hasta!el!30!de!abril!del!2013!para!
entregar!su!trabajos!finales!o!los!registros!y!documentos!de!sus!proyectos!finales.!
