EL ESTADO DE PLASMA

El plasma es por mucho la forma más común de la materia.


El plasma en las estrellas y en el espacio constituyen más de 99% del universo
visible y quizás la mayoría de lo que no es visible.

El plasma consiste en una colección de electrones de libre movimiento


e iones de átomos que han perdido electrones.
Se necesita energía para despojar electrones de los átomos y hacer plasma. La
energia puede ser de varios origenes : térmica, eléctrica, o luz (ultravioleta
o la intensa luz visible de un láser).

El plasma puede acelerarse y ser dirigido por campos eléctricos y magnéticos que
permiten controlarlo y aplicarlo. La investigación del plasma está rindiendo una
comprensión mayor del universo..

También proporciona muchos usos prácticos: nuevas técnicas industriales,


productos para el consumidor, y la perspectiva de energía abundante.

El elemento central en una luz fluorescente es el Plasma, un gas compuesto de
iones con libre movimiento (átomos cargados eléctricamente) y electrones
(partículas cargadas negativamente).
Bajo condiciones normales un gas se compone principalmente de partículas no
cargadas. Esto significa que cada átomo de gas incluye igual número de
protones (partículas positivamente cargadas en el núcleo del átomo) y
electrones. Los electrones negativamente cargados equilibran perfectamente a
los protones positivamente cargados, así que el átomo tiene una carga neta de
cero.
Si se introducen muchos electrones libres en el gas por medio de un voltaje
eléctrico a través de él, la situación cambia muy rápidamente. Los electrones
libres chocan con los átomos, al golpearlos liberán otros electrones. Con un
electrón perdido, un átomo pierde su equilibrio, Ahora tiene una carga neta
positiva, convirtiendolo en un ion positivo.
En un plasma con una corriente eléctrica que lo atraviesa, las partículas
negativamente cargadas están apresurándose hacia el área positiva del
plasma, y las partículas positivamente cargadas están apresurándose
hacia el área negativa.

Las partículas están chocando constantemente entre ellas. Estas colisiones


excitan los átomos de gas en el plasma, originando la liberación de fotones
de energía.

LA CELDA DE PLASMA

En su forma más simple, una celda de Plasma consiste en dos placas de vidrio
separadas por un espacio lleno de gas. El color es dependiente de la mezcla del
gas. En las caras Internas de las placas estan dos electrodos transparentes
fijos horizontal y verticalmente cubiertos por una capa delgada de vidrio aislante.

Los electrodos se conectan a una fuente de poder, esta fuente genera corriente
alterna al modelo de carga. La dirección positiva ( + ) (no el lado cargado
positivamente) es mostrado en la figura y la dirección negativa es la designada
por el signo negativo ( - ).

•La fuente de poder genera un Voltaje de Sostenimiento (Vs – sustain voltage)
igual a medio Voltaje de Encendido (1/2Vf - firing voltage ) para la mezcla gas.

•Para encender la celda es necesario una Señal de Encendido (Vfs - firing signal
voltage) igual tambien a 1/2 Vf.

•Una vez que esto ocurre las dos cantidades se suman ( Vs + Vfs = Vf ) y se
enciende el gas.

•Esto es solo la medio ciclo.

•Vfs se desconecta y Vs se pone en cero (0) por un instante y sólo hay un voltaje
en el interior de la celda (V1) qué es igual a 1/2 Vf en ese instante y ningún voltaje
externo (Vs), cuando el generador cambia de d irección hay una cantidad de
electrones y carga positiva en el interior de la celda (V1).

•Al sumar los voltajes V1+Vs obtenemos Vf nuevamnete y la celda se enciede.

•Vfs firing signal voltage : es solo necesario para iniciar el encendido

•Cambiar el voltaje (Vs) de las paredes de cristal mantiene encendida la celda

EL PDP es la última tecnología de pantallas y la mejor manera de lograr


imagenes con calidad excelente y los tamaños grandes visibles en cualquier
ambiente.

El PDP puede verse como un descendiente de la lámpara de neón y también


ha sido sido modelado como una serie de lámparas fluorescentes. PDP es una
serie de celdas conocidas como pixeles que estan compuestas de 3 sub-
pixeles, correspondiendo a los colores rojo, verde, y azul.

El Gas en un estado de plasma se usa para reaccionar con Fósforo en


cada uno de los sub-pixeles para producir luz de color.

Estos Fósforos son del mismo tipo que los usados en el “CRT” para los
dispositivos como televisiones y monitores de computadora. Usted obtiene los
colores vivos y dinámicos que espera. Cada sub-pixel es controlado
individualmente por electrónica avanzada para producir más de 16 millones de
colores diferentes. Todos esto significa que usted consigue imágenes
perfectas que son fácilmente visibles en una pantalla que tiene menos de 5
pulgadas de grueso.

Los electrodos transparentes estan rodeados por un material dielectrico y son
cubiertos por una capa protectora de óxido de magnesio, estan montados sobre
la celda a lo largo de la placa frontal de vidrio.

Los electrodos para despliege de imagen se colocan en filas horizontales a lo


largo de la pantalla y los electrodos de dirección se colocan en columnas vertical
es, los electrodos verticales y horizontales forman una reja básica (matriz).

Para ionizar el gas en una celda particular, el ordenador de la pantalla carga los
electrodos que se cruzan en esa celda, esto lo hace miles de veces en un pequeño
fragmento de segundo, cargando cada celda a la vez.

Los fotones ultravioletas liberados interactúan con el material de fósforo que recubre
la pared interior de la celda. El fósforo es substancia que emite luz cuando se
le expone a otra luz. Cuando un fotón ultravioleta golpea a un átomo del fósforo en
la celda, uno de los electrones de fósforo salta a un nivel de energía más alto y
el átomo se calienta, cuando el electrón regresa a su nivel normal, suelta energía
en forma de fotón visible.

Variando los pulsos de corriente a través de las diferentes celdas, el sistema de


control puede aumentar o disminuir la intensidad de cada subpixel de color para
crear centenares de combinaciones diferentes de rojo, verde y azul.
