¿Cuál es el propósito de la tecnología?

Con el pasar del tiempo la tecnología crece exponencialmente. En la última década se ha obtenido
más conocimiento científico que en todo la historia de la humanidad, lo que se traduce como las
bases sólidas en las cuales la tecnología se desarrolla, pero ¿realmente se puede llamar a esto
tecnología?

Yokoi kenji en su video “¿Cuál es el propósito de la tecnología?” reflexiona sobre este tema, da un
ejemplo en el cual, en una aldea pobre, las personas tenían que caminar varios kilómetros para
obtener servicios médicos, pasado un tiempo un hospital de tecnología avanzada se instala en la
misma aldea. Al principio todos iban a ese hospital pero luego volvían al viejo. “¿por qué sucede
esto?” se preguntaron los gerentes ¿acaso no es mejor, no está más cerca, no es más grande ni
tiene mejor maquinaria? A todo respondían los aldeanos que sí, pero en el otro hospital, el que
estaba a muchos kilómetros, las manos eran diferentes, es decir, el cariño con que atendían a los
pacientes era el que los motivaba a ir ahí en vez del hospital nuevo y cercano.

Teniendo como moraleja que el recurso más valioso de cada país es su gente, y que la tecnología
debe entenderse no como un fin, sino como un medio con el cual se logra mejorar la calidad de
vida de las personas.

Muchas de estas personas piensan que toda tecnología implica un desligue con la tradición, pero
Japón es la prueba más grande de que esto no es cierto, pues es un país que posee unas raíces que
están muy presentes en la vida cotidiana de todos ellos.

Finaliza con una verdad gigante: que la tecnología debería ser como la medicina, estar al alcance
de todos pues aquella que sirve para crear un abismo entre las personas que pueden adquirirlas y
las otras que no difícilmente puede ser considerada tecnología.

What is the purpose of technology?

With the passing of time technology grows exponentially. In the last decade it has obtained more
scientific knowledge throughout the history of humanity, which means as the solid foundation on
which technology develops, but it can really call this "technology"?

Yokoi Kenji in his video "What is the purpose of technology?" reflects on this issue, gives an
example in which, in a poor village, people had to walk several kilometers to get medical services,
after a while a hospital of advanced technology is installed in the same village. At first all went to
the hospital but then returned to the old. "Why is this happening?" Wondered managers is it not
better, it’s no closer, no bigger or has better machinery? To all they responded villagers "yes", but
in the other hospital, which was many kilometers, hands were different, that is, the affection with
which cared for the patients it was that motivated them to go there instead of new and nearby
hospital.

Taking as a lesson that the most valuable resource of every country is its people, and that
technology should be understood not as an end but as a means with which it is possible to
improve the quality of people`s life.
Many of these people think that all technology involves a desligue with tradition, but Japan is the
biggest proof that this is not true, because it is a country with roots that are very present in the
daily lives of all of them.

It ends with a giant truth: that technology should be as medicine, be available to all as one that
serves to create a gap between people who can buy them and others that can not hardly be
considered technology.
