Situada a cerca de 1500m, en la falda del Pico Gamoniteiro, esta es una escuela muy expuesta y
espectacular. Todos los sectores ofrecen cierta sensación de aventura, y al estar en plena montaña,
deberemos actuar con cierta precaución durante el acceso. La roca es, por lo general, buena caliza gris,
y aunque la mayoría de vías no son muy largas, sí que son exigentes. Es casi tan recomendable por sus
espectaculares vistas (podemos ver Picos y León) como por la escalada, y un buen lugar para escalar con
tranquilidad y sin mucha gente alrededor, apreciando la belleza de Asturias.

Niños: Probablemente no sea el mejor lugar para los niños. De todos los sectores, el más adecuado podría
ser Rebequera.

Temporada: Con orientación sur y gran altitud, puede ser una buena opción en verano, pero sera difícil en-
contrar sombra! Obviamente la primavera y el otoño también, aunque podremos encontrar días demasiado
friíos. No hay muchas chorreras, por lo que en invierno podremos encontrar paredes secas, pero tendremos
qeu tener cuidado con el frío.

Desde Oviedo, dirigirse en dirección sur hacia León por la A66, saliendo en Pola de Lena, y tomar la AS230,
subiendo por el Puerto de La Cobertoria durante unos 9km, hasta un obvio giro a la derecha. Continuar por
esta carretera durante unos 4km hasta llegar a un corral de vacas y aparcar ahí para los sectores Pingüi y
Mayéu, o 100 metros más adelante para el sector Rebequera.

Cómo llegar: Para Rebequera, continuar por la pista durante 150 metros hasta que giramos para tomar un
camino diagonal cuesta arriba, hacia un collado. Pasar este y encontraremos el sector a unos 50 metros a la
derecha. Para Pingüi, iremos en dirección sur desde el parking durante unos 150-200m, siguiendo la ladera
que se encuentra a nuestra izquierda hasta que no podamos continuar, y entonces encontraremos el sector
a nuestra izquierda. Para Mayeu, seguir el mismo camino, pero unos 50m antes de Pingüi hay una empinada
rampa de hierba a nuestra izquierda marcada por ´hitos´. Subiremos por ella unos 50m y cruzaremos una
portilla antes de bajar hasta el sector.

 At nearly 1500m, on the steep southern flanks of Pico Gamonitiero, this is a crag with an exposed
and spectacular aspect. All the sectors have a slightly adventurous feel, seemingly perched on the
side of the mountain, and care needs to be taken with the access and drops. The rock is generally very good,
hard, grey limestone and although the majority of the routes aren’t long they seem to pack a punch. Almost as
recommendable for the incredible views, across to the picos, into Leon and beyond - as much as the climbing
this is a place to escape the crowds and enjoy the beauty of Asturias.

Children: Probably not the best spot for children, though of the three Rebequera is the most amenable.

Season: Facing south and very high this can be a good choice in summer, though there is very little shade!
Obviously in spring and autumn too - though colder days will be very chilly. There’s not much seepage so
winter can be OK - just watch out for the cold.

Directions: From Oviedo drive south towards Leon on the A66 exiting at Pola de Lena and take the AS230
up the very steep pass of La Cobertoria for about 9km until a faily obvious right turn. Follow this road for
4km until there’s a large corral and park there for Pingüi and Mayéu, or about 100 metres further next to an
obvious track for Rebequera.

To get to the crag: For Rebequera follow the track for about 150 metres until you cut off, heading diagonally
uphill following a rough path, towards an obvious notch on the skyline. Go through this and turn right and the
first routes appear in 50m. For Pingüi walk south from the parking for about 150-200m hugging the hillside on
the left until you can’t go any further and the sector’s on your left. For Mayeu follow the same route but about
50m before Pingüi there’s a steepish grass gully on the left which is marked by some cairns. Climb this for
50m metres and the cross a fence to drop down to the crag.
