IN EUROPE: IN AMERICAS:
Strider Link Series, developed to cover these issues. Levels of quality, also
found in high cost traditional marks devices, now it is overcome by the Strider
Link from Sinteck. A perfect transmission, without noises and good quality is
possible now thanks the Strider Link.
The system has an adjustable transmitter of 10W, which the client can adjust
the RF output power from 0 up to 10W. Forwarded and reflected power,
voltage in the final RF stage, total current, contrast adjustment, channel
change and other parameters are shown on the LCD panel. The transmitter
has XLR inputs (Left, Right and Mono) 1 MPX input (with multi-turn trimmer
for adjust), 1 SCA input (with multi-turn trimmer for adjust) and a 19kHz
output for RDS coders.
The incredible RF covering of the Strider Link (85km) is possible due to the fact
the receiver has 2 cavity filters with LNA amplifier of high gain and low noise.
High selectivity and high sensibility is now gotten by employing monernal RF
components.
The receiver LCD display show RF input visualization, digital RF output level
adjustment and many other parameters can be visualized and configured. In
the receiver there is a stereo demodulator and L&R output and a MPX (BNC)
output. The system can be used as link unit to studio/transmitter (STL) and
also as mobile unit of external reportage (DC 12V battery operation) The
frequency changing and other setups are made through the keys located on
the front panel, being this very simple and very quick. Such as the transmitter
as the receiver are mounted in a cabinet of 19” in 1RU (44,45mm) with 125mm
deep. We introduce an equipment with very small size and great technology.
1.1 INTRODUCTION
The Strider Link Series RPU&STL, Reportage Link System, Studio Transmitter Link and
Auxiliary Link System is a simple system designed to convey FM program material from a
studio site to a transmitter site like STL use. Also, it can be used like Reportage link when
exists the need to transmit parties, games, events and too many others applications. The
Strider Link Series also simultaneously conveys control and secondary programming
subcarriers through MPX inputs. This equipment may also be used to provide high-quality
program transmission in intercity relay service.
The Strider RPU Link Series is a family of equiment that can operate in several bands
from 130MHz through 500MHz. Strider STL Professional Link Series can operate up to
2,5GHz. This operate manual covers the STL Series, from 500-2500MHz bands, in
special the bands 937,5 to 940,0MHz and 942,0 to 960,0MHz.
The Strider Link system can be configured through cards that can be introduced by the
customer or even configured of it already manufactures internally with these cards. The
customer can choose in working with the basic system without additional card and
according to need the cards can be supplied.
The Strider Transmitter Link can work with a Stereo Generator Card to transmit programs
in Stereo operation. This card is very easy to install when the Strider Link package is
bought without any card.
Also, the second option is the Audio Processor Card, the user can choose to work with this
card and the Stereo Generator Card, the transmittion will have excellent audio quality with
these two cards.
Main Features:
In all of versions there is a LCD Display. RF, audio level, channel and other parameters are
shown on this LCD display. This display offers a very easy method of transmitter
parameter monitoring and a new level of easy for setup and installation, with metering
accuracy normally only found on expensive test equipment.
The FM modulator section in the Strider transmitters employs a fast PLL system and an
excellent VCO for extremely low audio distortion and high stereo performance.
A built in audio modulator provides crystal clear stereo sound and combined with the
internal compressor/limiter a fully compliant “plug and play” all in one link system on the
Strider Multiplexx with cards.
For future compatibility all settings are switchable with on board jumpers. The stereo
and/or limiter settings can be switched in and out to suit the requirements of any external
broadcast equipment you may have now and in the future (in the Strider Multiplexx - all
cards installed)
The lightweight universal mains input design ensures a high reliability efficient design
compatabile with any mains system in the world.

