FOAMINP3
FoamConcentrate

Protein foam concentrate at 3% for Hydrocarbons Fires

Product description
FOAMIN P3 Protein Foam Concentrate is formulated from hydrolyzed protein, foam stabilizers (metal salts), bactericide, corrosion inhibitors, freezing point depressants and solvents. It is transported and stored as a concentrate to provide ease of use and considerable savings in weight and space. It is intended for use as a 3% proportioned solution either in fresh, salt or hard water. The correct proportioning ratio is 3 parts of concentrate to 97 parts of water. Two fire extinguishing mechanisms are in effect when using FOAMIN P3. First, a foam blanket is formed which works to prevent the release of fuel vapor. Second, the water content of the foam provides a cooling effect.

Application
FOAMIN P3 Protein Foam Concentrate is intended for use on Class B hydrocarbon fuels having low water solubility such as various crude oils, gasolines, diesel fuels, aviation fuels, etc. It is not suitable for use on fuels having appreciable water solubility (polar solvents), i.e., methyl and ethyl alcohol, acetone and methyl ethyl ketone. This concentrate can be used only with air aspirating type discharge devices. It can also be used with foam compatible dry chemical extinguishing agents without regard to the order of application, to provide even greater fire protection capability. FOAMIN P3 can be used by most conventional foam equipment such as: Balance pressure pump proportioning equipment Bladder tank and related proportioners Aroundthepump proportioners Fixed and portable Inline venturi type inductor Fixed or handline nozzles or Monitors with fixed induc tion/pick up tubes

Performances
FOAMIN P3 is measured against specifications and standards such as Underwriters Laboratories Standard UL 162, latest edition. When used with fresh or salt water or water of any hardness at the correct dilution and with most conventional foam making equipment, the expansion ratio will vary depending on the performance characteristics of the equipment. Air aspirating discharge devices produce expansion ratios from 8 to 1 to 12 to 1 depending primarily on type and flow rate. In general, the higher the flow rate the higher the expansion ratio. Thus, monitors and foam chambers normally produce higher expansion ratios than foam water sprinkler heads and hand held type nozzles. Typical expansion ratios for foam chambers are in the range of 5 to 1 to 7 to 1, and for foam water sprinkler heads intherange of 3to 1 to6to1.

Storage and shelf life

FOAMIN P3 Protein foam has an operational temperature range of 10C and +60C. Limited exposure to temperatures above +60C does not affect the firefighting performance. When stored in the packaging supplied (polyethylene drums or pails) within the temperature limits specified, or in equipment recommended by the manufacturer as part of the foam system, the shelf life of FOAMIN P3 Protein Foam Concentrate is generally in excess of 10 years. If the product is frozen during storage or transportation, thawing will render the product completely usable. The factors affecting shelf life and stability for FOAMIN Protein Agents are discussed in detail in our Technical Bulletin for storage recommendation.

HYDREX3
FoamConcentrate

First class film forming fluoroprotein foam concentrate for 3% Application on Hydrocarbons fires
Product description
HYDREX 3 is a film forming fluoroprotein foam concentrate (FFFP) based on hydrolyzed protein, fluorosurfactants blending, stabilizer salts and glycol ethers for use at 3% induction ratio. An intense research work including many laboratory and full scale fire tests routed to the outstanding sealing and extinguishing performance of HYDREX 3. Compare to other protein based foams HYDREX 3 produces an extremely fast spreading aqueous film, that acts as a vapor suppressor as well as a lubricant helping the foam blanket to rapidly cover all surfaces. The remarkable stability of the protein foam provides a long resistance to reignition. The result is a very effective agent with an outstanding performance in extinguishment and securing a fire scenario.

Application
HYDREX 3 is intended for use on Class B hydrocarbon fuels being classified as non water miscible (so called non polar fuels) such as various crude oils, gasoline, diesel fuels, aviation fuels and hydrocarbons with low water solubility such as MTBE or Biofuels with a maximum content of 15% ethanol. HYDREX 3 is ideal for fast extinguishing of spills, Airport emergency response, Efficient Oil tank storage protection, fixed spray protection systems The foam produced by HYDREX 3 can be used either with air aspirating or non aspirating type discharge devices. Sea water can be used without an increase in the application rate. A common application with (foam compatible) Dry chemical powders to achieve a maximum fire performance is possible. HYDREX 3 can be used by most conventional foam equipment such as: Balance pressure pump proportioning equipment Bladder tank and related proportioners Fixed and portable Inline venturi type inductor Fixed or handline nozzles or Monitors with fixed induction/pick up tubes

Performances
HYDREX 3 is measured against the highest specifications and standards such as EN 1568 part 3. On spills or large hydrocarbon fires, the foam immediately forms an aqueous film on the surface of the fuel. The spreading film covers the fuel to extinguish the fire and prevents hydrocarbon evaporation. This leads to a superior burn back resistance. The tough structure of the protein based foam enhances its stability on the fuel. The foam has a much higher fuel tolerance than other regular fluoroprotein foams. In case of injuries of the foam blanket it shows very good healing capabilities closing any defect very quickly. Additionally it provides a cooling function on the fuel by enclosed water and makes the water float on fuel surfaces in spite of its usually higher density.

