El Uso de There Is y There Are

Significan hay, siendo There is usado para hablar en singular y There are para
hablar en plural

Examples:

There is food on the table (Hay comida sobre la mesa).

There is water in the park (Hay agua en el parque).
There is no food for him (No hay comida para él).
There is no juice (No hay jugo)
There is no work for me (No hay trabajo para mi)
There are five books here (Hay cinco libros aquí)
There are four letters for you (Hay cuatro cartas para tí)

Nota: Usamos No, en lugar de not cuando está la negación depués de el sujeto, o
no hay sujeto.

Para formar los pasados usamos Was y Were en lugar de Is y Are. Es decir There
was (Singular) y There Were (Plural), equivale esto a decir Hubo.

Examples:

There was a camera in my room (Había una cámara en mi habitación)

There were no dogs here (No hubo perros aquí)

Para hacer preguntas anteponemos Is y Are a There en presente, y en pasado

anteponemos Was y Were a There.

Examples:

Is there a letter for me? (¿Hay una carta para mí?)

Is there a boy here? (¿Hay un niño aquí?)
Are there any oranges on the table? (¿Hay “algunas” naranjas en la mesa?)
Are there any books in the library? (¿Hay “algunos” libros en la biblioteca?)
Was there a gift for you? (¿Había un regalo para tí?)
Was there a war in Europe? (¿Hubo una guerra en Europa?)
Was there no sugar? (¿No había azúcar?)
Were there tomatoes in the sack? (¿Había tomates en el saco?)
Were there coins in the bag? (¿Había monedas en la bolsa?)

Nota: En inglés usamos Any en las preguntas y negaciones, este tiene significado de
alguno, al traducirlo de las preguntas al español no se suele dar significado, es decir
actúa como un auxiliar, pero su significado es nulo. Por tal motivo en los ejemplos de
arriba lo pongo dentro de “” con el fin de dar a entender que puede ser omitido, ese
significado.

El Futuro se forma con There + Will be, lo que tendría el significado de habrá

Example:

There will be war this year (Habrá guerra este año)

There will be a cure this month (Habrá una cura este mes)
There will be work for you (Habrá trabajo para tí)
There will be no rain this summer (No habrá lluvia este verano)

Como ya se habrán dado cuenta, para formar las preguntas en futuro se antepone Will
Be a There.

Will be there a cure this year? (¿Habrá una cura este año?)
Will be there work for you? (¿Habra trabajo para tí?)

Nota: Usamos Will Be tanto para plurales como singulares.

Were there french potatoes for dinner? ¿Hubo papas a la francesa de cena?

There will be (Habrá) Singular, Afirmativo, Futuro.

There will be one hundred things better (Habrá cien cosas mejores)
