 ¿Una casa sin ordenadores? ¡Sí, por favor!

¡Qué placer sería eso! Por un lado, sería mucho más fácil de moverse en nuestra
casa si nos deshacemos de nuestros tres PCs y dos ordenadores portátiles. Y sin
impresoras, altavoces, teclados o cables, habría menos polvo en todas partes.

¿Te imaginas, también, cómo mejorarían las relaciones familiares? Mi hermano

podría salir de su habitación más a menudo, y mi papá podría mirarme en lugar de
la pantalla del ordenador cuando estamos teniendo una de nuestras raras
conversaciones. Tendríamos más tiempo para jugar juegos juntos, cocinar comida
real o incluso hablar entre sí.

Naturalmente, la tarea podría ser más difícil. Tendría que utilizar libros para
encontrar información, y escribir todo con un bolígrafo en lugar de escribirlo. Pero al
menos podría concentrarme más sin interrupciones de correos electrónicos y
mensajes de chat en línea.

Por último, pero no menos importante, piense en los beneficios para mi salud.
Mi vista podría mejorar y mi espalda no dolería de estar sentado todo el tiempo. Te
hace preguntarte por qué todos tenemos computadoras.

A computer-free home? Yes, please!

What a pleasure that would be! For one thing, it would be much easier to move in
our house if we got rid of our three PCs and two laptops. And with no printers,
speakers, keyboards or wires, there’d be less dust everywhere.

Can you imagine, too, how family relations would improve? My brother might come
out of his bedroom more often, and my dad could look at me rather than the
computer screen when we're having one of our rare conversations. We would have
more time to play games together, cook real food or even talk to each other.

Naturally, homework might be more difficult. l'd have to use books to find information,
and write everything with a pen instead of typing it. But at least l'd be able to
concentrate more without interruptions from emails and online chat messages.

Last but not least, just think of the benefits to my health. My eyesight might improve
and my back wouldn't ache from sitting down all the time. It makes you wonder why
we all have computers.

Los Ladrones de Ostia

‘’Los Ladrones de Ostia’’, de Caroline Lawrence, es el primero de una serie de libros
titulada «The Roman Mysteries» y creo que es imprescindible para la biblioteca
escolar.

El libro se encuentra en el puerto romano de Ostia hace casi dos mil años. Cuenta la
historia de Flavia y sus tres amigos, y sus intentos de descubrir quién ha estado
matando a los perros de Ostia y por qué. Está llena de misterio y emoción, y la
trama tiene muchos giros y vueltas, que hacen que quieras seguir leyendo.

El libro está dirigido a niños de entre 10 y 12 años de edad que hablan inglés, pero.
es muy popular entre los niños mayores y sería ideal para adolescentes que
estudian inglés. Además, ofrece una visión fascinante de la vida en la época
romana, para que los lectores aprendan sobre historia y mejoren sus habilidades
lingüísticas.

Después de terminar ‘’Los Ladrones de Ostia’’, los estudiantes querrán pedir

prestados más libros de la serie. Al comprarlo, entonces, la biblioteca estaría
haciendo mucho para animar a los estudiantes a leer más en inglés.

The Thieves of Ostia

‘The Thieves of Ostia’ by Caroline Lawrence is the first in a series of books entitled
'The Roman Mysteries' and I think it's an absolute must for the school library.

The book is set in the Roman port of Ostia nearly two thousand years ago. It tells the
story of Flavia and her three friends, and their attempts to discover who has been
killing the dogs of Ostia and why. It's full of mystery and excitement, and the plot has
many twists and turns, which make you want to keep reading.

The book is aimed at ten- to twelve-year-old native English speakers, but it is very
popular with older children and would be ideal for teenagers studying English.
What's more, it gives a fascinating insight into life in Roman times, so readers learn
about history as well as improving their language skills.

After finishing 'The Thieves of Ostia, students will want to borrow further books from
the series. By buying it, then, the library would be doing a lot to encourage students
to read more in English.