PLUREXC5
FoamConcentrate

Multi purpose High Expansion foam concentrate to be proportioned from 3 to 4%

Description
PLUREX C5 is a synthetic multipurpose foam concentrate based upon fatty alcohols, alkyl sulphates and butyl carbitol. Many fire tests during test programs have shown that it forms a stable foam blanket on burning non polar solvents. It also forms a stable low, medium and high expansion foam which rapidly fills large spaces. PLUREX C5 foam Concentrate can be used to produce foam with expansion ratios ranging from 50:1 to 1000:1 depending upon the type of generator and its operating pressure. When used with High Expansion or Medium Expansion Generators, recommended proportioning is between 3% and 6% (at 3% = 3 liter of PLUREX C5 with 97 liter water).

Application
PLUREX C5 is a multi purpose firefighting agent, used in fighting Class A and Class B both indoors and outdoors. It is used only with air aspirating foam discharge devices except when used as a wetting agent on Class A fuels. When used with high expansion generators, PLUREX C5 is capable of totally flooding large rooms and enclosures allowing it to effectively extinguish horizontal and vertical (threedimensional) fires. High expansion foam is also effective in reducing vapor concentrations down wind from hazardous low boiling point gaseous products such as ammonia spills. When used with medium expansion foam equipment, PLUREX C5 forms a foam blanket which prevents the release of fuel vapor and also provides additional cooling due to the higher water content. Medium expansion foam has benefits in outdoor applications because the foam is less affected by wind conditions.

Performance
The performance of PLUREX C5 foam concentrate when used at High Expansion will vary depending upon the performance characteristics of the equipment. Expansion ratios through high expansion generators typically are between 200:1 and 1000:1. For this reason, it is important for the proper design of a high expansion system that the PLUREX C5 foam Concentrate be specifically tested with the foam generators. Medium expansion foam generators typically deliver expansion ratios between 50:1 and 200:1. PLUREX C5 can be used by most conventional foam equipment such as: Balance pressure pump proportioning equipment Bladder tank and related proportioners Aroundthepump proportioners Fixed and portable Inline venturi type inductors Fixed or handline nozzles with fixed induction/ pick up tubes

PLUREX15N
FoamConcentrate

Description
PLUREX 15N is a low, medium, and high expansion, Class A foam concentrate formulated from specialty hydrocarbon surfactants, stabilizers, corrosion inhibitors and solvents. This formulation provides extremely good cold weather performance. PLUREX 15N has been proven for decades to be effective on many deep seated Class A fires such as tire fires, paper fires, coal fires, structure fires, and wild fires. PLUREX 15N foam concentrate can be proportioned from 0.1% to 1.0% in fresh, brackish or sea water. Due to its extremely low proportioning rate, PLUREX 15N foam concentrate offers outstanding economy in: concentrate storage space, cost (compared to conventional 3% and 6% foaming agents) and water hauling requirement.
Example: How much PLUREX 15N concentrate is required to make 500 Liter of foam solution? At 0.1% concentration: 500 L X 0.001 = 0.5 L of concentrate At 0.6% concentration: 500 L X 0.006 = 3 L of concentrate At 1.0% concentration: 500 L X 0.01 = 5 L of concentrate

PLUREX 15N solution creates a dense foam blanket with excellent insulating properties. PLUREX 15N foam clings to vertical surfaces for structure protection. The wetting and penetrating characteristics of the PLUREX 15N solution reduce the combustibility of Class A fuels and makes water 5 times more effective. Applicable extinguishment mechanisms and some properties of PLUREX 15N foam depend on the type of foam delivery device used. The solution does not destroy or retard new forest growth, will not harm fish or wildlife, is biodegradable in soils, aquatic ecosystems, and sewage treatment facilities and has no EPA reportable contents. Application PLUREX 15N concentrate is designed specifically for use on Class A fuel fires including wood, paper, coal and rubber. PLUREX 15N foam gives the fire fighter: extinguishment capabilities, exposure protection, and increased safety. Although designed for Class A fires, PLUREX 15N foam can be effective on some Class B flammable liquid fires when applied from medium and high expansion devices. PLUREX 15N solution can be used with aspirating and nonaspirating discharge devices, compressed air foam systems (CAFS) or dropped from fixed or rotary wing aircraft.

