25 usos que le puedes dar a un

huacal

Vivir solos no es sencillo; cuando rentamos un departamento vacío o compramos una

casa nueva, comienzan los problemas de amueblarlo. En ocasiones pensamos en
todo menos en los muebles que estarían en nuestro hogar: el presupuesto que
teníamos predestinado para eso es muy poco y los muebles de las tiendas
comerciales, carísimos, o simplemente no encontramos nuestro estilo predilecto en
miles de muebles iguales hechos masivamente y en serie.

Entonces nos preguntamos qué podemos hacer para remediar nuestro problema
hogareño, buscamos algunas técnicas para reutilizar muebles viejos o compramos en
mercados de dudosa procedencia los sillones, libreros y todo lo que necesitemos pero
con el tiempo nos damos cuenta que esos muebles en los que invertimos nunca serán
ideales para nuestras necesidades: sobran huecos, nos falta espacio y las áreas no
se aprovechan como debieran.

¿Qué hubiera pasado si nosotros hubiéramos diseñado nuestros muebles? La

mayoría de las ocasiones quedan mejor puesto que los pintamos a nuestro gusto, los
hacemos con los materiales correctos, nos sentimos orgullosos de nuestro hogar con
personalidad y no gastamos ni la mitad que hubiéramos invertido con la compra poco
ideal que hicimos. 

Los huacales son una muy buena opción para repensar o pensar nuestro hogar:
sencillos, económicos y multiusos, se convierten en el aliado perfecto. Te damos
algunos sencillos ejemplos para crear el mejor sitio del mundo con poco presupuesto,
poco talento y gran ingenio:

Utiliza los espacios muertos de tu hogar colgando algunos huacales del techo y coloca
lo que más quieras dentro de ellos.
 Si tienes una casa con gran altura, te recomendamos utilizar ese gran espacio con
huacales que más tarde puedes llenar con los objetos que no sepas dónde colocar; tal
vez libros o recuerdos.
Utiliza tus huacales como una pared de luz, puedes poner velas electrónicas para n
gastar tanto y darle un toque mágico a tu hogar

Haz cajones con los huacales y colócalos cerca de la salida para ordenar tu día e
todo momento.
Realiza un pequeño invernadero con con huacales y coloca algunas semillas para que
tengas tu huerto en casa.
Si tienes una televisión pero no un mueble para acomodarla, te recomendamos apilar
algunos huacales para colocar libros, bocinas y aparatos electrónicos.
 Haz un techo debajo del techo; coloca los huacales y dale un ambiente rústico a tu
hogar. También puedes utilizarlos para colocar la despensa como si fueran cajones.
Utilízalos para colocar la despensa y botellas de vino justo detrás de las escaleras,
así, no desperdiciarás ni un centímetro de tu hogar.

Separa tus cosas y organiza tu espacio con unas repisas y los huacales. Tu hogar
lucirá mucho más ordenado y con un toque moderno.
Haz tu comedor con huacales. Si te quieres ver como todo un profesional puedes
añadir una pequeña cava para los vinos.
Puedes hacer una maceta móvil colocando unas pequeñas llantas debajo de un
huacal.
Une algunos huacales, píntalos de negro y hazlos tu mesa de centro.
Haz un escritorio sólo con huacales y una tabla, es mucho más sencillo de lo que
parece.
Crea toda una sala lounge con algunos huacales que servirán para ser bancos, mesas
y repisas.
Coloca algunos clavos y utiliza un huacal como tu buró personal.
Utiliza una escalera vieja y coloca algunos huacales con flores para tener un jardín
en tu hogar.

Sólo necesitas algunos huacales para crear una mesa de recepción y que puedas
colocar todas tus cosas al llegar a casa.
Crea un banco con un huacal y un pequeño cojín.
Decora todo tu hogar con huacales y así, además de tener un gran diseño, podrás
colocar todas tus cosas donde quieras.
Crea una mesa para casa con algunos huacales que encajen a la perfección.
Realiza una mesa de centro móvil que te permita ahorrar espacio.
Utiliza huacales para colocar la vajilla y los objetos de la cocina, clávalos y así tendrás
más espacio para preparar tus alimentos.
Haz una mesa para las frutas con unos palos y algunos huacales.

Realiza tu clóset simplemente con huacales.

