caída del Muro de Berlín . fue una revuelta popular producida en la capital de Alemania
Oriental, Berlín Oriental, el 9 de noviembre de 1989, como consecuencia de la cual quedaron
derribadas las fortificaciones defensivas de ese país que evitaban el libre tránsito con los
sectores estadounidense, británico y francés de ocupación de Berlín, y la frontera abierta de
facto. Ello fue un acontecimiento trascendente en la historia mundial que marcó el fin de
la cortina de hierro.La caída de la frontera de Alemania Oriental con Alemania Occidental tuvo
lugar pocas horas después. Este hecho puso punto final a la Guerra Fría, lo que fue
proclamado en la Cumbre de Malta tres semanas más tarde, y dio lugar a la reunificación de
ambas Alemanias menos de 11 meses después.
La caída del muro vino motivada por la apertura de fronteras entre Austria y Hungría en
mayo de 1989, ya que cada vez más alemanes viajaban a Hungría para pedir asilo en las
distintas embajadas de la República Federal Alemana.
