SCALE SETS
All the chords of any song in this songbook can be found in one of the following five scale sets. (a scale set
will show you a fixed combination of chords to play any song)
Below the title of every song is the songs main chord shown in brackets. It could be a major chord, i.e. [C] or
minor chord, i.e. [A-].
Find it in the chart below in the MINOR or MAJOR row and you will have found the scale for that song.
For example if your songs main chord shows [A-] then it is Scale set 1. If it shows [G] it is Scale set 4.
You can change to any Scale set combination to better suit your vocal range.
For example if you are singing Mother of my heart in [G], then you are using chords G, D and C. as shown
in Scale 4. You can transpose them to Scale 5 for a higher tone using the corresponding chords A, E and D
or to Scale 2 for a lower voice and use D, A and G.
It can also help you to choose the possible chord combinations for composing a song or just jamming in any
scale set.
acorde mayor, i.e. [C] o un acorde menor, i.e. [A-].

rhythm / beat of the song 8 beats.

Diego Palma (Barquisimeto, Mar 2010)

BECOME THE LIGHT YOU ARE
Bliss
[Capo V / A- / 6]
Say goodbye to all you see, to all you see with these eyes.
Say goodbye to all youve been, to all your needs and desires.
Fly above the silent ocean into the purest star.
Feel your heart begin to break, become the light you are.
Say goodbye to all you see, to all youve been in this light.
Take your place and dance the dance and leave this world behind.
Fly up high the proudest eagle the true king of our skies.
Feel the chains begin to break become the light... you are.
... you are
become the light you are

A butterfly
A butterfly with a huge hole in one wing lands upon my finger
one does not have to be whole to can fly

On the shores of a mystical ocean
there lies a cave with a magical door
all are welcome but those who enter
never shall return not a single day more.

_Sew a seed unto the earth she will yield you a flower.

SHAKE A RATTLE
Murray Kyle
[Capo II / G / 8]
My bones they are your bones and my feet they are your walk
your water flows within this feelings that you can talk
we are all instruments if we tune to the now
and it is your song that we welcome , and allow.
So come tell your story for the farthest one to hear
The story is, into the all we disappear
cause were moving on the soundwaves, becoming a song
we know the storys been inside us all along
and so, we shake a rattle to tell it once again
to gather all the children and to tell of a time when
the people lived with power, that could not be bought nor sold.
They lived within the wheel as the seasons did unfold
stepping with soft footsteps on the third stone from the sun
to the highest mountain the men, the women, all would run and
dance, the mystic spiral, to each moment they would die
merging with the mystic shaking a rattle (oyo, oyo, oyo.)
shaking a rattle at the sky
Singing odinayia, ahehh (x2)

MANTRAS
ASATO MAA MANTRA
Veda Invocation, Sanskrit mantra from the Upanishads
ASATO MAA SADGAMAYA
TAMASO MAA JYOTIR GAMAYA
MRITYOR MAA AMRITAM GAMAYA
O, Lord please lead me from the unreal to the real.
Lead me from darkness to light (i.e. from ignorance to knowledge).
Lead me from death to immortality.
May there be peace, peace and perfect peace.
This is perhaps one of the most profound Vedic mantras ever. What this chant is asking for is the Highest of
the Highest. It is a mantra which is implying that the seeker understands finally that there is no peace or
happiness in anything material. That anything material will forever be transient and will forever bring
suffering. Understanding this, the seeker chants this mantra and asks only for Truth, Truth and Truth.
Above in the meanings, the implications are as follows. In asking for deliverance from "Asat", the seeker is
asking for deliverance from Maya, duality or the dream world. The seeker is saying, I feel this reality is not
the Truth, please awaken me to the Absolute Truth (Sat). The seeker is aiming for God Realization.
Similarly, in the second line, the seeker is asking to be delivered form darkness (Tamaso), meaning
ignorance, to light (Jyotir), meaning awakening. Again, the seeker, understanding that what is most
important in life, is awakening to the Truth, asks for nothing material, but asks for Enlightenment and True
Knowledge instead.
In the third line, the seeker is not asking for eternal life or immortality. The seeker is asking for Self
Realization. The seeker is asking to be awakened to his Infinite, Timeless, Un-born and Eternal nature. The
seeker is requesting to be awakened to his True Nature, to who he truly is, and that awakening to the eternal
Self is the freedom from time and death which he is seeking.

