In qual parte del ciel, in quale idea
era l’essempio, onde Natura tolse
quel bel viso leggiadro, in ch’ella volse
mostrar qua giú quanto lassú potea?
Qual nimpha in fonti, in selve mai qual dea,
chiome d’oro sí fino a l’aura sciolse?
quando un cor tante in sé vertuti accolse?
benché la somma è di mia morte rea.
Per divina bellezza indarno mira,
chi gli occhi de costei già mai non vide,
come soavemente ella gli gira;
non sa come Amor sana, et come ancide,
chi non sa come dolce ella sospira,
et come dolce parla, et dolce ride.
¿En qué región del cielo, en qué idea
halló Dios el patrón del que, preciso
cortó a medida el gesto en el que quiso
que cuanto en el cielo puede, aquí se vea?
¿Qué ninfa en la fuente, en las selvas o qué diosa
que tan fino oro diese así diviso?
¿Cuándo de tal virtud dio un pecho viso,
por más que culpa de mi muerte sea?
En vano por beldad divina mira
quien nunca una mirada a ella envíe,
cuando ella suavemente hasta él se gira;
no sabe cómo humilla Amor y engríe
quien no sabe cuán dulce ella suspira,
cuán dulce habla, cuán dulce ella sonríe.

¡Tigre! ¡Tigre! Fulgor ardiente
en los bosques de la noche;
¿qué ojo o mano inmortal
pudo diseñar tu temible simetría?
¿En qué distantes abismos o cielos
ardió el fuego de tus ojos?
¿Con qué alas se atrevió a elevarse?
¿Qué mano se atrevió a tomar ese fuego?
¿Y qué hombro, y qué arte
fue capaza de urdir las fibras de tu corazón?
Y cuando tu corazón comenzó a latir,
¿qué mano terrible?, ¿ qué terribles pies?
¿Quél martillo?, ¿qué cadena?
¿En qué horno estuvo tu cerebro?
¿Qué yunque? ¿Qué terrible agarre
se atrevió a abracar sus terrores mortales?
Cuando las estrellas lanzaron sus dardos,
e inundaron los cielos con sus lágrimas,
¿ sonrió él al contemplar su obra?
Quien creó el Cordero ¿te creó a ti?
¡Tigre! ¡Tigre! Fulgor ardiente
