Dear Family Member:


This week our class will
be focusing on how the
Earths forces affect us.
We will be talking about
forces that we can
observe.
Here are some activities
that you can do with
your child to help
reinforce the skills well
be practicing.

Words to Know: similes You will make up a sentence using one


of the words on the list. Then your child will make up a different
sentence using the same word. Continue until all the list words have
been used.
Spelling/Phonics: long a You will make a chart of the various
spelling combinations that make the long a sound. Your child will
write each spelling word in the column that matches how the vowel
sound is spelled. This weeks words contain the phonic sound of
long a, spelled ai, ay, ea, eigh, and ey.

Comprehension: authors purpose (see page 55)


Your child will look at illustrations of book titles and circle the sentence
that tells why the author wrote the book.

the top of each column are letters that show one of
