importantes obras en inglés: Narrative logic: a semantic analysis of the historian's language (Boston,
Martinus Nijhoff, 1983), History and tropology: the rise and fall of metaphor (Berkeley, University of
California Press, 1988) e Historical representation (Stanford, Stanford University Press, 2001).
historiography: the hyperbole of opacity” de John H. Zammito (History and Theory, vol.37, n°3, 1998,
pp.330-46), “Ankersmit and historical representation” (History and Theory, vol.44, mayo 2005, pp.155-
81) y “On Frank Ankersmit’s postmodernist theory of historical narrativity” (Rethinking History, vol. 9,
n°1, 2005, pp. 5-21)..
de última generación, conviene leer “History, the referent, and narrative: reflections on postmodernism
now” del norteamericano Perez Zagorin (History and Theory, vol.38, n°1, 1999, pp.1-24).

TEXTO 5
- 16 -
INGLÉS I
universitarios.

For over three decades, the great inventor and futurist Ray Kurzweil has been one of the most respected
and provocative advocates of the role of technology in our future. In his classic The Age of Spiritual
Machines, he argued that computers would soon rival the full range of human intelligence at its best. Now
he examines the next step in this inexorable evolutionary process: the union of human and machine, in
which the knowledge and skills embedded in our brains will be combined with the vastly greater capacity,
speed, and knowledge-sharing ability of our creations.
That merging is the essence of the Singularity, an era in which our intelligence will become increasingly
nonbiological and trillions of times more powerful than it is today - the dawning of a new civilization that
will enable us to transcend our biological limitations and amplify our creativity. In this new world, there will
be no clear distinction between human and machine, real reality and virtual reality. While the social and
philosophical ramifications of these changes will be profound, and the threats they pose considerable, The
Singularity Is Near maintains a radically optimistic view of the future course of human development. As
such, it offers a view of the coming age that is both a dramatic culmination of centuries of technological
ingenuity and a genuinely inspiring vision of our ultimate destiny.

Description
Report of a Workshop on the Scope and Nature of Computational Thinking presents a
number of perspectives on the definition and applicability of computational thinking.
For example, one idea expressed during the workshop is that computational thinking is
a fundamental analytical skill that everyone can use to help solve problems, design
systems, and understand human behavior, making it useful in a number of fields.
Supporters of this viewpoint believe that computational thinking is comparable to the
linguistic, mathematical and logical reasoning taught to all children.

Food technologists are responsible for the safe and efficient development, modification and
manufacture of food products and processes.
Food technologists plan recipes and manage their production on a large scale.
Food technologists plan the manufacture of food and drink products and can work in a wide
range of settings, including kitchens, factories, laboratories and offices. Consequently, specific
responsibilities vary greatly but may include:
Typical employers
Employers of food technologists include food manufacturing and retail companies, universities,
government organisations and specialist research associations/consultancies.
Opportunities are advertised by careers services and recruitment agencies, and specialist
publications including Food Manufacture, both online and in print. Early applications are
advisable to larger employers. Speculative applications are also recommended.

INGLÉS I
There are routes into a food technology career for both university graduates and school leavers.
Graduates will need a degree in an appropriate subject, such as food science/technology,
food/chemical engineering, biochemistry, nutrition, microbiology or chemistry. Possession of a
food-related postgraduate qualification can be beneficial, particularly for candidates without a
relevant first degree. Experience can be gained via food production line employment or by
working as a technician.

