Nacida en la India Brit�nica, su padre era el militar James Rutherford-Lumley.
Creci� en Kent y comenz� trabajando como modelo. Hizo su debut cinematogr�fico con
peque�os papeles en la pel�cula Some Girls Do de Ralph Thomas, en 1969 y On Her
Majesty's Secret Service , de Peter R. Hunt. En 1992, con Jennifer Saunders, tuvo
gran �xito con Absolutely Fabulous con el papel de Patsy Stone, con el que gan� un
BAFTA.2?
