THE SACRED RIVER

The river Ganges starts in west India and travels through

the north into Bangladesh. It isnt very long: 2,520km. The
Nile and the Amazon are longer, but the Ganges is very
important to the people in India. 400 million people live
near this river. It gives them food and water to use for
washing their clothes or having a bath. There are more than
100 different types of fish swimming in these waters and
also sharks and dolphins! The Ganges today is very dirty
and the sharks and dolphins are endangered. People are in
danger, too, because they also drink from the river. Luckily,
there are people trying to clean the river and protect it.

El ro sagrado
El ro Ganges comienza en el oeste de la India y viaja a
travs del norte en Bangladesh. No es muy largo: 2.520
kilometros. El Nilo y el Amazonas son ms largos, pero el
Ganges es muy importante para las personas en la India.
400 millones de personas viven cerca de este ro. Se les da
comida y agua a utilizar para el lavado de la ropa o tomar
un bao. Hay ms de 100 tipos diferentes de peces que
nadan en estas aguas y tambin los tiburones y los
delfines! El Ganges hoy en da es muy sucio y los tiburones
y los delfines estn en peligro de extincin. La gente est
en peligro, tambin, porque tambin beben del ro.
Afortunadamente, hay personas que tratan de limpiar el ro
y protegerla.