Performance
Fire extinguishment mechanisms in effect when using PLUREX 15N Class A Fire Control Concentrate include: Reduction of the surface tension of water, which provides the PLUREX 15N solution with superior wetting and penetrating characteristics. This renders Class A fuels less combustible and allows the solution to penetrate past the char to control deep seated fires. Extended drain time provides longer surface wetting, reducing the risk of ignition/reignition. PLUREX 15N agent creates a foam blanket which provides an insulating barrier between the fuel and air. PLUREX 15N foam suppresses combustible vapors while cooling the fuel. In addition, PLUREX 15N concentrate offers fire fighting protection characteristics: The brilliant white foam reflects heat.

PLUREX NK
High Stability

Synthetic Foam Compound

Low, Medium, High Expansion
PLUREX-NK is a fire fighting foam concentrate obtained by the formulation of synthetic surfactants and high-stability foaming agents that, used with any type of foaming equipment, can generate foams with expansion from 5 to 1000. PLUREX NK, compared to the standard synthetic high expansion foams, provides an even higher foam resistance to drainage and destruction caused by the contact with some particularly damaging pollutants. PLUREX NK characteristics, to some extent in common with standard PLUREX N, make it a greatly effective and versatile foam concentrate even in drastic applications: exceptional foaming power even when using cold and sea water. Water at 0C and hard water can be used without spoiling the foam efficacy. Very stable foams at low, medium and high expansion are obtained even with very poor generators such as sprinklers, sprayers, monitors, etc.; extremely fast extinction on any type of fire, as the high surface activity of PLUREX-NK provides a strong wetting and cooling action and generates foams having even a greater heat resistance and plasticity; the foam does not suffer contamination by pollutants (hydrocarbons, fats, paints, etc.), that could accidentally come in contact in the firefighting systems, water or burning materials. The resistance of PLUREX NK can be tested according to M.D.A. (a foam sample should be poured over a layer of fuel polluted by sodium stearate inside an oscillating tray). This test shows the typical destroying effect of tracks left by aircrafts tyres after landing;

ANY PROPORTIONING RATE EXCEPTIONAL FOAMING POWER HIGH FOAM STABILITY EMERGENCY LANDINGS BLANKETING SUITABLE FOR UNLEADED GASOLINES
great extinguishing power even on light hydrocarbons and gasolines containing antiknock agents such as TBA or MTBE that, due to their foams destroying action, make the extinction particularly difficult when using conventional synthetic or standard protein foam concentrates; The drainage resistance of PLUREX NK is more than double than any standard synthetic foaming liquid. This makes it particularly suitable even for flooding spills of volatile and aggressive chemicals (LPG, carbon sulphide, NH3 anhydrous, etc.). APPROVALS AFNOR (French Standard) SHELF LIFE A minimum shelf life of 5 years can be expected if properly stored in its original containers. DISPOSAL Through any ordinary Waste Water Treatment plant. SABO foam

"PLUREX-SG" PROTECTION OF PROCESS AND STORAGE AREAS BY SPECIAL SYNTHETIC HIGH EXPANSION FOAMS
Synthetic high expansion foams used for the protection of storage and process areas for LPG, LNG, Ammonia and similar products are considered of great help f or the mitigation of massive spills. High expansion foams serve a dual purpose with their application for the fire prevention on large non-burning spills and the extinction of spill fires or continuous leaking. Experimental works have confirmed that high expansion foams are highly effective for reducing the hydrocarbon evaporation. Experiences made by SABOFOAM in Italy show that the foam to be used for this purpose should have expansion ratio approximately 300:1 (this value being easily obtainable by fanless foam chambers with high stability synthetic foams, such as PLUREX-SG). For application on ammonia spills the foam must have a remarkably high drainage stability, as a slow drainage can assure a more efficient coverage for longer periods and can minimize the thermal exchange between drained water and liquefied gas, which is potentially one of the main causes for the hydrocarbon evaporation. PLUREX-SG positive action is due to a series of phenomena that can be briefly described as follows: * * foam shields flames radiation against the liquid hydrocarbon and spoils the retroaction mechanism which is the base of liquids combustion; foam is being destroyed by flames and becomes water vapour; leading to a remarkable thermal energy reduction which causes a drastic decrease of flame temperature and an even more sensible drop of radiated heat (emitted power is more or less proportional to the fourth power of absolute temperature of flame

SABO foam
gases). Generated water vapour makes the flame less smoky and reduces the thermal emission coefficient; * foam creates an effective radiation protecting barrier for structures, pipelines, valves, etc.

