La literatura Inglesa comprende toda obra o texto que haya sido escrito en lengua inglesa,

dentro de las que se incluyen aquellas que se hayan inscrito tanto en inglés antiguo, como en
el inglés medieval, moderno y contemporáneo, además de añadir las obras escritas en otros
formatos dialécticos del idioma. De manera que la literatura inglesa se refiere a la escritura de
las obras y no a la procedencia del autor. La literatura inglesa nace en los inicios de la Edad
Media y termina con la Restauración, que moderó y censuró infinitamente la libertad literaria y
terminó por romper y dividir la tradicional unidad de la literatura inglesa hasta ese momento.
Posteriormente, las literaturas nacionales despertaron, y la literatura inglesa perdió
definitivamente su carácter unitario. A lo largo de este curso he aprendido que sin duda, la
literatura inglesa es una fuente inagotable de conocimiento de la lengua, no solo por las
experiencias que cuentan sus novelas, cuentos y poemas, sino porque permiten conocer la
estructura del idioma, su evolución, ampliar el vocabulario y acercarse a la historia de la
sociedad inglesa.

English literature comprises any work or text that has

been written in the English language, including those
written in Old English, medieval, modern and
contemporary English, as well as works written in other
dialectical formats of the language. Thus, English
literature refers to the writing of the works and not to the
origin of the author. English literature was born in the
early Middle Ages and ended with the Restoration, which
infinitely moderated and censored literary freedom and
ended up breaking and dividing the traditional unity of
English literature up to that time. Subsequently, national
literatures awoke, and English literature lost its unitary
character for good. Throughout this course I have learned
that English literature is undoubtedly an inexhaustible
source of knowledge of the language, not only because of
the experiences told in its novels, stories and poems, but
also because they allow us to know the structure of the
language, its evolution, to expand our vocabulary and to
approach the history of English society.
