Propuesta para la ingeniería civil

La ingeniería civil se concentra en ofrecer mejoras, avances y servicios a la

comunidad. Esta carrera Implica la concepción, planificación, diseño, construcción
y operación de las instalaciones esenciales para la vida moderna, que van desde
sistemas de transporte, a estructuras marítimas y satélites espaciales.

Esta carrera ha ido evolucionando en conjunto con la tecnología la cual le ha

abierto puertas hacia nuevas oportunidades e ideas innovadoras. Como ingeniera,
considero que la nanotecnología debe usarse en Colombia ya que es ahora una
herramienta de la que está tomando ventaja la Ingeniería.

Esta tecnología permite trabajar y manipular las estructuras moleculares y sus

átomos, de modo que los materiales y máquinas son fabricados por el
reordenamiento de átomos y moléculas.

Ya existen materiales de alto rendimiento: con mayor resistencia, durabilidad,

algunos incluso con comportamiento térmico y acústico, los cuales generan
mejores resultados en las obras civiles. Uno de los campos más favorecidos por
los grandes avances de la Nanotecnología, es sin lugar a dudas el recubrimiento
de superficies, esto para evitar la corrosión de los materiales dentro de la
construcción.

¿Qué consecuencias tiene la corrosión en la ingeniería civil?

Los efectos de la corrosión de las armaduras influyen directamente sobre el acero,

sobre el hormigón y sobre la adherencia acero-hormigón. En el acero se va
produciendo una pérdida de sección, que implica una pérdida de la capacidad
estructural del elemento. Como consecuencia de la corrosión, el hormigón de
recubrimiento de las armaduras primero se fisura y luego se desprende debido a
que los productos originados durante la corrosión tienen un volumen mayor que el
acero original, produciéndose un incremento de volumen que transmite tensiones
al hormigón provocando su deterioro.

Es por eso que están implementando los nano revestimientos para evitar la
corrosión y de esta manera la reducción de costos en mantenimiento, mejorando
la apariencia y prolongando la vida útil de las estructuras

Civil engineering concentrates on offering improvements, advancements and

services to the community. This career involves the conception, planning, design,
construction and operation of the essential facilities for modern life, ranging from
transportation systems, to maritime structures and space satellites

This career has evolved in conjunction with technology which has opened doors to
new opportunities and innovative ideas. As an engineer, I believe that
nanotechnology should be used in Colombia since it is now a tool that Engineering
is taking advantage of.

This technology allows to work and manipulate molecular structures and their
atoms, so that materials and machines are manufactured by rearranging atoms
and molecules

There are already high-performance materials: with greater resistance, durability,

some even with thermal and acoustic behavior, which generate better results in
civil works. One of the fields most favored by the great advances in
Nanotechnology, is undoubtedly the coating of surfaces, this to avoid the corrosion
of the materials within the construction.

¿What consequences does corrosion have in civil engineering?

The effects of the corrosion of the reinforcement have a direct influence on the
steel, on the concrete and on the steel-concrete adhesion. In the steel, a loss of
section occurs, which implies a loss of the structural capacity of the element. As a
consequence of corrosion, the concrete covering the reinforcement first cracks and
then detaches due to the fact that the products originated during the corrosion
have a greater volume than the original steel, producing an increase in volume that
transmits stresses to the concrete causing its deterioration.

That is why they are implementing nano coatings, to avoid corrosion and thus
reduce maintenance costs, improving the appearance and prolonging the useful
life of the structures.