Haz una base para tu cama con huacales, le dará un estilo único y rústico.

Hace poco os mostramos un interesante proyecto, que si bien no estaba realizado con
palets de madera, si que los hemos considerado dentro de los muebles con palets, ya
que para realizarlo se utilizaron unas cajas de fruta recicladas, podéis ver aquí el post
en cuestión. Hoy en Muebles de Palets os mostramos un proyecto muy similar que
parte de la misma base, utilizar las cajas de fruta apoyadas lateralmente para hacer
una mesa. Es muy fácil de hacer, en las imágenes podéis fijaros en el procedimiento
exacto. Necesitaremos lo siguiente.

4 cajas de fruta (o algo bien parecido)

4 ruedas (o soportes de madera pero mejor si utilizamos unas ruedas)
1 tabla de madera (con las dimensiones de la mesa entera nos servirá como base)
Barniz, aceite para madera o pintura
Cola para madera
Tornillos

 
En primer lugar necesitamos una tabla de madera con las mismas dimensiones que
daremos a toda la mesa, sabremos las dimensiones que necesitamos colocando las 4
cajas de fruta conjuntamente tal y como podemos ver en la fotografía, una junto a la
otra envolviendo el centro. A continuación en esta tabla colocaremos las 4 ruedas en
cada esquina con los tornillos necesarios.

Bien ahora que ya tenemos la base de la mesa le daremos la vuelta, y sobre ella
colocaremos las cajas de fruta tal y como habíamos pensado anteriormente, al
colocarlas de lado aprovecharemos su lateral como la parte superior de la mesa, y la
obertura de la caja será como un cajón donde colocar nuestras revistas, libros,
pisapapeles y otros elementos de decoración... Para fijar las cajas a la tabla
utilizaremos la cola para madera.
Ya tenemos hecha la mesa y solo faltará la decoración final, podemos pintarla,
barnizarla o aplicarle un aceite especial para madera. En la mesa de ejemplo hemos
aplicado 2 capas de varniz y el resultado como podéis ver es increible! parece una
mesa comprada en una boutique de diseño :)

Este es el proceso de construcción. Para hacerla necesitaremos 4 cajas de fruta y una

tabla cuadrada de las dimensiones del alto de una caja y el largo, en este caso
90x90cm. También necesitaremos 4 ruedas o unos tacos de madera para levantarla
sobre el suelo.

personalizar, la reforma, la personalización, finalmente, salir de su casa con

con un muy buen paso a paso cómo hacer una tabla centro con cajones
justo antes, no más ni tenía una función a menos que la exposición de las
verduras y hortalizas en la feria, y con el fin de ir a perder.

Dejar que el paso a paso:

1- Lo primero que debe hacer es lijar toda la caja. Use un guante para que
no se lastime las manos con un poco de FERPA a continuación, sólo pintar
las cuatro cajas de madera y dejar secar.

Después de unos 2- minutinhos para la tinta se seque por completo,

adjuntar la caja como se muestra a continuación uno del otro y el tornillo,
clavo puede ser preferido.
3- Ahora mida el agujero que era el centro de la mesa, cortar una paleta
para rellenar los lados y el fondo, y el tornillo.

Las mesas de centro elaboradas con maderas procedentes de otros usos están de plena
tendencia. Es la moda que nos trae y nos lleva y en estos momentos corresponde esto. La
verdad es que si te encuentras sin mesa de centro esta es una opción muy válida y actual,
además el desembolso económico es relativamente pequeño. Si tienes la suerte de disponer
de algún tipo de cajas de madera, el dispendio económico se reduce drásticamente ya que
sólo precisarás los pocos materiales necesarios para su unión. De todas maneras podemos
encontrar cajas de madera bastante económicas.
Como podéis apreciar la mesa es muy práctica y bonita. Tiene espacio de sobra para el
almacenaje y es muy cómoda. Además como están tan de moda estas mesas de centro sólo
con su presencia pondrán nuestra sala de estar a la última.
 Los materiales que se necesitan para hacerla son:

 Cuatro cajas de madera iguales.

