FUNDAMENTACIÓN

El idioma inglés en la actualidad es una herramienta fundamental para los profesionales que se
desempeñan en empresas industriales y comerciales, en posiciones de nivel intermedio, de apoyo
y/o asistencia a la alta gerencia que requiere de un profesional medio técnicamente calificado en
el manejo del inglés. Dentro de este contexto el manejo de la habilidad para escribir
correctamente el idioma constituye un elemento relevante a desarrollar.

OBJETIVO TERMINAL

La asignatura Fundamentos del Inglés Escrito está dirigida a:


 Desarrollar en el futuro profesional de inglés, habilidades y destrezas básicas para escribir
correctamente en el idioma inglés mediante la práctica de la expresión de ideas y
pensamientos a través de la construcción de oraciones correctamente estructuradas.

SINOPSIS DE CONTENIDO

Orden de las palabras, sujetos, verbos y frases preposicionales, preposiciones, objeto directo e
indirecto, fragmentos de expresiones, oraciones simples y compuestas, vocabulario y signos de
puntuación, formas verbales afirmativas: presente, pasado y futuro.

FUNDAMENTALS OF WRITTEN ENGLISH

PURPOSE

The purpose of this class is to develop the necessary skills used in writing proper English.
Along with the affirmative verb forms, many areas in sentence structure will be given emphasis
that will help the students express their ideas and thoughts in a proper written structure.

CONTENT
Word order, subject, verb and prepositional phrases, prepositions, direct and indirect objects,
sentence fragments, compound sentences, punctuation and vocabulary. Affirmative verbs forms:
present, past and future.

ACTIVITIES

Reading and Writing. Being able to understand and give feedback; Papers –Homework -Short
writing, Journals, Letters; Rewriting in different tenses; Proofreading.

Marjorie Fuchs, Miriam Westheimer with Margaret Bonner.

Evaluation Plan
Composition (15%). At the beginning of the semester each student will be given a specific topic
which they will have to write on and later read to the class.
Quizzes (15%). The quizzes will cover the specific grammar points.
Test (30%). One test given after the first 8 weeks covering the first half of the class. Another
exam will be given after the second 8 weeks covering the second half of the class.
Written assignments (40%). The written assignments will vary. If I am able to give 1 each
week, they will be worth 0.5 pts a piece. If circumstances don’t allow I may give a writing
assignment the next week worth 1 point.
