WHAT´S THE WEATHER LIKE? (Weather, seasons, present continuous, present simple vs present continuous)
Tropical, Rainy
This segment represents large areas which lie to the North and South of the Equatorial belt around the middle of the
earth. They are characterized by frequent rain and hottest temperatures over 64.4°F. Places like Thailand and Brazil would
be considered tropical.
Tropical, Rainy
considerados tropical.
Dry
These areas are characterized more by precipitation than by raw temperature. An area that loses more moisture to
evaporation than it receives in rain would be considered dry. These areas tend to have very high temperatures and are
generally located along the Equator. Much of Africa and the Middle East falls into this category.
Seco
Mild, Humid
These are the largest sections. They are characterized by temperatures that generally stay below 64°F but do not go
below 26.6°F. Much of the United States and Europe fall in these areas.
Snowy, Forest
The colder parts of Europe, Asia, The Americas and Australia fall into the category where their cold temperatures
venture below 26.6°F and their highs rarely go above 50°F.
Snowy, Bosque
Polar
These are the coldest areas and would include much of Canada, Alaska, the Arctic and Antarctica. The Polar regions
never see a day above 50°.
Polar
Spring Primavera
Summer Verano
Autum/Fall Otoño
Winter Invierno
Remember:
- In positive we use two conjugations. One is the simple form and the other is the “s” form (play / plays)(En afirmativo
- In negative sentences we use the auxiliaries don’t and doesn’t and the verb is ALWAYS in the simple form. (She doesn’t
trabaja)
- In the question form we use auxiliaries do and does and also the verb goes in the simple form. The subject goes in
between the auxiliary and the verb. (Do you work here?) (En laspreguntas empleamos auxiliaries do y does y el verbo
Present continuous
– Maria is playing tennis.
– She isn’t studying.
– What are they doing?
Remember:
- When we construct the present continuous we use the verb to be. Therefore we DO NOT USE auxiliaries do, does,
don’t or doesn’t. (Cuando construimos el presente continuo empleamos el verbo to be, por consiguiente no
utilizamos auxiliar do, don´t, does o doesn´t)
- Use the “ing” form after the verb to be. (utilizamos ing después del verbo to be)
