adoquines y losas. El granito abunda en Ancash, Arequipa,
Lambayeque, Lima (Chilca) y Huancavelica (Villa Azul).

encuentran cuerpos de dioritas, granodioritas y pórfidos rojos;
claro a gris oscuro, negruzco; tonos rojizos y gris rojizo.
cuarzo y elementos ferro magnesianos.
turmalina negra y allanita parda.
transiciones a diorita potásica y diorita hornbléndica.
feldespato, ortosa, hornblenda y anfibolita.

taladros paralelos verticales y horizontales.
sociales, materiales, reparaciones y mantenimiento, servicios
varios.

The denomination granite understands igneous rocks
characterized by its size, hardness, mechanical resistance,
chemical inertia and pleasant aspect. The slates, granites and
gravels of diverse uses are included.
The components of the granite are: feldspat - quartz -
mica, belongs to the family of the rocks plutonics. The
granite of the county of Lima is an unit intrusive, conforming
an alignment North-South, something parallel to the old
highway Pan-American North; continuous in address North-
North East along the inferior course of the gulch of the
Chillón river (hills Corrales, Comas, Canto Grande, among
others). The continuation of the granites toward the South-
South East, is observed in the hills Canteras, San Gerónimo;
left flank of the Pampas of Amancaes to finish in the one
opens up of the hill San Cristóbal and the hill El Augustino. A
rock of color pink meat, homogeneous, of fine grain, is in
defined contact among the diorite of the hill Atilio and the
hill San Cristóbal.
The granite is an entirely crystallized rock; the minerals
have between 2mm. and 5mm. of size, it presents fatty shine
and rounded fracture. The feldspat orthoclase presents
variable coloration: white, rosy or red; the biotite is
presented in black hexagonal thin sheets with golden shine.
The granite is forming enormous well-known masses as
batolites; their natural division is in blocks in a rectangular
way, by means of cracks denominated diaclase that it
facilitates its beginning . The alteration of the granites micas
is avoided by means of polish, it is a rock of great duration
(Egyptian and Roman monuments).
The granite is used in all kinds of works by its great
resistance; of durable polish. It is used in form of paving
stones and flagstones. The granite is plentiful in Ancash,
Arequipa, Lambayeque, Lima (Chilca) and Huancavelica (Villa
Azul). The commercial use of the granite implies an
industrial, wider range of rocks that the geologic term,
understands to the granite - gneiss and the intermediate
components of the series granite and gabbro; taking like basic
end to the granite - diabase, anortosite and pyroxenite. To
this group of rocks it is denominated ´black graniteµ for the
dark color that presents after the refined one.
Î !
For their description intends to group them in their relative
geologic ages.
Paleozoic: Understands the stocks and apophysis of red
granite and diorite gneissic that are in the mountain range of
the south coast, between Atico and the valley of Tambo,
introducing to the schists and gneiss of the Precambric. The
age of Mejía·s red granite (Mollendo) of 460 million years
(Ordovician); the red granite is also presented in the valley of
the Marañón it leaves northern, in San Ramón·s areas and La
Merced, among others. Numerous plutoneous of diorite
granodiorite and granite exist: the granite of Pataz -
Buldibuyo, the igneous complex of Tellabamba (La Libertad),
the solid of the oriental side of the Huallaga (Huánuco -
Ambo) and that of Vilcabamba, Hualla - Hualla in Marcapata.
Mesozoic: Along the Mountain range of the South Costa they
are diorites bodies, granodiorites and red porphyries; these
rocks are considered as part of the Andean Batolite. A granite
intrusion is presented in the mountain of Amotape and the
hills of Illescas of the North Coast.
Cretaceous: The most extensive blooming in rocks
plutonious in Peru is given in the slope of the Pacific,
conforming the Andean Batolito; this complex of intrusions
varies in composition from gabbro until granite. The rocks are
holocrystallines, from thick grain to fine and variable color:
gray clear to gray dark, blackish; reddish and reddish and gray
tones.
ß Rosy granite / Chilca It is in a small blooming to the North
East of Chilca in the region of San Cayetano. It is
characterized by the color of the feldspat, their abundance in
quartz and elements ferrous magnesians.
ß Granite Orbicular / Huaraz It is presented to about 10 kms
in the outskirts of Huaraz, of the highway toward Casma;
extends on a surface of 5 hectareas. The white granite -
reddish sample a structure very marked orbicular.
ß Granite / Center Andean The granites are frequent and of