PLUREX-SG has an outstanding foam resistance and an extremely high stability to drainage and complies to the most severe technical specifications for synthetic high expansion foam compounds. Best performances are obtainable with PLUREX-SG used at with appliction percentage of 4%-6%.

HYDRAL1
FoamConcentrate

Premium performance Aqueous FilmForming Foam concentrate AFFF at 1% for hydrocarbon Fires

Description
HYDRAL 1 is an aqueous film forming foam concentrates (AFFF) based on fluorosurfactants, hydrocarbon tensides and glycolethers for use at 1% induction ratio. AFFF is a synthetic concentrate comprised of detergent and fluorocarbon surfactant that form a foam with the inherent ability to produce a vapor suppressing aqueous film on the surface of the hydrocarbon fuels.

Application
HYDRAL 1 is ideal for Sprinkler systems, process plants, pumping stations, Aircraft hangars, Offshore and tank protection and for nonairaspirating hand nozzles. The foam produced by HYDRAL 1 extinguishes hydrocarbon fires by either forceful of soft application. HYDRAL 1 is compatible with all foamcompatible dry chemical extinguishing powders. Sea water can be used without an increase in the application rate.

Performance
AFFF provides a rapid flame knock down on class B fires involving hydrocarbon fuels such as oil, petroleum and aviation fuels. On application, the foam spreads rapidly to form an aqueous film and foam blanket. The aqueous film suppresses the release of fuel vapors. The foam blanket effectively excludes oxygen from the fuel surface, extinguishing the fire and preventing reignition. Additionally it provides a cooling function on the fuel by enclosed water and makes the water float on fuel surfaces in spite of its usually higher density. HYDRAL 1 can be used by most conventional foam equipment such as: Balance pressure pump proportioning equipment Bladder tank and related proportioners Aroundthepump proportioners Fixed and portable Inline venturi type inductors Fixed or handline nozzles with fixed induction/ pick up tubes

Approvals
HYDRAL 1 is approved according to: EN1568 3 :2000 IMO MSC / Circular 582 (Marine) ICAO level B UK Defense Standard 42/40 GOSTR (Russia)

HYDRALT3
FoamConcentrate

Premium performance Aqueous Film Forming Foam concentrate AFFF at 3% for Hydrocarbon Fires

Description
HYDRAL T3 is a high quality aqueous film forming foam concentrates (AFFF) based on fluorosurfactants, hydrocarbon tensides and glycolethers for use at 3% concentration. AFFF is a synthetic concentrate comprised of detergent and fluorocarbon surfactant that form a foam with the inherent ability to produce a vapor suppressing aqueous film on the surface of the hydrocarbon fuels.

Application
HYDRAL T3 is ideal for Sprinkler systems, process plants, pumping stations, Aircraft hangars, tank protection and for non air aspirating hand nozzles. The foam produced by HYDRAL T3 extinguishes hydrocarbon fires by either forceful or soft application. HYDRAL T3 is compatible with all foam compatible dry chemical extinguishing powders. Sea water can be used without an increase in the application rate. Approvals HYDRAL T3 is approved according to: EN1568 latest revision 2008

HYDRAL T3 can be used by most conventional foam equipment such as: Balance pressure pump proportioning equipment Bladder tank and related proportioners Aroundthepump proportioners Fixed and portable Inline venturi type inductors Fixed or handline nozzles with fixed induction/ pick up tubes

HYDRALAR36(IMO)
FoamConcentrate

Alcohol resistant / Aqueous film forming ARAFFF 3x6 general purpose foam concentrate for hydrocarbons at 3% and polar solvent fires at 6%

Product description
HYDRAL AR 36 is a high quality synthetic foam concentrate based on surfactant, fluorosurfactant, polymer and fluoropolymer. The foam forms a film of water on hydrocarbons and in addition a polymer film on polar solvents. HYDRAL AR 36 , alcohol resistant and aqueous film forming foam (AFFF) concentrate, is ideally suitable for extinguishing fires involving polar and/or foam destroying liquids such as alcohols, esters, ketones, amines and also hydrocarbon fires involving petrol, fuel or oil.