STRIDER RECEIVER
The Strider Transmitter Link is a high fidelity broadband FM transmitter with a power output
of 10 Watts. It is capable of transmitting the program signal and two multiplex subcarriers
with little degradation of signal quality over one link. The linearity and FM noise
characteristics of the direct FM oscillator are exceptional. The transmitter is modular in
construction and operation, and the system description given below follows the signal flow
through the varios modules and its cards.
The system assembly drawings are located in Section “Schematics” along with the
module schematics and system schematics are at the end of this manual.
The baseband signal from the audio inputs modulates the frequency modulated oscillator
(FMOSC) in the VCO Block. The FMOSC consists of a 800-1000MHz ultralinear, very low
noise VCO which is phase locked to a crystal-controlled reference oscillator. The phase lock
loop contains the frequency programming mode which allow the synthesizer to be changed
in frequency steps of 25kHz (standard) 50kHz or 100kHz in some models. The RF signal will
deviate +-75kHz (composite) or +-50kHz (mono) from the carrier. The output power of the
VCO is approximatelly 5 milliwatt.
RF 50mW amplifier
In to the VCO block, there is a smaller RF amplifier section, that amplifiers 5mW from the
VCO output to 50mW through of 2 transistors.
RF 10W amplifier
Transmitter Control
The Transmitter Control section of the audio and power supply board has several functions.
One of these is to sense the PLL LOCK detect signal from the RF module. If this module
goes out of lock, then the radiate control logic circuit provides a signal to the power supply to
turn off the +12 VDC supply to the RF power module, causing the transmitter to stop
radiating. Also, this section detects if the VSWR level is more than permised, so the
transmitter control turn off the DC level to the RF power module. All of these parameters can
be view through the LCD on the front panel.
The Metering and Status circuitry on the audio, Power Supply and RF sections conditions
the various system parameter samples for accurate meter indications, and drives the status
LEDs on the front panel.
The Power Supply board located out of the main PC board of the Strider Transmitter Link
converts any of AC voltages (full-range 85 up to 265VAC) into the 15V regulated and filtered
voltage.
In the main PC board of the Strider Transmitter Link, exist others four DC regulators that
supplies the voltages required for the operation of the transmitter. The outputs are: +10V, -
10V and +5V for the most of the system electronics. A high current +12V supplies the RF
power module. +5V supplies only the metering section.
The Strider Transmitter Link can be configurated for DC operation too. There is In the rear
panel a connector to connecting a +12V battery. Internally the transmitter has a switching
power supplies to provide the system voltages. The RF power module is supplied of +12V
through an auxilliary switching power supply that sure maximum power until the battery
presents low charge. This external battery can present 10,8V at minimum and 14V at
maximum voltages.
Optional, the user can obtain cards for simple connection to the Strider Transmitter Link, the
first card is an audio processor dual-band, that processes independently low and high
frequencies, always maintaining high the dynamics of the transmission. This processor can
be enabled or disabled in the front panel. The audio processed is limited and it won't
produce over-modulation in the transmitter, in addition the sound quality will be exceptional.
The Stereo Generator Card consists in an AMDSB/SC stereo generator of excellent audio
separation. Also, the user can choose if the transmittion will be in stereo or mono. The
parameters of this card can be viewed on the LCD of the equipment.
The digital 15kHz filter card is indicated for who needs to transmit programming that the
audio frequency does’t pass of 15kHz. Is most important to place this card when is installed
the stereo generator card, because the high frequencies is not important to transmit in this
case.
The system assembly drawings are located in section “schematics” along with the module
schematics and assembly drawings. The system block diagrams and system schematics
are at the end of this manual.
The Preselector/Preamplifier is located out of the main PC board of the receiver. The antenna input
signal is first passed through the preselector filter section, which is a three-element helical
bandpass filter with a 25MHz bandwidth with very low insertion loss (3dB typical). The output of this
preselector filter is fed to the preamplifier providing low-noise gain. The postselector filter provides
further filtering as well as image noise rejection.
A second filter located on the preselector filter consists in other RF filter and amplifier presenting
high gain and low distortion.
Preamplifier
The output of the Booster is fed to the preamplifier on the RF section of the receiver. This
preamplifier incorporates an adjustable gain circuit and schockty barrier diodes attenuators for
user-adjustable front end protection and isolation. The low noise, high-intercept point preamplifier
is followed by the image noise filter.
Active Mixer
Signal from preamplifier is mixed with signal from local oscillator, the frequency result is 70MHz.
