DEPARTAMENTALIZACION

DEPARTMENTALIZATION
The following essay aims to deepen and express our point of view about
departmentalization, which personally is of great importance in a company to carry out any
activity satisfactorily and effectively.
The departmentalization is useful to classify the main functions of the company, the
responsibilities and obligations that each person has.
And as she commented, this helps us to identify in which hierarchical level the position in
which you are working is, as well as helping you to know who is above you and who may be
your subordinates.
They have to assign and schedule tasks appropriate to the area in which they are to carry
out an end.
From literature this term is expressed as the action of organizing business activity by
departments.
Department is a specific area, division or branch of the company where different functions
and tasks are grouped by the persons assigned to it and in which a person performs
managerial tasks and exercises his authority. Departmentalization is the activity of
formalizing the distribution of work in departments in order to coordinate their relationships.
The department is an immediate consequence of the division of labor and the grouping of
functions and activities into specific units, based on their similarity. When departmentalizing,
it is convenient to observe the following sequence:
• Classify them.
• Specify the relationships of authority, responsibility, and obligation between functions and
positions.
• The size, existence and type of organization of a department should be related to the size
and specific needs of the company and the functions involved. Its classification is very broad
within a company, the departmentalization in a well-constituted organization goes from
functions to equipment or products. Due to the above it is important to take into account the
advantages and disadvantages that each of these divisions can present.
This type of departmentalization consists of grouping the activities and tasks according to
the main functions developed in the company taking into account that every company or
organization has as its main functions first the production, second sell and third finances,
that is to say, a promoter or a seller who is logically must be in the area of sale can not
exercise their functions in the administration for the simple reason that this first lack of
knowledge about that part of the company would impede the normal flow of the organization
so it is much more productive than the sectorization of the company are by related areas,
which in case of any contingency these are shaking hands with each other. In short, this
distribution is the cornerstone of any company. As usual, this classification has its pros and
cons which will be shown below.
Advantage
Disadvantages:
· It is not adequate when technology and external circumstances are changing and
unpredictable.
This other type of departmentalization consists of grouping the activities with respect to the
area where the work will be executed or the market area that the company will cover. The
main characteristic of this type of departmentalization is that it is used by companies that
cover large geographical areas and whose markets are extensive. A clear example of this
is the company Bayer is a pharmaceutical company of German origin however it has a sole
proprietorship but it is not responsible for the production only of the packaging and
distribution, that is to say that if some information is needed by the process of the reactor or
the conditions of pressure and temperature to be carried out this will have to go directly to
plant that is in Colombia, this in words more words less indicates that it is much more
complicated coordination and control of the direction which leads to its time that who pays
for the broken dishes of any inconvenience is the manager of that headquarters.
Advantage:
Disadvantages:
Departmentalization by clientele
It is based on the differentiation and grouping of activities according to the type of people or
persons for whom the work is carried out.
Its main characteristic is that it is fundamentally concerned with the client or consumer, since
it divides the organizational units so that it can serve a specific client. An example of this are
the companies dedicated to the sale of clothes such as: zara, classic jeans etc, which are
organized in such a way that their production is directed to different types of bodies, genders
and ages with the purpose that the client does not go to another place and can buy for the
whole family.
Advantage:
· Motivates all staff and all executives and entrepreneurs to work for the client.
Disadvantages:
· Needs trained staff and experts in customer problems. Personally, I do not agree with the
fact that even at the beginning if it affects the company's pocket, in the end it is all profit
because a satisfied customer is proportional to more customers, which represents much
more demand for money.
· The other activities of the organization (production, finance, etc.) take second place.
Advantage:
· Economic advantages are obtained, derived from the very nature of the equipment or
technology.
Disadvantages:
Departmentalization by products
It is based on the grouping of activities according to the products and results offered by the
company. Its main characteristic is that it requires a flexible and changing organizational
structure, and this strategy is used in large and large companies. Difference of the
departmentalization of functions is within the same group employees whose areas are not
related but together with able to carry out the realization of said product. An example of this
can be seen in a company like PQP, which is responsible for developing various flocculants
CRISSANGIE VASCO, JESSICA JOYA
for water treatment, as well as detergent and nutritional solutions at the agroindustrial level,
that is, it is a company that handles a large number of products. For her, this type of
classification is essential to make the work perform.
Advantage:
Disadvantages:
From all the above you can reach the conclusion that departmentalization is the best thing
that could be invented by a man within a company for the simple reason that makes the
work more appropriate, effective and fast, each employee is paid for their position
established within a manual of functions, not like a few decades ago where the detodito was
for the same money, does not generate conflicts within the organization due to lack of
capacity of some official, fatigue or fatigue is avoided by the same because each one of
them has their work well segmented and the top managers get their job a company with high
levels of production and profits.
