3. To contextualize the answer, we can take into account the following characteristics:
• It means that a market has not managed to have an equilibrium, since its two
magnitudes do not find its stability or equilibrium, a phenomenon that occurs when there
are variations between supply and demand, due to the misalignment of product prices.
• They appear when the real prices of an item or product exceed the price established in
the market, generating an increase in supply, which in turn leads to a decrease in
demand, which leads to a drop in real prices.
• Whereas, if there is a drop in the real market price, there will be a drop in the offer,
which will generate a greater demand, which would cause the product to run out and at
the same time generate a trend of rising prices. price of this product.
Market imbalance.
It occurs when the market prices generate that there are surpluses or shortages, so
the balance between the products that are demanded and the products that are offered
is broken.
Causes.
When market prices rise, according to the law of supply it increases, producers are
encouraged to produce more because they expect to obtain a higher profit due to the
increase in prices, but on the other hand, according to the law of demand, it tends to
decrease, that is to say that Due to the rise in prices, buyers are discouraged to buy
products, therefore, more products remain on the market than buyers are willing to
obtain, thus generating surpluses.
When market prices fall, according to the law of supply it decreases because
producers are not encouraged to produce more because when prices fall they do not
expect to receive more profit, but on the other hand, according to the law of demand, it
tends to rise. that is to say, due to the drop in prices, buyers are motivated to buy the
products, therefore fewer products remain on the market than the buyers are willing to
obtain, thus creating a shortage.
Possible solutions.
An attempt should be made to adjust the price to the equilibrium point of the market.
When there are surpluses, prices should be lowered so that producers discourage
them from continuing to produce more, and in the same way, buyers are willing to
demand more of these products because the price falls, this price decrease must be
made until the quantity of products offered is equal to the quantity demanded, that is,
there is market equilibrium.
When there is a shortage, prices should be raised so that producers are willing to
increase their production, and in the same way, buyers are willing to demand less of
these products because the price rises, this price increase must be made until that the
quantity of products offered is equal to the quantity demanded, that is, there is market
equilibrium (Mankiw, 2012)