economic importance. In the Western mountain range, the
series of limestones cretaceous stockings and the red layers
have been silicificated and mineralized during the intrusion
of the granite.
ß Granite of Rumichaca / Junín The contact between the
granite and the silts is 20m. up to river from the station of
the railroad in Rumichaca. Among near Chuchurun and the
Gran Obelisco, the diaclases have led to the formation of a
kitchen knife in comb form. In the oriental limit, the granite
is fractured locally, near Uncha.
ß Granite of Huaccravilca The stock of Huaccravilca has
around 3 km of diameter and rises on the adjacent area in
more or less 600 m until the bench mark 5050m. over sea
level. It presents fenocrystalls, something of augite and dark
biotite; most of the quartz happens among grown with
feldspat.
Î
It is a rock of neighboring constitution to that of the
granite but poorer in silica and in biotite, and richer in
amphibole. The granodiorite has the same uses that the
granite, they constitute excellent materials for the one paved
and ballast. It is informed that the Romans used them for the
decoration of monuments.
ß Granodiorite / Chosica - Ricardo Palma The Batolite of the
Coast in Central Peru contains granodiorite orbicular. For
both sides of the gulch Santa María/Chosica appears the
granodiorite, cut by dikes aplitics and pegmatitics, with
structure between quartz and alkaline feldspat accompanied
by black tourmaline and brown allanite. In the bottom of the
gulch Santa María there is several small tastes.
The central sector, inside the study area, the main litology
corresponds to a granodiorite with some transitions to diorite
potassic and diorite hornblendic. Their color varies from the
gray one lightly dark to clear tones, whitish until something
rosy when there is an ortosa increment; texture
holocrystalline, to granulate thick to medium. In the
surroundings of Chosica, Ricardo Palma and Santa Eulalia, the
granodiorite presents granular texture developed with more
predominance of mineral felsic through the gulch toward
Huinco, changing its texture until becoming gray of medium
grain to become a gabbro of fine texture and dark color.
It is a granite without quartz, the fundamental elements
are the feldspat, orthoclase, hornblendic and amphibolite.
The hornblend is sometimes substituted by mica, augite or
circonio. Their texture is granulated with variable color from
the rose and violated until gray and green. It is mentioned to
the laurvikite, beautiful sienite of Norway in the surroundings
of Oslo, the presence of anortosa of dark color is noticed with
blued reflections. In France, the sienite locations are situated
in the middle of the solid ones granitic.
The sienite has close mechanical properties to those of the
granite, the same uses of great ornamental effect are given;
with a very remarkable polish and although of smaller
hardness that the granite is more tenacious and more
uniform.
"
It is a strange rock that is characterized to contain
nefeline, species of mineral of the gender feldespatoide.
They are distinguished two types: the eleolitics or plutonics
that contain the oily nefeline and the fonolites or volcanic
that contain the crystal nefeline. As accessory minerals they
present to the spheno, cicron, corumdum, apatite and iron
minerals. It is informed that explodes for little time in the
vast deposits located in the peninsula of Kola, beside the
Baltic sea, in Liningrado. The fonolites are presented in dikes,
reefs and domes; it is mentioned to the deposit of Torres del
Diablo in Colorado - USA.
The sienites nefelinics have the same applications that the
feldspats like matter prevails in the industries of the glass
and ceramic, allowing to operate with lower temperatures. It
also constitutes matter for the production of a special glass
that intercepts the noxious radiations emitted by the radio-
active waste; in the factory of electric insulators.
In Peru the existence of the two types of the sienites
nefelinics are known. This way for example, it is informed on
the geologic recognition of the solid intrusive of sienite
nefelinic near the highway that passes along the Macusani
river, for the towns of Macusani and Ollachea in the county of
Carabaya. The examined area represents a small fraction of
the blooming of the solid one, understands a strip of about 20
kms. of longitude and of 2km. to 3 km. wide along the valley
of the Macusani river. Regarding the occurrence of fonolitics
rocks of the group of sienites nefelinics, the discovery is
mentioned in the near area to the frontier with Brazil,
understood among the heads of the Utoquinca river and
flowing Abujao of the Ucayali for its right margin.

