CAPITAL OF CULTURE: THE CITY OF CUZCO

 Where is the town? How many inhabitants does it have?

The city of Cuzco is located in the department of Cuzco, in the southeast of the country. It has
428,450.00 inhabitants.

 Can you say something about the history and architecture of the city?

It was founded around the 11th and 12th centuries AD. by the Inca Manco Cápac. Cusco was the
center of government of the four extensive regions of the Inca Empire, the Tawantinsuyo. The
architecture of the city of Cusco has large stone constructions linked together, such as: stone of
the twelve angles, the Inca wall, Machu Picchu and the Santa Clara arch.

 What are the most popular tourist attractions and cultural events?

The tourist attractions are: The mountain of the 7 colors of Palcoyo, the red valley of Pitumarca,
the Humantay lagoon and the Putucusi mountain.
And the cultural events are: the Inti Raymi festival and the offering to the Pachamama.
