Energias Convencionales
Hello my name is Diego Alfonso Velasco and today we are going to explain why hydroelectric
power is one of the most popular and widely used forms of renewable energy in the world. Here
are some reasons why it is considered one of the best energy alternatives:
Renewable and sustainable: Hydropower is renewable because it uses the energy of moving water
to generate electricity. Water is a source of energy that is constantly renewed through the water
cycle in nature, which means that it does not run out.
Greenhouse Gas Emissions: Hydropower produces no greenhouse gas emissions, making it a clean
and environmentally friendly source of energy. This means that it does not contribute to climate
change.
Operation and Maintenance Costs: Compared to other forms of renewable energy, hydropower
has low operation and maintenance costs. Once the hydroelectric plant is built, the cost of
generating electricity is relatively low and does not depend on fossil fuel prices.
Energy storage capacity: Hydroelectric power plants can store energy in the form of water in a
reservoir. This means that power can be produced when needed, making it a reliable power source
capable of meeting demand at times of high demand.
Flexibility and scalability: Hydropower plants can adjust the amount of power they produce based
on demand. In addition, it is possible to build hydroelectric plants of different sizes, which makes
them suitable for different types of demand.
In short, hydropower is one of the best energy alternatives due to its renewability, sustainability,
low greenhouse gas emissions, low operation and maintenance costs, energy storage capacity,
flexibility, and scalability.
