MODULE: Profesiones(Professions)

Objective: How to talk about various professions in Spanish

In this session, the student will be trained how to speak in Spanish about
professions. This will include speaking about self and others. The student will also
learn how to ask someone about his/her profession. Also included will be an
activity at the end to consolidate this learning.

Context: Following the communicative approach, below are two conversations, a

formal and an informal one, through which the student will learn how to tell/ask
about professions.

In a party (Informal) In the school PTA meeting ( Formal)

A: !Hola! ?Cómo estás? Yo me llamo
Pedro.
B: ¡Hola! Bien…me llamo Ramón.
A: Aah…¿a qué te dedicas, Ramón?
B: Pues, soy profesor. Y tú ¿Qué haces?
A: Yo soy carpintero.
B: Muy bien. Mira, esta es mi amiga,
Daniela.
C:¡Hola! Mucho gusto, Pedro.
A: Mucho gusto, Daniela. ¿Qué haces
tú?
C: Soy enfermera.
B:Pedro, y tu novia, ¿a qué se dedica?
A: Ella trabaja en un banco. Es
banquera.
A: Buenos días, Señor. Usted es el padre
de Rafael, no?
B: Sí, sí. Buenos días. ¿Y Usted?
A: Soy el padre de Manolo. ¿A qué se
dedica?
B: Soy ingeniero. Y usted, ¿Qué hace?
A: Yo soy camarero. Trabajo en el
restaurante “El Botín”.
B: Aah..¡qué bueno! Y su esposa, ¿a qué
se dedica ella?
A: Ella es azafata.
The teacher facilitates contextual comprehension of the professions mentioned in
the conversations through body language or actions. For eg:

Carpintero = Carpenter Ingeniero= Engineer

Enfermera= Nurse Camarero= Waiter

Banquera= Banker Azafata = Airhostess