 Un tablero para la base o listones para hacer un marco.
 Cuatro ruedas grandes, tipo industrial.
 Tornillería.
 Sellador de poliuretano.
 Té, vinagre y lana de acero.
 Pinceles.
En primer lugar prepararemos el marco o el tablero que soportará y actuará como base de las
cajas de madera. Elegiremos madera con suficente grosor para fijar las ruedas correctamente.
Como en todos los trabajos con madera procederemos a lijar y acabar las distintas partes
antes de su unión.

Uniremos las cajas entre sí tal como se puede apreciar en la foto de arriba, formando un
cuadrado. En el hueco que nos quedará en la zona central podemos realizar un cubrimiento
parcial con unos listones conformando un pequeño cajón que posteriormente servirá o para
guardar los mandos a distancia o para rellenar con elementos decorativos.

Podemos transferir imágenes, en esta ocasión marcas de vino, para darle una apariencia
retro. Esta transferencia podemos realizarla con el método que expusimos en otro artículo
dedicado a la transferencia de fotografías a lienzo en esta misma guíademanualidades.
Procederemos a la tinción de la madera para conseguir un efecto de madera envejecida. Para
ello usaremos infusión de té y acetato férrico. El acetato férrico que da un tono gris oscuro a la
madera, como el que adquiere la madera natural con el transcurrir de los años. Este producto
lo podemos elaborar colocando lana de acero muy fina en vinagre durante un día o dos.
Pintamos con el té y el acetato férrico toda la madera de la mesa y ésta adquirirá de inmediato
un montón de años. Después aplicaremos un sellador para protegerla del uso normal de una
mesa de centro.
Finalmente tendremos una buena mesa de centro, moderna, decorativa y económica.
Realizada además con poco esfuerzo y dificultad. Además tenemos mesa de centro hasta
hartarnos, es muy resistente y duradera.

At last! I've finally finished my coffee table and I'm so excited to reveal it! I'd love to say it's perfect but like with
any art project, given the chance to do it over again I would change up a few steps. But it's still pretty cool! ;)

A leg of our old coffee table is about to give out. The reason why? My kitchen table is where my laptop sits
along with my printer, usually parts/materials to a half dozen upcoming projects, unopened mail... and opened
mail, magazines for ideas and well, you get the point. Our coffee table is the "dining room table". So the legs
get a lot of wear and tear from being pushed in and scooted out for meal times.
 The leg is a little wobbly.

Regardless of whether your an artist or creative, I refuse to pay $500+ for a new coffee table. My first thought
was making a pallet coffee table. Pallets are free and with a few scrapes of wood you could throw it together
fairly easy. BUT, everyone's doing that now, so I had to find something unique. ;) I started sketching out some
drawings for building my own table and then the idea came to me and I knew it was something original. I saw
online someone had taken an old wine crate and put casters on the bottom. I believe they were using it for
some kind of storage container but it got me thinking.....

Materials:
~ 4 Wooden Crates ~ I already had one on hand from Michael's so I bought 3 more. Using their 40% coupon
for each crate they came to just over $7 each. (I'd love to make a table with actual vintage wine crates) Crates
are 12.5"W x 18"L x 9.5"H.
~ Two 1x4 ~ I used Pine but it shouldn't matter
~ 4 Casters ~ {Update: check out how I've made rustic looking casters here} I already had these on hand but
this is one thing I would change. I thought about trying to rust these a little but I actually wanted the
functionality to be able to un/lock the wheels and I was afraid intentionally rusting them would cause some
problems. So next time I'll look for casters that are all black or have a rustic look. 

Optional Materials: 
~ Images (not necessary if you use a real wine crate) - I found one on The Graphics Fairy and a few others
online
~ Mod Podge ~ Matte Finish
~ Stain ~ Vinegar, steel wool and brewed tea {See my Stain Tutorial for more options}
~ A variety of screws, nails, L brackets, and bolts
~ Satin Polyurethane

Final Dimensions: 27"W x 27"D x 17"H

Total Cost: $7 (x4 crates), $8 worth of wood for the frame and $7 per caster = $72 
*price does not include screws, nails, stain or finish.  

I'm not intentionally being vague but unless you go out to buy these exact crates from Michael's then your
measurements are going to be completely different than mine. 

