Which fashion brands develop theirs production in Indonesia? How are

related with this problem? How is the life of surrounded population
been affected?
rodeada?

The world’s most polluted river | DW

Documentary
Situ Cisanti is the name of the sacred lake at the beginning of the Citarum, the
water there is very clean. The citarum is very important for Indonesia.

The river runs down the island of Java for 300km and empties into the eastern sea of
Jakarta, the country's capital. During the first kilometers Citarum is just a stream but
quickly becomes an essential river for farmers.

nonylphenols ,plomo, nanophenol y sulfato.

Gistex: Is a poliéster fabric y este material sintético requiere muchos productos químicos.
Se necesitan 40 liters of
Suministran a Uniqlo

Z Suministran a

Suministran a H&M y Uniqlo

Marks, Spencer

The textile industries that dump wastewater into these rivers are:
Gistex: it is a polyester fabric and this synthetic material requires many
chemical products. The machines in this industry operate all hours of the
day and every day, non-stop. Produce approximately 3 million a month
worldwide. 40 liters of water are needed per shirt. They have a high lead
content in wastewater, the lead level is 1.5. They supply Uniqlo
Lenzing: This company's wastewater is worse, and its wastewater contains
high levels of sulfate and lead, the lead level is 3.5 times higher and releases
7,087 mg of sulfate per liter, almost 10 times the global recommendation. Z
They supply companies like Uniqlo, GAP, Asos, Marks, Spencer and H&M
Pan Asia: They also dump their wastewater into the river, and their
wastewater contains high levels of tributyl phosphate and nanophenol. They
supply H&M and Uniqlo

The clothing brands that supply these industries are: H&M, Adidas, Uniqlo,
GAP, Asos, Marks, Spencer

My opinión:
The pollution in Indonesia is shocking, it is too much waste and it looks horrible
and it pollutes too much and kills animals and people. Due the big pollution, the
water looks brown and you see all the waste there and it is exaggerated. It is very
sad to see the river polluted because there are many people and animals that get
sick and die. I think that people who throw waste into the river, are not aware of
how serious it is or they don’t care, but that is unfair because they sacrifice many
people and the ecosystem. Pollution directly affects people through disease,
infection and death. The river is essential for everything like consuming, washing
clothes and food, using agriculture and also for the environment, and other things,
but they don’t take care of the river and there will come a time when the entire
population and ecosystem dies due to contamination.

In the sacred lake, Situ Cisanti, at the beginning of the Citarum, the water there is
very clean.
The Citarum isa river very important for Indonesia. The river runs down the island
of Java for 300km and empties into the eastern sea of Jakarta, the country's
capital. During the first kilometers Citarum is just a stream but quickly becomes an
essential river for farmers.
Then the river crosses the largest cities on the island but the further you go there is
a lot of waste and due to the contamination there are no fish.
For many years (more than 6), there is too much waste that is collected daily and
even so there is still much more and every day it accumulates more and there are
also many dead animals.
Every year, Indonesians dump 200,000 tons of plastic into the sea.
For many years, more than 6, there is too much garbage that is collected daily and
even so there is still much more and every day it accumulates more and there are
also many dead animals.
In 19991 the water was cleaned but now is so contaminated.
The industries textile, pharmaceutical, and food industries they’re dumping
waste into the Citarum. The fields in this area were much better, before the
factories beggar to appear and now the land is gradually dying.

 Consequences:
People who live by the well use water for their basic needs and most of the people
who live there suffer from the contamination, especially children, such as nausea,
headache, diarrhea, not being able to eat, this is due to the pollution in the river.
the smell and the consequences are very big. Lead disrupts the nervous system,
central and peripheral system and if children are exposed they will have intellectual
disabilities.
Due to all pollutants, the water is highly polluted and can’t be consumed, and it
also causes big effects in the ecosystems. Other consequence is that
contaminated water causes rice plant roots to rot and insects arrive and the rice
they sell is lead-contaminated due to the contaminated water.
In Indonesia 147,000 children die each year before the age of 5
Tests of Indonesian children's hair show that they contain more than 54 different
contaminants.
Wastewater leaked in 2009 and now the land can’t be used to grow rice, the
rice field have been contaminated and because of that it is very difficult to
get money and eat. The water is no good for agricultural use but they work in
fields with contaminated water every day.
They have skin irritation because of the many germs from the rice, that are
caused by waste from the factories. E. Coli Bacteria can cause stomach pain,
heavy metals harm the skin giving people eczema which can develop into
skin ulcers
Due to contamination, the water turns black because the wastewater is not
filtered.

 Main polluters
The main pollutants are, plastics such as bottles, the textile industries throw their
wastewater directly into the river and they produce a lot a day, the color of their
wastewater depends on the dye they use. There are also pollutants like arsenic,
mercury, phosphate, cadmium, lead, nanophenol, and sulfate.

In Idaman Eramandiri, in order to clean the water and make it drinkable, it is

necessary to do 12 steps and they do them and manage to do business by
producing fewer substances that are dangerous for the environment and make the
green label eco-friendly. The fabrics in this factory with 10 percent more expensive
compared to its competitors in indonesia
Which fashion brands develop theirs production in Indonesia?
The clothing brands that supply these industries are: H&M, Adidas, Uniqlo, GAP,
Asos, Marks, Spencer

How are related with this problem?

It is related too much because due to the wastewater that Pan Asia, Lenzing and
Gistex throw into the river they become too polluted and those are the textile
industries that supply H&M, Adidas, Uniqlo, GAP, Asos, Marks, Spencer. In other
words, they are too big a problem for people who live nearby because due to the
pollution that these companies throw away, all people get sick and die, just as
animals and the ecosystem are severely affected.

How is the life of surrounded population been affected?

The consequences of the polluted river are: People who live by the well use water
for their basic needs and most of the people who live there suffer from the
contamination, especially children, such as nausea, headache, diarrhea, not being
able to eat, this is due to the pollution in the river. the smell and the consequences

Deadly Waters. Citarum: Indonesian river

keeps textile industry’s dirty secrets
Irrigates 4.000 fields and supplies drinking wáter to 25.000.000 people.

 Which fashion brands develop theirs production in Indonesia? How are

related with this problem? How is the life of surrounded population been
affected?

Uniqlo, GAP, Asos, Marks, Spencer.
gravemente.