This section provides an active mixer which has excellent gain and low noise figure.
Local Oscillator
The Local Oscillator consists of a 800-1000MHz ultralinear, very low noise VCO which is phase
locked to a crystal-controlled reference oscillator. The phase lock loop contains the frequency
programming mode which allow the synthesizer to be changed in frequency steps of 250kHz
(standard) 25kHz or 100kHz in some models.
Semi-digital IF Demod
Semi-digital IF Demod is located together in the main PCboard of the Strider STL Receiver. An
array of moderns IC does all functions with the best performance. The 70MHz carrier frequency
from the active mixer (cavity section) is now down direct-converted to the 10,7Mhz Intermediary
Frequency. The IF is buffered to overcome mixer conversion loss.
The IF Demod module provides down conversion to the 10,7MHz, sets system selectivity in this IF,
provides the logarithmic RF signal strength voltage for metering, and establishes the mute
threshold point of the receiver.
After converted and amplified, there is a third circuit which is responsible to convert the 10,7MHz IF
into 700kHz and then, the third conversor of the STL extracts the audio baseband signal.
Audio/Baseband section
The main functions of the Audio/Baseband section on the main PC board of the receiver are
to split the baseband signal into three outputs: 30Hz to 75kHz to the MPX output BNC
connector.
For mono, the split is 30Hz to 15kHz to the Mono XLR connector. The user can choose if this
active filter in this output is disabled or enabled through internall jumpers. So, it is possible to
transmit 30Hz to 75kHz through this XLR connector. This module contains a mute switch,
controlled by the main processor and the mute comparator output of the Mute and Transfer
circuitry. The signal is then passed through a high frequency amplitude corrector, which
compensates for the baseband high-frequency roll-off caused by the 10,7MHz IF bandpass
filters, to restore proper amplitude response to the baseband signal.
The signal level is adjusted by the processor, beetwen 0% and 100% (normally 0V to 4Vpp)
in both outputs, MPX and Mono.
For Stereo demod operation, 2 XRL connectors was placed, the Stereo demod section
provides an excellent stereo separation through a modern IC. In this point, the signal level
has not adjust and a fix level of 0dB normally is found in the 2 XLR outputs (left and right). To
mute the stereo demod, the user have to accede the internal jumpers, that originally come
no-muted (See “jumpers section - configurations”).
The Mute and Transfer circuitry located in the main PC board of the receiver mutes the audio
signal during periods of insufficient RF signal strength or for transfering operation to another
receiver. This function is only available to the XLR connectors selectable by internal
jumpers, not for Mono (XLR connector ) and MPX output ( BNC connector).
The Metering and Status circuitry, located in the front panel PC board, condition the
metering samples and drives the status LEDs on the panel, also is possible to change any
parameter of the receiver, like choose channel and volume level. Remote status functions
are also provided.
The Power Supply section of the main PC board converts any AC input voltages
(110V/220V) into the three regulated voltages, required for the operation of the receiver.
The outputs are +12V, -12V and +5V for the most of the system electronics. A regulated +5V
supply the main processor and LCD display backlight.
Remote Control
The Remote Control section in the receiver is a circuitry responsible to change the state of
the relay. This function is possible to connect auxiliary systems in the receiver, that will
change the state when the RF signal in the antenna is more than 10% of the maximum
signal. This parameter can be viewed through the LCD on the front panel.
This chapter contains the necessary instructions for the installation and use of the
equipment. In case some aspects are not totally clear, for instance when a user is using this
equipment for the first time, we advise the new user to read carefully the entire description
contained in this manual.
3-2-1 Preparation
Unpack the transmitter unit and check, before making any operation, that the unit has not
suffered from any mishandling during the transport. In particular check that all the
connectors are in perfect conditions.
Check that the supply voltage value coincides with the AC voltage available.
Check that the power switch of the Strider Transmitter Link is in the position “OFF”.
The Strider Transmitter Link has just one power switch, located in the front panel, this switch
is responsible to connect the AC power or the DC power (+12V battery).
Connect the RF output of the Strider Transmitter Link to the antenna cable or to a dummy
load adapted for the working frequency and the power output used.
REMARK: it is essential that the AC network has an accurrate grounding system order to
ensure both the safety of the users and the correct functioning of the unit.
If the user intends to use external batteries instead AC supply interruption, connect them to
the clamps situated at the back of the equipment being careful to respect the polarity.
Connect the audio cables of your own audio signal to the apropriate connectors located at
the back of the Strider Transmitter Link.