The UP Sandra is located in the skirts of the hill Huarmi -
Huañusga, among the lagoons Alcacoha and Oshgomachay, in
the district of Ulcumayo, department of Junín, to 4350m.
over sea level. The location Sandra has the form of a volcanic
dome, height average of 80 m; their diaclase surface, took
place by the rupture of the original dome. The rocks
andesitics of the quarry Sandra is broken for well-known flat
fractures as diaclase, they have almost vertical position. The
interval of the diaclase is from some centimeters to several
meters.
The ornamental quality is conditioned to the color and
grain size. The rock andesitic is of color green bottle, of
texture intermediate faneritic and commercially has the
name of ´green granite.µ
The exploitation of the quarry Sandra uses perforation of
vertical and horizontal parallel drills. After the clippings, it
proceeds to prepare a front quarry. The process begins of out
toward inside and of up down, forming staggered banks; the
height of these banks keeps direct relationship with the
dimensions of the commercial blocks and with the demands of
the market. The volume of each block is of 8.0 - 12.0 m3,
with weight average between 24.0 and 35.0 tons. The demand
of the material settles down in 200 monthly m3.
The total cost ascends 600 US$/m3 and understands the
costs of exploitation, transport, administration and sales. The
predominant elements are: wages, salaries, social laws,
materials, repairs and maintenance, services of third, electric
power, depreciation of active and other several ones.

debida a:
· Diferencias de paleogeografía y clima durante su
deposición, y · Distinta historia geológica posterior.
* Provincia Andes Nor Occidentales
excede a 5.0 m.
subverticales, muchas veces invertidos.
missisipianas.
* Provincia Subandina

realidad criptocristalino a microcristalino.

