Las ideas econmicas formaban parte de las enseanzas morales del cristianismo. Pero sin embargo, el dogma cristiano no result suficiente. El mundo medieval no poda renunciar a la naturaleza tica de sus doctrinas sin perder su razn de ser espiritual; pero, puesto que sus races tambin se hundan en las condiciones econmicas de la sociedad feudal, combino las enseanzas de los Evangelios y de los primeros Padres de la Iglesia con las de Aristteles, el filsofo que haba atemperado sus opiniones realistas sobre el proceso econmico con postulados ticos.

 It also explains why the resulting economic doctrines that claim was not inappropriate for the conditions of that time. Economic ideas were part of the moral teachings of Christianity. But nevertheless, Christian dogma was not enough. The medieval world could not abandon the ethical nature of their doctrines without losing its spiritual being, but also because their roots are sunk in economic conditions of feudal society, combine the teachings of the Gospels and the early Fathers of the Church with those of Aristotle, the philosopher who had tempered his views on the economic process realistic with ethical postulates.

 En todas las discusiones cannicas sobre instituciones y prcticas econmicas, encontramos la unin de la tica econmica, que haba formado parte de la misin espiritual del cristianismo, y las instituciones existentes con todas sus imperfecciones. Muchas veces esta unin no era slida, pero no se rompi hasta que las instituciones empezaron a desmoronarse bajo la presin de las fuerzas econmicas nuevas. Encontramos la unin de la tica econmica, que haba formado parte de la misin espiritual del cristianismo y las instituciones existentes con todas sus imperfecciones.

 Muchas veces esta unin no era slida, pero no se rompi hasta que las instituciones empezaron a desmoronarse bajo la presin de fuerzas econmicas nuevas. Los canonistas aceptaron la distincin aristotlica entre la economa natural del hogar y la antinatural de la ciencia del abastecimiento, o sea el arte de ganar dinero. La economa es, para ellos, un cuerpo de leyes, no en el sentido de leyes cientficas, sino en el de preceptos morales encaminados a conseguir la buena administracin de la actividad econmica. La parte de la economa que en la prctica era muy parecida a la que haba expuesto Aristteles, se apoyaba en una base de teologa cristiana. sta condenaba la avaricia y la codicia y subordinaba el mejoramiento material del individuo a los derechos de sus semejantes, hermanos en Cristo, y a las necesidades de la salvacin en el otro mundo.

 Many times the union was not solid, but did not break until institutions began to crumble under the pressure of new economic forces. The canonists accepted the Aristotelian distinction between natural economy of the home and the unnatural supply of science, or art of making money. The economy is, for them, a body of laws, not in the sense of scientific laws, but in the moral precepts designed to get the good administration of economic activity. The part of the economy which in practice was very similar to what Aristotle had stated, rested on a foundation of Christian theology. It condemned the greed and avarice and material improvement subordinated the individual to the rights of their fellow brothers in Christ, and the needs of salvation in the afterlife.