This view produces to the user the measurements corresponding to the composite signal
which modules the FMOSC in the VCO block of the Strider Transmitter Link.
In this section, the modulation level is not configured by the processor. Note that the rear
panel of the Strider Transmitter Link there are 2 direct inputs to the VCO block, that they are:
SCA input and MPX input.
When the audio is connected into the each one of those inputs, the deviation must be
adjusted following this Composite Audio Meter. The measure “100%” corresponds to
100kHz of deviation of carrier.
Note that is often recommended the user modules up to 75%, above this interferences could
be happen in another channels.
When the Stereo Generator and Audio Processor Card is installed, this meter never goes to
measure more than 75%.
AUDIO MOD.|~75K
%~ÛÛÛÛÛ
The Strider Transmitter Link supports the deviation of 100kHz without any kind of distortion.
“MAX” in the LCD corresponds to 110% of modulation, 110kHz of deviation. In some case, is
possible to transmit 110% of modulation, but this overmodulation may cause interferences
in channels located after and before the channel which is transmitting, thus interfering with
other potential users. The “CLP” corresponds to “CLIPPER”.
REMARK: NEVER leave the transmitter modulate more than “MAX” in any case.

1) PLL Unlocked
This fail may happen in case that the PLL system doesn't reach enough voltage to get lock
the VCO. The main cause of this fail might be at the initial moment when the Strider
Transmitter Link is turned on, in this case, observe that the second led which corresponds to
“PLL Locked” doesn't light. This fail may happen in less than 1% of the cases when the
equipment is changed the frequency out of factory. Coming from factory, the equipment is
adjusted about 1/2 VCC that means the restraint bow is quite big and this warning won't
surely be exhibited in any case.
PLL LOCK
2) VSWR PROTECTION
The Strider Transmitter Link is equipped with a modern and intelligent circuit to protect it for
any kind of antenna fail. If in the case the antenna is disconnected, the transmitter auto-
protect itself automatically reducing the RF level to 0W.
Also, if the coax cable has not good impedance or fail in any connection, simplest the
equipment reduces the power and works in foldback mode.
This circuitry is very fast, allowing the transmitter has a long life.
Note that in the front panel exists a led to show if the RF power is operating, in this safety
mode, this led will be turned off.
This view, like the “PLL UNLOCK” are only “readings”and therefore cannot be modified.

left in blank)
This chapter contains necessary instructions for installation and use of Strider Receiver
Link. In case some aspects are not totally clear, for instance when a user is using this
equipment at the first time, we advise the new user to read carefully the entire description
contained in this manual.
PREPARATION
Unpack the Strider Receiver and check, before making any operation, if the unit has not
suffered from any mishandling during the transport. In particular check that all the
connectors are in perfect conditions.
Check if the switch located in the rear panel is in position equivalent to the available voltage.
Check if the switch located in the front panel of Strider Receiver Link is switched to «OFF»
position.
The Strider Receiver Link has this switch which interrupts completely the AC supply of the
unit.
REMARK: It is essential that the AC network has an accurate grounding system in order to
ensure both the safety of the users and the correct functioning of the unit.
USE
Switch on the receiver by putting the selector on the position “ON” the switch situated on the
front panel.
SINTECK

Note that this moment if possible to change the frequency of operation on the Strider
Transmitter Link.
REMARK: Make sure that the antenna can respond to all frequencies of the Strider Link,
that has 25MHz bandwidht at minimum. The Strider Receiver Link has a dual cavity system
with high gain, if the antenna is out of the central frequency the user will note that the level of
RF-in is less than “MAX” if the Strider Transmitter link is operating near from this receiver.
FREQUENCY CHANGING
To change the frequency on the Strider Receiver Link is necessary to press the button “UP”
or “DOWN”on the front panel, like shows the next figure:

