II SPECIFIC CONDITIONS OF THE EUROPEAN TECHNICAL APPROVAL

1 Definition of product and intended use

1.1 Definition of the construction product

®
Tempio FK-16 is a kit for ventilated external wall claddings consisting of:
®
• Cladding element: extruded ceramic tiles Tempio FK-16 according to EN 14411.
• Cladding fixing composed by:
- Horizontal profiles with specific geometry made of aluminium alloy.
- Stainless steel fixings for fastening the horizontal profiles to subframe (vertical profile).
- Ancillary components: stainless steel spring or adhesive point.
• Subframe composed by:
- T vertical profile made of aluminium alloy.
- Brackets made of aluminium alloy.
- Stainless steel fixings between T vertical profile and brackets.
The description of each component of the kit is given in Annex 1.
The configuration of the assembled system is shown in figures A1.1 of Annex 1.
Assembled systems’ essential construction details are given in Annex 2.

1.2 Intended use

®
Tempio FK-16 is a kit for ventilated external wall cladding.
Some use categories have been adopted to correspond to the degree of exposure to impact in use (see
section 2.4.4).
Regarding ER 3, the Category S/W2 (Product with no direct contact to but possible impact on soil-,
ground- and surface water) applies.
The provisions made in this European technical approval are based on an assumed working life of at
least 25 years for the whole kit. The indications given on the working life cannot be interpreted as a
guarantee given by the producer, but are to be regarded only as a means for choosing the right
products in relation to the expected economically reasonable working life of the works.

1.3 Other components

See section A1.3 of Annex 1.

2 Characteristics of products and methods of verification

®
The assessment of the fitness of Tempio FK-16 kit for the intended use considering the essential
requirements 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6 was performed following the Guideline for European Technical Approval
ETAG 034 for Kits for external wall claddings. Part 1: Ventilated cladding kits comprising cladding
components and associated fixings (edition April 2012), and Part 2: Cladding kits comprising cladding
components, associated fixings, subframe and possible insulation layer (edition April 2012).

2.1 Mechanical resistance and stability (ER 1)

Requirements with respect to the mechanical resistance and stability of non load bearing parts of the
works are not included in this Essential Requirement but are treated under the Essential Requirement
Safety in use (see section 2.4).
Page 4 of 28 of ETA 13/0166, issued on 06.05.2013

2.2 Safety in case of fire (ER 2)

2.2.1 Reaction to fire

The reaction to fire of the whole kit, according to EN 13501-1, is class A1 because all kit components
are class A1 without need of testing according to Decision 96/603/EEC as amended. This is only valid if
the insulation layer placed behind the cladding elements is made of a non combustible material (mineral
wool) or if the layer behind the cladding elements is a mineral substrate like masonry or concrete (class
A1 or A2-s1,d0).
For other end use conditions (for example with insulation layer made of EPS, XPS, PUR, PF as
indicated in section 4.2.1), the reaction to fire of whole kit will be the reaction to fire of the insulation
material to be used with the kit (defined in the corresponding CE marking) or class F (NPD- No
Performance Determined).
Note: A European reference fire scenario has not been laid down for façades. In some Member
States, the classification of external wall cladding kits according to EN 13501-1 might not be
sufficient for the use in façades. An additional assessment of external wall cladding kits
according to national provisions (e.g. on the basis of a large scale test) might be necessary to
comply with Member State regulations, until the existing European classification system has
been completed.

2.2.2 Fire resistance

The fire resistance requirement is applicable to the wall itself (made of masonry, concrete, timber or
metal frame) and not on the cladding kits. The cladding kit alone does not meet any fire resistance
requirements.

2.3 Hygiene, health and the environment (ER 3)

2.3.1 Watertightness of joints (protection against driving rain)

®
Joints in Tempio FK-16 assembled system are open, therefore they are not watertight.

2.3.2 Water permeability of cladding element (resistance to water diffusion)

This performance is not relevant for cladding kits designed with ventilated air space.

2.3.3 Water vapour permeability

This performance is not relevant for cladding kits designed with ventilated air space.

2.3.4 Drainability
On the basis of the essential construction details (see Annex 2), the available technical knowledge and
experience and the installation criteria (see section 4.2.2), it is considered that the water which
penetrates into the air space or the condensation water can be drained out form the cladding without
accumulation or moisture damage or leakage into the substrate.

2.3.5 Release of dangerous substances

This performance has not been determined (NPD).
For dangerous substances falling under the scope of the CPD for which “no performance determined” is
declared there might be the necessity for an additional assessment.
In addition to the specific clauses relating to dangerous substances contained in this European
Technical Approval, there may be other requirements applicable to the products falling within its scope
(e.g. transposed European legislation and national laws, regulations and administrative provisions). In
order to meet the provisions of the EU Construction Products Directive, these requirements need also to
be complied with, when and where they apply.

components (see section 2.4.2) and the wind suction and pressure tests according to the method
indicated in section 5.4.1 of ETAG 034 part 1.
The most critical case has been tested (maximum width of the tile, maximum distance between
horizontal profiles, maximum distance between vertical profiles and maximum distance between
brackets). Besides, it has been used the bracket with the minimum value of characteristic horizontal
load at 1 mm of residual distortion (see table 2.7).
Test results and calculated values for the tested specimen are indicated in table 2.1.
Characteristic values for the worst mechanical composition are indicated in table 2.2.