GAYATRI MANTRA
Among all the mantras, the Gayatri mantra is called the essence
of all mantras. All spiritual powers and potencies are contained
hidden within it. The Gayatri is meditation on spiritual light. It is
practiced by Hindus and Buddhists alike. This mantra is for the
purpose of enlightening the intellect.
By unwrapping the power of this mantra, one can sit in meditation
and commune with celestial beings, sages, saints, masters, Maha
Sidhas and Rinpoches in the higher realms. Because of its ability
to bring into the subtle body keys to tuning ones consciousness
to the higher realms, the Gayatri is called a Master Mantra.
Pictures of Gayatri show her with five heads, Lakshmi (the
primordial power of manifestation), Saraswati (the power of
knowledge and divinely empowered speech), Durga (the power of
protection), Radha (the power of ecstatic bliss), and Bhu Devi
(the power of the Earth).
We meditate on the most sublime light of divinity,
that which is the source of eternal Bliss beyond measure.
May this light illumine our awareness and dispel all darkness.

MAHAMRITYUNJAYA MANTRA
Om. We worship The Three-Eyed Lord Shiva who is fragrant and who
increasingly nourishes the devotees. Worshipping him may we be
liberated from death for the sake of immortality just as the ripe
cucumber easily separates itself from the binding stalk.
"O Omniscient Divinity, we adore you. O Lord full of excellent fragrance,
you are the nourished, the sustainer of all life. As the cucumber is freed
from the stem, thus liberate us from death and grant us the nectar of
Immortality."
TRYAMBAKKAM refers to the Three eyes of Lord Shiva. Trya means
Three and Ambakam means eyes. These three eyes or sources of
enlightenment are the Trimurti or three primary deities, namely Brahma,
Vishnu and Shiva and the three AMBA (also meaning Mother or
Shakti are Saraswati, Lakshmi and Gouri. Thus in this word, we are
referring to God as Omniscient (Brahma), Omnipresent (Vishnu) and
Omnipotent (Shiva). This is the wisdom of Brihaspati and is referred to
as Sri Duttatreya having three heads of Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva.
YAJAMAHE means, We sing Thy praise".
SUGANDHIM refers to His fragrance (of knowledge, presence and strength i.e. three aspects) as being the
best and always spreading around. Fragrance refers to the joy that we get on knowing, seeing or feeling His
virtuous deeds.
PUSHTIVARDHANAM: Pooshan refers to Him as the sustainer of this world and in this manner, He is the
Father (Pater) of all. Pooshan is also the inner impeller of all knowledge and is thus Savitur or the Sun and
also symbolizes Brahma the Omniscient Creator. In this manner He is also the Father (Genitor) of all.
URVAARUKIMIVA: URVA means VISHAL or big and powerful or deadly. ARUKAM means Disease.
Thus URVARUKA means deadly and overpowering diseases. (The CUCUMBER interpretation given in
various places is also correct for the word URVARUKAM, but not apt for this mantra). The diseases are also
of three kinds caused by the influence (in the negative) of the three Gunas and are ignorance (Avidya etc),
falsehood (Asat etc as even though Vishnu is everywhere, we fail to perceive Him and are guided by our
sight and other senses) and weaknesses (Shadripu etc. a constraint of this physical body and Shiva is all
powerful).
BANDHANAATH means bound down. Thus read with URVAROOKIMIVA, it means I am bound down by
deadly and overpowering diseases.
MRITYOR MUKSHIIYA means to deliver us from death (both premature death in this Physical world and
from the neverending cycle of deaths due to re-birth) for the sake of Mokshya (Nirvana or final emancipation
from re-birth).
MAAMRITAT means please give me some Amritam (life rejuvinating nectar). Read with the previous word, it
means that we are praying for some Amrit to get out of the death inflicting diseases as well as the cycle of
re-birth.