This view shows to the user the measurements corresponding to the RF level that the
Strider Receiver Link is receiving from the transmitter. For these tests, make sure that the
Strider Transmitter Link is operating, near from this receiver, just to comprove all functions of
both equipments. In this case, this view is only “readings” and therefore may not be modified
through the front panel or buttons. In use, this view provides the user to know of what
conditions arrives the RF signal coming from the transmitter and to improve the reception
modifying the position of transmitting and receiving antennas.
RX SIGNAL LEVEL:
S~ÛÛÛÛÛÛÛÛÛÛÛMAX
In this menu, it is possible to adjust the trigger level of the remote drive system at the same
time the level of the mute circuit is triggered.
The remote circuit works triggering a relay when the reception level is predetermined in this
menu. The default position is 30%, which means that when the receiver detects 30% of RF
level in its antenna, then the relay is triggered. It is possible to change this level, leaving the
receiver less sensitive to the drive and thus more immune to interferences.
REMOTE / MUTE:
SIGNAL ADJ.~ 30%
Pressing the buttons «UP» or «DOWN» you can manage this level of
triggering, and after choosen the level desired, press «SEL» to confirm
the new position.
REMOTE / MUTE:
SIGNAL ADJ.~ 30%
In the rear panel of the Strider Receiver Link there are a bridge of 3 contacts whose
correspond to output of this relay, if the input RF signal was set to 30% and signal received is
equal or above this, then the relay is connected and its contacts are changed. When there is
no RF input signal, the contacts 1 and 2 are normally connected. When there is RF being
received, the relay is turned on and the pins 1 and 3 are now connected. This system allows
the connection of auxiliar systems like a FM transmitter, connection of fans, lights, audio
signals and others. Note that the maximum load of this system is only 10 Amps, this means
that loads of more power may not be fed, then it is necessary to install an external contactor
for loads of high power, like shown the following illustration:

This view produces to the user the measurements corresponding to the composite signal
which modules the Strider Transmitter Link on the Strider Receiver Link.
When the Strider Transmitter Link is in operation and there is audio modulating it, this menu
can view the audio modulation in percents.
In this section, the modulation level is not configured by the processor. This values indicated
are “readings” and therefore cannot be modified by the user.

In this menu is possible to change the audio level in the outpus of the Strider Receiver Link
digitally. Pressing the button “UP” the audio level is increased up to 100% that corresponds
to 4Vpp in the MPX output and MONO output (note that this value of 4Vpp is balanced in this
XLR connector, if the user uses the connection +inphase to the ground the maximum audio
level in this case will be 2Vpp - it is just found 4Vpp if connected the pin +inphase to the -
return).
Remark: the stereo demodulated outputs have not adjustable level, that it is fixed in
0db, this menu is only valid to the MONO output and MPX output.
Pressing “DOWN” the audio level goes to 0V in the outputs, like shown the following
illustration:

The Strider Link Receiver has an output suitable for headphones connection, so that is
possible to hear the programming coming from the studio in a transparent way, stereo, high-
quality sound and high power output, it is possible to listen to the program even the receiver
is installed closer to transmitters whose emit high noise level.
The output connector of this system is located on the front panel. To facilitate their
connection was introduced a female J10 connector and the output volume is controlled
digitally.
Pressing the "UP" and "DOWN" it is possible to adjust the output level more appropriate,
and this setting is get from 0 to 10, with a total power of 100mW.

The Strider Receiver Link has this configuration when the user needs to mute the audio
outputs, this function is also known as “squelch”. In this menu, pressing the button “UP” this
function is enabled, then the audio output “MONO” only works when the Strider Transmitter
Link is modulating or only emitting carrier. Note that this function is only destined to the
“MONO” XLR output, the MPX and Stereo demodulated outputs is not affected by this
function. If the user needs to configure the audio mute also the Stereo demodulated outputs,
it is necessary to configure it internally through of jumpers (see the “jumpers configurations
section” in this manual).
The following illustration shows how is this function set, to come back to default
configuration, the same button “UP” must be pressed again.
AUDIO MUTE: ON
CONFIG HOLD: OFF
2) CONFIG HOLD
This menu disables to set all adjustables menus. Pressing the button “DOWN” the
equipment will not change channels, contrast and volume level.
Equally to the Strider Transmitter Link, the “config-hold” menu was created thinking on the
necessity to disable all adjustable functions on the Strider Receiver Link - only the qualified
personnel can set again the “config hold off”.
This fail can happen in the case that PLL system doesn't reach enough voltage to get lock
the VCO block in the Strider Receiver Link. The principal cause of this fail can be the initial
moment when the Strider Receiver Link is turned on, in this case, observe that the second
led that corresponds to the “PLL Locked” doesn't light. This fail type can happen in less than
1% of the cases when the equipment is altered the frequency out of the factory.

The 4nd LED on the front panel corresponds to the stereo demodulator circuit of the Strider
Receiver Link. When the transmittion is being in stereo, this LED indicates the stereo
demodulator is operating. If the Strider Transmitter Link operates in MONO or doesn´t has
the Stereo Generator Card this LED will not lights. The next illustration shows the Strider
Receiver Link working 100%.
