The Simple Past Tensea / Pasado simple

It is used to represent an action/event that took place in the past, and is form, the simple by adding an ‘ed’ or ‘d’
to the end of the base verb. (regular verbs) / Se utiliza para representar una acción/evento que tuvo lugar en el
pasado, y se forma de forma sencilla añadiendo una 'ed' o una 'd' al final del verbo base. (verbos regulares)

Structure Affirmative form: estrutura de la forma afirmativa

Subject + Verb in past “Ed or D” + complement


I Filed All the letter yesterday
You Walked Two blocks
He Saved The documents
She Applied The bill clearly
It Printed For the job
We Omitted Some details
You Planed The meeting

What are regular verbs? Those are the verbs that have the “ED” ending but with three different sounds ending
depending of the last consonant.

¿Qué son los verbos regulares? Esos son los verbos que tienen la terminación “ED”, pero con tres sonidos finales
diferentes dependiendo de la última consonante.

Rules for regular verbs to add the “ED” / Reglas para verbos regulares para agregar el 'ED' /

1. For the most of the verbs we add “ED” to form the simple past

2. If the verb ends “y”, we change the “y” to “I” and added -ed.

Tips to pronounce the “ED” ending Consejos para pronunciar la terminación “ED”
-Voiced sounds used the vocal cord and they produced vibration in the throat.
-unvoiced sounds do not produced vibration in the throat.
-Los sonidos sonoros utilizan las cuerdas vocales y producen vibraciones en la garganta.
-los sonidos sordos no producen vibración en la garganta.

Regular verbs have three different ending sounds depending of the last consonant phonetic
sound and those are: d / t / id

The sound /d/ for voiced sounds: b, g, l, n, m, r, s, v, z, th


Described, damaged, called, opened, named. Entered, closed, lived, amazed, smoothed

The /t/ sound for voiceless sounds: c, f, k, p, ss x, sh, ch gh, th


Danced, sniffed, liked, stopped, kissed, fixed, washed, watched, laughed, unearthed

The /id/ sound for verbs that end in t or d


Waited, wanted, needed, decided

Los verbos regulares tienen tres sonidos finales diferentes dependiendo del sonido
fonético de la última consonante y esos son: d / t / id

El sonido /d/ para sonidos sonoros: b, g, l, n, m, r, s, v, z, th

What are irregular verbs? Those are the verbs that change their written form and those must be
memorized, because those do not follow a patter as regular verbs.
¿Qué son los verbos irregulares? Esos son los verbos que cambian su forma escrita y hay que
memorizarlos, porque no siguen un patrón como los verbos regulares.

To form the negative form, we use the auxiliary “did + not” and do not add ED to the verb
Para formar la forma negativa, usamos el auxiliar “did + not” y no agregamos ED al verbo

Negative form: To deny something in past Forma negativa: Negar algo en pasado.

Ejercicio: escriba 5 oraciones aplicando el pasado simple en su forma de negativa
To form the question form, we use the auxiliary “did at the beginning of the sentence” and do not add
ED to the verb.

Para formar la forma de pregunta, usamos el auxiliar “did al inicio de la oración” y no agregamos ED al
verbo.

Question form: to ask, for something in past Forma de pregunta: preguntar, por algo en pasado
