In opening the valve, the plug is raised, thus rettacting the seating segments or sips through thelr tapered dovetail connections. Only after the slips are fully retracted perpendicularly trom the body seat isthe plug rotated to the open position. ‘Conversely in closing the vaive, the plug and slips are rotated treely, with no sealto-body contact, until the ‘lips are positioned over the ports, Then the plug is driven down between the slips and the tapered surlaces Wedge out the sips for a positive upstream as well as down-stream shul-of For maximum upstream eeall (Do not back off. Do not use cheaters, ‘The small Omniscal* plug valve are handwheel operated, and requite up to 3 tums to open or close. Up 10 254 tuins expand or retract the slips, while turn rotates the plug. Large valves operate in a similar manner, except that they have enclosed weather-proot worm gearing, ‘Al. the top of the valve, a position indicator flag shows the exact plug position. it appears in line with the flow ‘when the valve is open and perpendicular to the flow when the valve Is closed. ‘Since OmniSeat* valves hold bubbie-tight for ease of opening in quid service, i is important to prevent trapped body pressure from exceeding the working pressure ot the valve. Thetefore, a relief system is ‘required to prevent pressure bullaup in the body cavity. poor INSTALLATION ORIENTATION (OMNI ‘Omniseal® DBAS expanding plug valve may be installed in any position. FLOW DIRECTION “The OmniSeat® plug vaive design is symmetrical Flow shutoff is achieved equally on both sides of the plug in-dependent of flow cirection. ‘Note: The use of a Difletential Thermal Reliet (OTR) as desctiped on pages 6-7 does result in a preferred flow direction. CLEARANCE FOR REPAIR, For easy repair, space should be allowed below the valve for emoval of the lower plate and withcrawval ofthe seating slips, ‘See Table 1 for dimensions. Sufficient clear space Is required above the OmniSeal® plug valve, to allow ftee movernant of tne ‘position indicator flag and for removal ofthe operator mechanism. FLANGE FASTENERS: Certain Omnniseal® plug valve flange holes ate atiled ang ‘tapped, when there fs no possiblity of fting a hexagonal nut behind the ange, The quantiy and size of these tapped holes |s shown in Table 2. Therefore, the OmniSeal® in ‘iquid service requires a pressure relief device, ‘The ditteremtial (pressure) thermal relief (OTR) system is one Such automatic “deviee" and should be included on every automated vate, HOW IT WORKS, “The differential (pressure) thermal relief (OTR) system ls arranged as shown below. A ‘variety of components are used in the DT. The relief valve mounted in the center of {he valve body pipes over pressure to upstream throat of the valve. “The standard relief valve is set to open at 25 psi on all valves regardless of working pressure, With the valve closed, the reli valve will open at 25 psi above upstream. pressure. This system functions only when the valve is closed, ‘A manual body bleed valve is included on the OmniSeai® as standard. This bleed valve Installed in the relet system is opened atter the Omniseal* is eosed. Seal etteciveness ‘can be immediately evaluated, after alowing a few seconds for stabilization of cavity ‘volume dus to entrained air of gas. Ths bleed valve must be closed before the ‘OmniSeal® ts reopened. ‘An isolation valve installed in the upstream throat tap is iso included on the standard DTA. It must be lett open to permit relief system to relieve pressure upstream. The isolation valve will be used only for maintenance and troubleshooting which wil be ‘explained later, Valve is to be CLOSED ONLY FOR REPAIR, If closed during normal ‘operation the automatic portion ofthe relief system (relieticheck valve) will be defeated (The outlet of the rete valve would close when closing ine isolation vaive), ‘The remaining components of the bleed system Le., tube ftings, nipples, pipe tings fete, are nat functionally involves in “how ft works" but may be invoNed in "why it doesnt work" which wil be discussed lates, ogee (OMNI MANUAL BLEED WITH (DTR) SYSTEM DISCHARGED TO FLOW LINE WHY IT'S IMPORTANT ON MOTOR OPERATED VALVES Electrically powered actuators ot motor operators are configured normally o bypass oF ignore the opening torque limiter as the valve just begins unseating {tthe motor operated OmniSeal® has experienced any thermal expansion the pressure in the body cavity may have increased significantly above tne pressure (see tigure below) which would hydrostaticaly cause unceat load resistance.
