El nuevo Patrn de Crecimiento Infantil de la OMS (2006) confirma que todos los nios, nacidos en cualquier parte del

mundo, que reciban una atencin ptima desde el comienzo de sus vidas, tienen el potencial de desarrollarse en la misma gama de tallas y pesos. Por supuesto, existen diferencias individuales entre los nios, pero a nivel regional y mundial la media de crecimiento de la poblacin es notablemente similar. El nuevo patrn demuestra que las diferencias en el crecimiento infantil hasta los cinco aos dependen ms de la nutricin, las prcticas de alimentacin, el medio ambiente y la atencin sanitaria que de los factores genticos o tnicos.