I figured out the arrangement of the crates. Don't worry about the hole in the middle, I'll get to it.
My first step should have been to stain all the crates before I started screwing them together. Would have
made that job a whole lot easier. However, I started by building a frame. This would not only be a solid
foundation but it would give me a piece of wood much thicker than the crates to screw in the casters. You'll
notice I arrange the crates how I wanted them. I based my measurements for the frame on this. For extra
support, where the sides of the frame connect I drilled holes in the sides of each board, filled the holes with
wood glue, placed dowels into each hole and fit the pieces together. For the middle boards (that create the + ),
I secured them to the frame using L brackets. 

I first nailed the crates to hold them in place temporarily. I then went back with screws and removed the nails
when I was done. Now, thanks to Bob Ross, "There are no mistake, only happy accidents." That hole in the
middle... what to do with it? Make it one of the features! At first I thought about making it a planter box but
remembered all the times we've throw magazines, books, PS3 remotes (Honey!) onto the table and figured a
plant wouldn't survive. So I thought I'd tie it together with my River Rock Side Table. Unfortunately I'm out of
rocks so I had to improvise. I flipped the crates upside down, used a few scrap pieces of wood and L brackets.
I only wanted the hole to be about 4-5 inches but you could make it taller depending on where you place the
brackets. Just remember it's upside down, so the closer your L brackets are to you, the deep hole you'll have.
Next I transferred over my wine images. Again, I need to change the order of this step. Once I stained the
wood the images were almost completely gone. But at the time they looked great!

Stain time! One week before staining I put about 2 cups of vinegar in a container along with a steel pad (SOS
pad) and let it sit for a week. Right before I planned to stain I heated about 4 cups of water until it was almost
boiling and then steeped 2 bags of tea. (I'm guessing the flavor of tea doesn't matter considering a used
Lipton's Mango Team. Definitely made the basement smell good.) After the tea has steeped for a bit use a
paint brush and coat your wood with the tea. The 4 cups I used was just enough to cover all the wood and a
little more.

It's a little hard to tell but the wood be a little darker from 
the tea
Grab another brush and use your vinegar/wool solution. It should be a nice, murky brown by now. Start
painting the wood. Please don't freak! The wood will look almost black. I had a slight panic attack and tried to
quickly wipe away the stain (which, by the way, doesn't help).
 Don't plan on reusing your Tubberware container... unless
you're staining something something else

Feeling defeated I continued on, counting the amount of money and time I'd already invested only to have to
start over. Don't stress too much if it's darker than you think you'll like. Over the next 24 hours the stain really
soaked into the wood and the color lightened. {Check out other staining options.}

black, but it lightened up quite a bit
Next, sanding.... *insert major groan*! I don't know why but this is the worst part for me. Maybe it's because
every year since turning 25 my allergies get worse and worse. But in all honesty I hated it before that. I think
my hatred has only increased since then because now I know I HAVE to wear a mask which I always
considered optional before.
 I tried to smile and look happy but 1) I'm wearing a mask and
2) I wasn't very happy.
I threw the casters on the bottom and was starting to get pretty pumped about the table. Just a few more steps.

I really wish I had more rustic looking wheels. :/

I went back and tried to redo my wine label transfers. Some of them worked. I had one side so messed up I
was about it pull my hair out! This side will face away from the main traffic in the living room. ;)
 I think I might have been too excited. I printed a reverse image 
and then covered the print in Mod Podge and waited for it to dry

Or at least I thought I waited. The Graphics Fairy imaged turned 

out the best out of all of them.

Last but not least, polyurethane. I used a Satin finish. Next time (if I choose to create another for some reason)
I would use a lighter stain and I would like to try a beeswax sealer. I haven't found it in any store but I did find
how to make your own on Pinterest!

I've scoured the internet trying to find a Wine Crate Coffee Table and have not been able to find one like mine.
(I'm going to feel like an idiot if one of you come back saying you found one) While this project cost more than I
typically like to spend, it was definitely NOT anywhere close to crossing over into double digits never mind
closing in on a grand!

This is about as close as I could get. I do love the wheels on this 

table and it's made from reclaimed wine crates. You can find
it online at Hudson Goods. But can you believe the price tag?

 Here was my thought with the coasters. When people use 
them and the coasters themselves become soaked, what do 
you do? Well, now I have a way dry them off for a while. 
I think it'll work a little better once I have rocks but the 
corks should do a pretty fabulous job in the meantime.