4 Assumptions under which the fitness of the product(s) for the intended
use was favourably assessed
®
The European Technical Approval is issued for the Tempio FK-16 16 kit on the basis of agreed
data/information deposited with the ITeC, which identifies the products that have been assessed and
®
judged. Changes to the
he Tempio FK-16 16 kit or production processes, which could result in this deposited
data and information being incorrect, should be notified to ITeC before the changes are introduced.
ITeC will decide whether such changes affect the ETA and consequently the validity of the CE marking
on the basis of the ETA and, if so, whether further assessment or alterations to the ETA shall be
necessary.
®
The detailed description and conditions of the manufacturing process of Tempio FK-16 kit components,
®
and all the relevant
ant design and installation criteria of Tempio FK-16
16 kit are specified in the technical
documentation of the manufacturer deposited with the ITeC. The main aspects of this information are
specified in the following chapters.

4.1 Manufacturing
Ceramic tiles are manufactured in the factory by the ETA holder. Besides, the cutting and punching of
profiles and brackets are also carried out in the factory by the ETA holder.
Basic profiles (for horizontal profiles, T vertical profiles and brackets), the drilling screws
sc and ancillary
components (springs and adhesive) are bought on the open market by the ETA holder following the
agreed data/information deposited with the ITeC regarding suppliers, purchasing processes and
supplier production processes.

4.2 Assembly and installation

tallation of the kit in the works
The technical documentation of the ETA holder deposited with the ITeC includes complete measures for
the design and the installation of the kit in the works and the ETA holder has this technical
Page 14 of 28 of ETA 13/0166, issued on 06.05.2013

documentation available for the kit user. This information has been analyzed by ITeC and the main
aspects of this information are specified in the following sections.
The completed building (the works) must comply with the building regulations (regulations on the works)
applicable in the Member States in which the building is to be constructed. The procedures foreseen in
the Member State for demonstrating compliance with the building regulations must also be followed by
the entity held responsible for this act. An ETA for a kit does not amend this process in any way.

4.2.1 Design
®
The design of the external wall cladding system for ventilated façades using the Tempio FK-16 kit
should observe the following criteria:
• The assembled system design must be checked by calculation taking into account the mechanical
characteristic values of kit components (tiles, profiles and brackets) in order to resist the actions
(dead loads, wind loads, etc.) applying on the specific works. National safety factors must be used.
• The design must also accommodate the movements of specified substrate or structural movements
without inducing damage to the assembled system or components.
• The assembled system design should be carried out following the essential construction details
indicated in Annex 2.
• Fixings between brackets and substrate must be chosen according to the substrate material and
minimum resistance required (pull-out and shear resistance) according to the envisaged actions.
Some specifications are given in section A1.3 of Annex 1.
• Because the joints are not watertight, the first layer behind ventilated air space must be composed
2
by materials with low water absorption (≤ 1 kg/m by partial immersion or ≤ 5% by total immersion),
e.g.: insulation layer made of EPS to EN 13163, XPS to EN 13164, PUR to EN13165, phenolic foam
to EN 13166 or mineral wool to EN 13162 (WS or WL(P)).

4.2.2 Installation
The fitness for use of the kits can be assumed only if the installation is carried out according to the
instructions stated in the technical documentation of the ETA holder, in particular taking into account the
following main points:
• The installation of the kit must be carried out in accordance with ETA holder instructions and the
design and drawings prepared for the specific works. It is the responsibility of the ETA holder to
ensure that the information on these provisions is given to those concerned.
• The installation of the kit must be carried out by installation companies and by installation staff which
have been trained and authorized by the ETA holder.
• Special attention is required for the fixing of the brackets on the substrate in order to avoid the spin
of the bracket around the fixing anchor due to vertical load.
• Dimension of joints between tiles must be approximately 8 to 12 mm for horizontal joints and 2 to 3
mm for vertical joints.
• Maximum distance between vertical profiles must be 1000 mm.
• Maximum distance between brackets in the same profile must be 1000 mm.
• The distance between horizontal profiles depends on the ceramic tiles dimensions (see Annex 1).
• Special attention is required for the execution of openings, base edges and roof edges.
• Horizontal profiles must be interrupted in the case of substrate movement joints or structural joints.

4.3 Manufacturer’s responsibilities

It is the manufacturer’s responsibility to make sure that all those who use the kit are appropriately
informed of the specific conditions according to sections 1, 2, 4 and 5, including the annexes to this
ETA.
Page 15 of 28 of ETA 13/0166, issued on 06.05.2013

5 Recommendations

5.1 Recommendations on packaging, transport and storage

Each kit component is packed independently of each other, taking into account the packaging
specifications of each component needs.
The transport and storage of the kit components should be made according to the specifications of the
designed assembled system and the works needs. In all cases, packaging, transport and storage of the
kit components must take into account the specifications indicated in the technical documentation of the
ETA holder deposited with the ITeC.

5.2 Recommendations on use, maintenance and repair

In the information accompanying CE marking, the ETA holder must specify that the kit must be installed
following the installations instructions given by the ETA holder.
It is the responsibility of the ETA holder to ensure that the information on these provisions is given to
those concerned.
Maintenance of the assembled systems or kit components includes inspections on site, taking into
account the following aspects:
• Regarding the tiles: the appearance of any damage such as cracking, detachment, delamination,
mould presence due to permanent moisture or permanent irreversible deformation.
• Regarding metallic components (profiles, brackets and fixings): the presence of corrosion or
presence of water accumulation.
When necessary, any repair to localised damaged areas must be carried out with the same kit
components and following the repair instructions given by the ETA holder.
