Carnaval de barranquilla

El carnaval de barranquilla el ms importante del pas y es muy popular alrededor del

mundo. Se trata de una fiesta muy alegre en el que se renen las manifestaciones
culturales de la regin caribe, como las artesanas, los disfraces, la msica, los bailes y
muchas otras culturas populares. En el carnaval de Barranquilla se pueden disfrutar los
aires ms alegres del folclor costeo, como la cumbia, la puya, el jalao, el chand, el porro,
el bullerengue, el pajarito, el mapal, el merecumb, la guaracha, el vallenato, ritmos
provenientes de frica y de la cuenca del mar Caribe, como la salsa y el merengue. La
cumbia es el principal ritmo del Carnaval, especialmente en los desfiles como la Batalla de
Flores y la Gran Parada. Adems de la cumbia, se destaca el mapal, ritmo que se basa en
los movimientos de un pescado y donde la mujer y el hombre se mueven contrayendo el
abdomen.
El carnaval de barranquilla tiene races europeas, africanas e indgenas; y aunque no se ha
precisado la fecha del primer carnaval realizado en la ciudad, su tradicin se remonta a
fechas en nuestro proceso de mestizaje cultural. El carnaval no tiene una fecha
determinada, porque este depende del calendario litrgico de la iglesia catlica. Existe un
pre-carnaval, que comienza el 20 de enero, consiste en un calentamiento del cuerpo y
espritu que dura aproximadamente tres semanas antes de iniciarse el carnaval central.
A travs de los aos se han destacado los siguientes acontecimientos: el cargo del
presidente del carnaval en 1899, la celebracin de la primera batalla de flores en 1903, la
eleccin de la primera reina del carnaval en 1918, la primera guacherna realizada por la
iniciativa de la compositora barranquillera Estercita forero en 1974. La guacherna se
celebra un viernes de la semana anterior al comienzo oficial del carnaval, preparando as a
todo el pueblo barranquillero a esta gran fiesta.
Este carnaval tiene sus reyes; tiene un rey, llamado rey momo, que desde la eleccin del
primer rey en 1888 con su alegra y vestimenta caracterstica llena a todas las personas de
felicidad. As mismo existe la reina del carnaval que, al igual que el rey momo, se escoge
una persona diferente por cada ao entre toda barranquilla. Las celebraciones en el
carnaval comienzan con la lectura del bando por la reina del carnaval, quien por parte del
alcalde recibe las llaves de la ciudad convirtindose en la mxima autoridad de esta fiesta,
y as pronto anunciar el comienzo oficial del carnaval durante 4 das.
Todos los aos el carnaval de barranquilla sigue un orden segn los das; el primer da,
sbado de carnaval, se lleva a cabo la batalla de flores. En este evento es muy comn ver
muchas carrozas desfilando para todo el pblico presente, las cuales lideradas por la
carroza de la reina transitan por toda la Va 40, llevando consigo la alegra y pasin
caracterstica de nuestro patrimonio cultural donde se recuerda el legado de un pasado
que recobra vida en esta fiesta y envuelve a todas las personas en un mar de expresiones
musicales, teatrales y danzadas por todo este desfile.
En la batalla de flores usualmente se ve desfilar a la reina del carnaval junto a la
majestuosa cumbia, la danza del congo, la danza del garabato, el mapal, los diablos
arlequines, las farotas, las comparsas de tradicin y fantasa con sus marimondas y
monocucos tpicos en nuestro patrimonio.
En el segundo da, domingo de carnaval, se celebra la gran parada; aqu cumbias, paloteos,
coyongos, gallinazos, farotas, garabatos, disfraces, mapal, y toda la pluralidad cultural
que abarca el carnaval, desfilan delante todo el pblico con su movimiento, su gracia y
dinamismo, dejando atrs la nostalgia de un pasado y realzando el jbilo de una ciudad
con su fiesta patrimonial.
Todo lo anterior ha contribuido a que el carnaval de barranquilla fuera considerado como
obra maestra del patrimonio oral e intangible de la humanidad por parte de la UNESCO;
hoy contina con la responsabilidad de dar a conocer a las nuevas generaciones el valor
de la cultura y de su folclor.
En el tercer da, Lunes de carnaval, se celebra la gran parada de fantasa; las comparsas de
fantasa desfilan con el brillo y la elegancia caracterstica, se mueven llenos de fuerza y
alegra mostrando ante el pblico sus magnficos vestidos representando el nombre de la
agrupacin a la que pertenecen, es comn que se presenten agrupaciones como: los
Ekobios, Rumbn normalista, dakan, takunt, entre otra ms que impresionan a todos
con su belleza.
En el cuarto da, martes de carnaval, se celebra la muerte de Joselito; en medio de llantos,
gritos de viudas alegras, hombres vestidos jocosamente de mujer y el sollozo de la reina
del carnaval, los carnavaleros buscan ahuyentar la llegada del final de estos cuatro das de
goce, donde el protagonista de la fiesta, Joselito carnaval, muere para cumplir con la ley
del eterno retorno, y volver a nacer en un nuevo carnaval. El final del carnaval de
barranquilla da paso a la cuaresma, con el mircoles de ceniza.
En el carnaval de barranquilla tambin existe el festival de orquestas, que desde 1969 se
ha convertido en una importante oportunidad para los artistas nacionales y extranjeros a
dar a conocer sus aptitudes en la msica; en este evento es comn premiar a los
ganadores con el Congo de oro. En el ltimo carnaval, fue declarado oficialmente Joe
arroyo como rey absoluto del carnaval de barranquilla, debido a toda su vida musical y lo
trascendental que fue su vida.
Momocucos, maria trapitos, marimondas, y garabatos esperan con mucho afn estos
cuatro das para celebrar con mucha emocin este importante evento como en ninguna
otra parte del mundo.
Nuestra opinin acerca del carnaval de barranquilla es que, en cuanto a diversin, es la
fiesta ms divertida que hay a lo largo del todo el ao en el pas. Es muy emocionante
observar todos los protagonistas de carnaval bailando y desfilando con mucha alegra,
participar de la batalla de flores como cualquier otro desfile es una dicha porque
inevitablemente nos llena de una inmensa alegra por ser patrimonio cultural. Tambin
pensamos que esta es una poca muy peligrosa, porque existe mucha gente mala
tratando de daar la fiesta, por eso debemos cuidarnos mucho en estos das. En
conclusin es una fiesta muy interesante y no solo para los barranquilleros sino para
muchas personas alrededor del mundo No se pierda el prximo carnaval de barranquilla,
porque como dicen popularmente, quien lo vive es quien lo goza.