MOOLA MANTRA
The Mantra is like calling a name. Just like when you call a person he comes and makes you feel his
presence, the same manner when you chant this mantra, the supreme energy manifests everywhere around
you. As the Universe is Omnipresent, the supreme energy can manifest anywhere and any time. It is also
very important to know that the invocation with all humility, respect and with great necessity makes the
presence stronger.
OM:The Supreme word is OM. If you are meditating in silence deeply, you can hear the sound OM within.
The whole creation emerged from the sound OM. It is the primordial sound or the Universal sound by which
the whole universe vibrates.
SAT means, all penetrating existence that is formless, shapeless, omnipresent, attribute less, and quality
less aspect of the Universe. It is the Un manifest. It is experienced as emptiness of the Universe. We could
say it is the body of the Universe that is static. Every thing that has a form and that can be sensed, evolved
out of this Un manifest. It is so subtle that it is beyond all perceptions. It can only be seen when it has
become gross and has taken form. We are in the Universe and the Universe is in us. We are the effect and
Universe is the cause and the cause manifests itself as the effect.
CHIT is the Pure Consciousness of the Universe that is infinite, omni-present manifesting power of the
Universe. Out of this is evolved everything that we call Dynamic energy or force. It can manifest in any form
or shape. It is the consciousness manifesting as motion, as gravitation, as magnetism, etc. It is also
manifesting as the actions of the body, as thought force. It is the Supreme Spirit.
ANANDA means bliss, love and friendship nature of the Universe. When you experience either the Supreme
Energy in this Creation (SAT) and become one with the Existence or experience the aspect of Pure
Consciousness (CHIT), you enter into a state of Divine Bliss and eternal happiness (ANANDA). This is the
primordial characteristic of the Universe, which is the greatest and most profound state of ecstasy that you
can ever experience when you relate with your higher Consciousness.
PARABRAHMA is the Supreme Being in his Absolute aspect; one who is beyond space and time. It is the
essence of the Universe that is with form and without form. It is the Supreme creator.
PURUSHOTHAMA has got different meanings. Purusha means soul and Uthama means the supreme; the
Supreme spirit. It also means the supreme energy of force guiding us from the highest world. Purusha also
means Man, and PURUSHOTHAMA is the energy that incarnates as an Avatar to help and guide Mankind
and relate closely to the beloved Creation.
PARAMATMA means the supreme inner energy that is immanent in every creature and in all beings, living
and non-living. It's the indweller or the Antaryamin who resides formless or in any form desired. It's the force
that can come to you whenever you want and wherever you want to guide and help you.
SRI BHAGAVATI is the female aspect, which is characterized as the Supreme Intelligence in action, the
Power (The Shakti). It is referred to the Mother Earth (Divine Mother) aspect of the creation.
SAMETHA means together or in communion with.
SRI BHAGAVTE is the Male aspect of the Creation, which is unchangeable and permanent.
NAMAHA is salutations or prostrations to the Universe that is OM and also has the qualities of SAT-CHITANANDA, that is omnipresent, unchangeable and changeable at the same time, the supreme spirit in a
human form and formless, the indweller that can guide and help in the feminine and masculine forms with
the supreme intelligence. I seek your presence and guidance all the time.

PURNAMADAH MANTRA
The Purnamadah Mantra is the opening prayer of the Brihadaranyaka Upanishad.
That is whole; this is whole;
From that whole this whole came;
From that whole, when this whole removed,
What remains is whole.
PurNam, the single noun in the verse, is a beautiful Sanskrit word which
means completely filled - a filledness which (in its Vedic scriptural
sense) is wholeness itself, absolute fullness lacking nothing whatsoever.
Adah, which means that, and idam, which means this, are two
pronouns each of which, at the same time, refers to the single noun,
pUrNam: PUrNam adah - completeness is that, PUrNam idam completeness is this.
Adah, that, is always used to refer to something remote from the
speaker in time, place or understanding, something which, at the time in
question, is not available for direct knowledge.
Idam, this, refers to something not remote but present, here and now,
immediately available for perception, something directly known or
knowable. Thus it can be said that adah refers to the unknown, the unknown in the sense of the not-directly
known due to remoteness, and idam refers to the immediately perceivable known. In other words, idam
stands for all things capable of being known as objects. So when the verse says pUrNam idam,
"completeness is this", what is being said is that all that one knows or is able to know is pUrNam.
PurNam, completeness, absolute fullness, must necessarily be formless. PurNam cannot have a form
because it has to include everything. Any kind of form means some kind of boundary; any kind of boundary
means that something is left out - something is on the other side of the boundary. Absolute completeness
requires formlessness.