Application
HYDRAL AR 36 is used wherever it is essential to extinguish a fire rapidly to save human lives and to avoid high material losses. Examples for its use are Chemical vessels, Jetties, tank farms, ships, drilling rigs and any flammable liquid storage installations. HYDRAL AR 36 is also very effective when subsurface injection is used to fight tank fires. Due to its fluorinated surfactants content the foam absorbs only small quantities of hydrocarbons. HYDRAL AR 36 is compatible with all foam compatible dry chemical extinguishing powders. Sea water can be used without an increase in the application rate.

Performances
For fires involving foam destroying liquids we recommend a proportioning rate of 6% (v/v) of HYDRAL AR 36 and a gentle indirect application of the foam, for example using foam deflectors so that the polymer film can become fully effective. HYDRAL AR 36 is especially suitable to extinguish rapidly large surface hydrocarbon fires; the foam has excellent flow properties at a proportioning rate of 3% (v/v) and can be applied direct to the fire surface. HYDRAL AR 36 can be used by most conventional foam equipment such as: tubes Balance pressure pump proportioning equipment Bladder tank and related proportioners Aroundthepump proportioners Fixed and portable Inline venturi type inductor Fixed or handline nozzles with fixed induction/pick up

Approvals
HYDRAL AR 36 is approved or listed according to: IMO Msc / Circ. 582 & 799 by Lloyds IMO Msc / Circ. 582 & 799 by R.I.N.A. IMO Msc / Circ. 582 & 799 by BV UK Defense Standard 42/40 & 42/41 UNI 9493 (Italian Ministry of Interior)

Materials of Constructions Compatibility

Tests have been performed with HYDRAL Concentrate verifying its compatibility with standard carbon steel black pipe and pipe manufactured from various stainless steel or brass compounds. Alternative pipe, fittings, and valves may be used in some cases if acceptable to the customer and/or the authority having jurisdiction. Refer to our Technical Bulletin, addressing acceptable materials of construction for use with HYDRAL foam concentrates. Galvanized pipe and fittings must not be used in areas where undiluted concentrate will contact them since corrosion will result. Please first consult SABO Espaola for specific guidelines concerning materials of construction.

HYDRALAR36(EN)
FoamConcentrate

High performance Alcohol resistant / Aqueous film forming general purpose foam concentrate for hydrocarbons at 3% and polar solvent fires at 6%
Product description
HYDRAL AR 36 is a high quality synthetic foam concentrate based on surfactant, fluorosurfactant, polymer and fluoropolymer. The foam forms a film of water on hydrocarbons and in addition a polymer film on polar solvents. HYDRAL AR 36 , alcohol resistant and aqueous film forming foam (AFFF) concentrate, is ideally suitable for extinguishing fires involving polar and/or foamdestroying liquids such as alcohols, esters, ketones, amines and also hydrocarbon fires involving petrol, fuel or oil.

Application
HYDRAL AR 36 is used wherever it is essential to extinguish a fire rapidly to save human lives and to avoid high material losses. Examples for its use are Chemical plants, refineries, tank farms, ships, drilling rigs and any flammable liquid storage installations. HYDRAL AR 36 is also very effective when subsurface injection is used to fight tank fires. Due to its fluorinated surfactants content the foam absorbs only small quantities of hydrocarbons. HYDRAL AR 36 is compatible with all foamcompatible dry chemical extinguishing powders. Sea water can be used without an increase in the application rate.

Performances
For fires involving foamdestroying liquids we recommend a proportioning rate of 6% (v/v) of HYDRAL AR 36 and a gentle indirect application of the foam, for example using foam deflectors so that the polymer film can become fully effective.

Approvals
HYDRAL AR 36 is approved according to: EN1568 part 1 EN1568 part 3 EN1568 part 4

Storage and shelf life

HYDRAL AR 36 has an operational temperature range of 10C and +60C. Limited exposure to temperatures above +60C does not affect the firefighting performance. When stored in the packaging supplied (polyethylene drums or cans) or in equipment recommended by the manufacturer as part of the foam system and within the temperature limits specified, the shelf life of HYDRAL AR 36 Concentrate is about 2025 years. The factors affecting shelf life and stability for HYDRAL ARAFFF Agents are discussed in detail in our Technical Bulletin for storage recommendation. If the product is frozen during storage or transportation, the concentrate should be thawed and used without any degeneration of the performance.

Quality insurance
HYDRAL AR 36 as with all SABO Espaola Products is subject to a very stringent quality controls throughout all stages of production, from incoming raw to the complete product and is manufactured in an ISO 9001:2000 controlled facility. Quality assurance is therefore guaranteed.
