Noun clauses after the verb to be.

Cláusulas con expresiones complementarias después del verbo ser/estar

Dentro de esta lección vamos a trabajar 3 enunciados compuestos, analiza los siguientes:
• An advantage of studying in the IPN is that you always find the solution to a problem.
• The best thing about analyzing living organisms is that you are part of the cutting edge
of scientists.
• A problem with working with DNA is that some people think it is not ethical.

Como primera actividad estudia las preposiciones que preceden al verbo terminado en ING, las
cuales se muestran a continuación:
• An advantage of + _____ ING
• A disadvantage of + _____ ING
• The best thing about + _____ ING
• The worst thing about + _____ ING
• A problem with + _____ ING

A continuación, analiza que dentro de la segunda parte de la estructura se encuentra:

a) El verbo ser / estar en presente simple seguido de la palabra “that”; así como
b) Persona + verbo

Example 1
Para poner en práctica la estructura anterior hablaremos del poder adquisitivo de una persona
con alguno de los siguientes vocabularios
• Being rich
• Being poor
• Being middle class

Partiremos del supuesto que somos “middle class”

✓ Piensa en una ventaja / desventaja

✓ Piensa en lo mejor / lo peor
✓ Un problema por ser de dicha clase social

Ahora crearemos tres enunciados, como los siguientes:

• An advantage of being middle class is that you drive your own car.
• The best thing about being middle class is that you can go to a restaurant every now and
then.
• The problem with being middle class is that sometimes you have to take the public
transportation.
Example 2
Pensemos a continuación los modelos de estudio a distancia (online) / presencial / híbrido

• Studying online
• Taking classes in a face-to-face environment
• Attending a blended educational model

Como se puede observar, el verbo no necesariamente tiene que ser UNO, sino que puede
variar. En ese sentido considera para la creación de tres enunciados se variará el verbo relativo
con:
✓ una ventaja / desventaja
✓ lo mejor / lo peor
✓ Un problema con

• An advantage of studying online is that you can take a nap after a class.
• The best thing about taking classes at home is that you don’t have to worry about food
or transportation.
• A problem with attending classes at home is that there are fewer chances to actively
participate.

Exercise C:
a) Read the following scenarios:
1. Body complexion (being fat, thin, strong, athletic, sexy, fit, plump, hot)
2. Drinking habits (being a teetotaler, social drinker, alcoholic)
3. Face (having a pretty face, handsome face, an ugly face)
4. Exercise (being lazy, exercising regularly, boxing, practicing jiu jit zu, doing yoga, playing
volleyball…)
5. Beliefs (being atheists, spiritual, catholic, Christian, Mormon, satanic)
6. Speaking (English, Nahuatl, Japanese, German, French…)
7. Taking class with teacher Sam …
8. Listening to (old music, rock music, science podcasts, philosophical podcasts, pop
music…)
9. Significant other (having a boyfriend/girlfriend, being single, cheating on your partner)
10. A hobby: Dancing, singing, playing…

b) Selecciona 7 de los escenarios anteriores

c) Agrega un escenario (diferente a los enlistados)
d) Redacta 3 enunciados por cada uno de los escenarios
e) El total de enunciados es 8 escenarios X 3 enunciados = 24 enunciados dentro del
entregable

sido redactados se debe tomar una fotografía del cuaderno o libreta donde se han elaborado
con los subtítulos unidad 1 tema 1.3, nombre completo, grupo así como los enunciados
descritos dentro de las instrucciones del ejercicio; utiliza el siguiente diagrama como referencia.
