Infinitive and gerunds for describing processes and strategies (how to do things)
Uso de infinitivos y gerundios en la descripción de procesos y estrategias

Utilizamos TO para explicar el propósito de una acción, analiza los siguientes ejemplos:

• I came here to make a comment.

• My friend telephoned to invite everybody some tacos.
• We shouted to warn everybody of the possible danger.

También se utiliza para expresar que algo se tiene que hacer con “algo”:
• I want something to eat.
• It is too much work to do.
• I need something to open the bottle.
• Can I borrow your pen to write down a message?

Algunos sustantivos que son acompañados de la preposición TO para mencionar procesos y

estrategias son las palabras: money, time, chance, opportunity, energy, courage, etc.

• I need money to move on.

• I want more time to think.
• This is my opportunity to become a better person.

Inlcuso las unidades de tiempo, dinero, energía pueden ser utilizadas

• We need 2 days to complete the process.
• We need 10 thousand dollars to stat the business.

La preposición TO también puedes ser acompañada de “question words” how, where, what, etc.
• She told you what to do.
• Let me explain how to do it.
• She knows exactly where to go.

En todos los casos anteriores, luego de la preposición se ah colocado un verbo en infinitivo. A

continuación, analizaremos la preposición BY para explicar
• You can solve the problem with your cell phone by reinstalling the app.
• The best way to communicate on Whatsapp is by using animated gifts.
• I think that your problem with girls is not solved by installing Tinder.
• I think you cannot forget your ex-boyfriend by starting with a new one.
• One way to learn English is by watching Netflix.