GANESHA
When things are not in your favor, or when the minds of the people
turn negative, depressed or discouraged, the attention of Ganesha
may be drawn by this mantra to straighten their ways. The HUM
symbolizes "Delay no more, my Lord, in straightening the paths of the
crooked-minded ones."
When we call upon Ganesha, the beloved elephant-faced God, we
invoke his desire to remove all obstacles, large or small, internal or
external, that may hinder our paths.

SHIVA
Shiva means Auspicious One
He is described as the one who is completely pure, untainted by the
world of form and temptations, uttering his name can bring salvation
from the cycle of reincarnation.
He is one of the three Gods of the Hindu trinity: Brahman, Vishnu and
Shiva.
Shiva is responsible for the creation and desolution of the universe.
He is the eternal yogi, blissfully unaffected by maya (illusion).
He destroys our attachments and delusions and brings our liberation.
Shiva is often depicted with a third eye with which he burned Desire
(Kma) to ashes.

OM NAMAH SHIVAYA
Darbari Raga [II / A- / 6]
Diego Palma (Thailand, Jun 2010)
Pisaq singing circle (Pisaq, Sep 30, 2012)
Namah means bowing to the divine. Shivaya is the force of the divine that sweeps away the negative and
renew the spirit. I bow to the inner self or I honor the God inside myself and in all things.
Om Namah Shivaya significa "Me

MATA DURGA
Krishna Das [III / G / 8]
Mata (Mother) Durga symbolizes the power of the Supreme Being
that maintains moral order and righteousness in the universe.
Worship of the goddess Shakti is very popular among the Hindus.
Durga stands for the unified symbol of all divine forces (Shaktis).
Goddess Durga is the divine mother, who protects people from evil
forces of selfishness, jealousy, hatred, anger and ego. Mother's love
and her kindness towards her child, is the best example of pure love
in this whole universe.

Thou art the auspicious Shiva (Shakti aspect, spouse of Shiva), the bountiful; I prostrate myself at Thy feet.
O Triyambaks (Three eyed one), Gauri (Parvati) Naraayani (exposer of consciousness) Namostute (we bow
to you)
This prayer is to Goddess Parvati (Gauri, Durga, the consort of Lord Shiva, and worshipped as Shakti.) If we
pray to Goddess Parvati, who is Auspicious, Mercy and Bliss, then she bestows upon us such strength that
helps us to escape the delusion and to get liberation.
This hymn is addressed by every hindu during every possible marriage ceremony because Parvati is the
goddess of fertility and marriage.

BUTTERFLY WOMAN
Darpan
Milagros Casaverde (Pisaq, Jun 2011)
Butterfly woman will you come to me now when my hands and my heart are wide open
Butterfly woman will you take me away, to the fields were the butterflies play.
In fields of flowers well play for hours, games that are not so important
spending our days in a glorious haze as we flutter from blossom to blossom.
Butterfly woman i know you in my dreams we have met before
Butterfly woman please come to me now, when i knock will you open the door.
Oh lady of light in your delicate flight lift me about of my body
Wrapped in your wings in the whispering wind I will come to know what is godly. (bis)
Butterfly woman i know you in my dreams we have met before
Butterfly woman please come to me now when I knock will you open the door.
Butterfly woman will you come to me now when my hands and my heart are wide open
Butterfly woman will you take me away, to the fields were the butterflies play.
In fields of flowers well play for hours, games that are not so important
spending our days in a glorious haze as we flutter from blossom to blossom.
Butterfly woman, butterfly woman.

ISHQ ALLAH MAHBUD LILLAH
Milagros Casaverde (Pisaq, Jun 2011)
The Sufis say that the reason of the whole creation is that the perfect Being wished to know Himself, and did
so by awakening the love of His nature and creating out of it His object of love, which is beauty. Dervishes,
with this meaning, salute each other by saying, 'Ishq Allah Ma'bud Allah' 'God is love, lover and beloved'.