School counselors are trained to give valuable assistance to students, helping them with their
academic goals, as well as their social, personal, and career development. With their help, students
can navigate problems a bit easier and with confidence.
- 32 -
INGLÉS I
Students of all ages need guidance and support, especially when going through academic,
social, and personal issues. School counselors act as advocates for the student's well-being,
listening to their concerns in a caring, non-judgemental way.
There can be various issues that students come to see a school counselor for, such as bullying,
depression, relationship troubles, low self-esteem, learning disabilities, poor academic
performance, and parental issues (just to name a few). Depending on the issue, a school
counselor can help develop a positive and realistic path towards academic or career goals, or
can refer students to a mental health counselor or psychologist for further support.
School counselors have distinct personalities. They tend to be social individuals, which means they’re
kind, generous, cooperative, patient, caring, helpful, empathetic, tactful, and friendly. They excel at
socializing, helping others, and teaching. Some of them are also enterprising, meaning they’re
adventurous, ambitious, assertive, extroverted, energetic, enthusiastic, confident, and optimistic.

- 42 -
INGLÉS I
‘the economic impact’ (el impacto económico)
- 43 -
INGLÉS I
• Los determinantes
• Modificadores
- 44 -
INGLÉS I
Adult learners...
Los estudiantes adultos…
- 45 -
INGLÉS I
construcciones:
a) participios verbales: a peer-reviewed scholarly journal dedicated to the advancement
of kinesiology
b) sintagma preposicional: International Journal of Kinesiology and Sports Science
c) proposición subordinada adjetiva: key findings that show how optimal staffing is
essential to providing quality patient care

INGLÉS I
- 54 -
INGLÉS I

College Life
This page provides information about the following aspects of life at Trinity:
Library
Education needs books and Trinity's library is extremely well stocked with them. The student working collection
has over 85,000 volumes, one of the largest such collections in the whole University. We try to stock
copies of all books recommended for use in University courses. Students can also order any book that their
Director of Studies approves as being relevant to their course. Less frequently consulted books are kept in an
on-site store, while the College's rich collections of manuscripts and rare printed books are housed in the Wren
Library. As an undergraduate you will receive an annual book grant of approximately £50 per year.
Computing
Almost all of the College rooms are now equipped with network points that give direct access to email and the
internet, and you are welcome to connect your computer to these points.
Trinity also has two well-equipped computer rooms (one in the main part of College, the other at Burrell's Field),
with more than 50 PCs and Apple Macs. A variety of software relevant to undergraduate courses is available
from a central server.
You can also use computing facilities in the library, where a number of major works of reference are available on
CD ROM. Those students studying languages have access to the use of a dedicated teaching room equipped with
a range of audio-visual teaching aids. To find out more about the Computer Department at Trinity, please visit their
pages.
Catering
The Catering Department provides meals of many different kinds for members of Trinity. A canteen lunch and
dinner are served every day during term-time and for much of vacation periods. Served dinners ('Formal Hall') are
also provided most nights in term-time, and there is also a formal meal ('B.A. Dinner') for graduates at the College
every Friday evening in term. Menus for the next fortnight are also available.
Music
Trinity College Music Society
Trinity's Music Society (TCMS) is one of the largest and most active College societies in the University. There are
regular programmes of recitals, chamber concerts and other musical events, with performances at lunchtime or in
the evening. Opportunities are provided for all enthusiastic musicians; it is not necessary to be highly skilled to
enjoy taking part.
CD Library
There is a College CD library of nearly 750 items (single discs or sets), kept in the College Library. Membership is
very reasonably priced and is open to all members of College.

DESPUÉS DE LEER
A.
The exact cause of migraines isn't known. Scientists think that they happen because some neurons
(nerves in the brain) stop working properly and send the wrong signals. This may affect the nerve system
that regulates pain.
Whatever the cause, experts do agree that different things trigger (set off) migraines in people who have
them.
Common migraine triggers (1) include:
*sudden changes in sleep patterns (2)
*smoking
*weather changes (3)

B.
Every migraine begins differently. Sometimes kids and teens get a warning that a migraine is on its way.
A few hours or even days before the actual headache, they might feel funny or "not right. They might
crave different foods, or feel thirsty, irritable, tired, or even full of energy. This is called a "premonition."
Some kids get auras. These are neurological symptoms that start just before the headache and last up to
an hour. An aura is different in every person, but it often affects vision.
