Esta teoría fue anunciada por Adam Smith (1723-1790); postuló que bajo libre
cambio, cada nación debe especializarse en producir esas mercancías que podrían ser
lo más eficientemente posible.

Algunos de éstos serían exportados a la paga para las importaciones de las mercancías
que se podrían producir más eficientemente a otra parte.

absoluta, medida ésta por el menor coste medio
de la producción en términos de trabajo con
respecto a los demás países.

De este modo, al seguir este principio todos

los países saldrían ganando con el comercio y
se lograría la misma eficiencia a nivel
internacional.
Las razones que lo llevaron a trabajar sobre
este análisis a Adam Smith fueron tres:

Que un país tenga ventaja absoluta en la producción de un bien,

significa que ese país puede producir una unidad de ese bien con una
menor cantidad de trabajo que la usada por el otro país para producir
el mismo bien.
 La Idea Principal
Smith sugiere que un país puede ser más eficiente que otro en la
producción de algunos bienes.

Dos países pueden beneficiarse con ello, especializándose en aquello

en lo que son buenos:

Supongamos dos países, Inglaterra y Portugal, que producen dos bienes,
tela y vino.

Los costes de producción de tela y vino son los siguientes: en Inglaterra el

coste de producir 100 metros de tela es de 8 horas de trabajo, mientras
que en Portugal es de 10 horas.

PRODUCCION INGLATERRA PORTUGAL

100 Litros de Vino 7 Horas 5 Horas
Consumo Tela (m) 80,000 60,000
Consumo Vino ( l ) 10,000 8,000
 COSTO DE PRODUCCION
En Inglaterra el coste de producir 100 litros de vino es de 7 horas, mientras
que en Portugal es de 5 horas.

Suponemos un consumo en Inglaterra de 80.000 metros de tela y 10.000

litros de vino, mientras que en Portugal el consumo es de 60.000 metros de
tela y 8.000 litros de vino.