Periods of Formation
In Peru there were three main periods of the formation of
the coal:
· Missisipian - carboniferous inferior, (Paleozoic) ·
Transition of the Jurassic one to the Cretaceous, (Mesozoic) ·
Mioceno, (Third)
The deposits of coal of the mentioned periods, differ to
each other for their magnitude, extension, quality, range and
they appear with few exceptions in different areas. With this
it is possible to determine carboniferous counties that
contain carboniferous locations with genesis and similar
characteristics.
Anthracites Paleozoics
The deposits of missisipians coal are pre-andeans and they
are in the Oriental Mountain range of the Center and South of
Peru, inside the Formation of Ambo.
The well-known deposits are lagoons, they have lentil
character, high content of ashy and reduced extension. The
tectonic interference is strong and the range corresponds to
the anthracites.
They are also small coal occurrences and anthracite
missisipian, in the Mountain range of the coast of the
department of Ica.
Mesozoic coal
During the transition of the Jurassic one to the Cretaceous
were formed coal in several regions of Peru. The coal and
their locations vary from an area to another; this variation is
due to:
· Paleogeography differences and climate during their
deposition, and · Different later geologic history.
ß County Andes Nor Western
The economically more important deposits were deposited
in the Western Cubeta of the North of Peru. The basin
extends from the north of the department of Lima, until the
south of the department of Cajamarca, continuing to both
sides the dividing of the waters among the oceans Pacific and
Atlantic. The coal appears in the Inter Andean Fringe and in
the valleys of the Western Mountain range, where the erosion
removed the volcanic cover.
The deposits in general are productive series of 100m. to
more than 200m. of power with several parallel mantels, and
with dozens of kilometers of longitude. They are located
along the transition among the Jurassic Formation of Oyón
and Cretaceous Chimú.
The mantels of coal are associated with lutites and they are
in both formations. The Formation of Oyón is composed by
silts clastics like lutites, lodolites and gritty fine. The
mantels in the Formation of Chimu are more numerous and
they group together with lutites and little gritty in several
packages of some meters of thickness, separated to each
other by several dozens of quartz meters.
The combined thickness of the exploitable mantels in a
package, exceeds 5.0 m. The longitudes of mantels vary from
few hundreds of meters to several kilometers. For example
on high Chicama, the main mantels are prolonged for dozens
of kilometers.
Most of the carboniferous mantels are vertical and
subverticals, inverted many times. In general, the directions
are parallel to the Andes; in the department of La Libertad,
the carboniferous series forks also presenting traverse
directions.
The mantels of the Formation of Oyon is more affected by
the tectonism that those of the Formation of Chimu. The
resulting deformation is more marked in the vertexes than in
the flanks of the anticlinals. The milled coal and blended
with lutites is denominated slacks.
The coal of the Western Cubeta was transformed into its
biggest part in anthracite. The few areas where the coal is
presented, are located near the Arco Marañon and in places
with reduced magmatism, for example in Oyón department of
Lima.
ß County of the Center of Peru
The extension of the Mesozoic carboniferous deposits in the
Center of Peru is of few kilometers. The coal is generally
dirty, however, in some basins big thicknesses of quite pure
coal was deposited (bed of Goyllarisquizga).
Regionally, the coal reached the range of coal and only near
the intrusives was transformed into anthracite. The coal
Mesozoic are located, sometimes to the Ambo Group with
anthracite missisipians.
ß Sub-Andean County
The Sub-Andean Fringe corresponds to the Oriental Cubeta;
it is almost unexplored for coal. The few opposing
carboniferous mantels are in the Formation of Cushabatay of
the Orient Group that for their litología and age corresponds
to the Formation of Chimú of the Western Cubeta.
The coal of the blooming of the Formation of Cushabatay is
a coal; the same range has the cabinets of the Orient Group
examined with ends of oil exploration.
ß County of the South - West
The Mesozoic coal of the Western Mountain range in the
south of the country, appears in few areas where the covered
with the volcanic Cenozoics was removed by erosion. The
mantels of coal are thinner in the North and they are in the
Formation Labra of the Yura Group; these mantels are
exploited in some places.
Tertiary lignites
In the north of the country, at the end of the Tertiary, they
were formed mantels of lignites. The Formation of Pebas
contains the highest potential of lignites, this formation
underlies to the Amazon Plain North-East of Peru and of the
bordering areas of Brazil and Colombia.
The problem of many tertiary lignites, is the high content
of ashy and sulfur. Lignite deposits with smaller thicknesses
and extension are in the departments of Cajamarca and
Tumbes. The location of Yanacancha near Cajamarca is
commercially exploded.

The graphite is a crystallized form of the coal that differs
of those non- crystallized by its properties and uses. Their
ignition temperature is very high; for this reason it can be
used as refractory, for example in the production of foundry
molds, hearths, among others. The graphite is also a good
driver of the heat and electricity, for this reason is used in
the production of electrodes.
The hardness of the graphite is 1 according to the scale of
Mohs; their texture is perfect and its sheets can be bended,
which allows to use it as solid lubricant.

They are distinguished two graphite varieties: the
´crystallineµ and the ´amorphousµ. The diameter of the
glasses of the first variety should surpass the minimum of 0.2
mm; is formed for the regional metamorphism; their price is
much higher that the second variety.
The graphite ´amorphousµ has smaller glasses being in fact
criptocrystaline to microcrystaline. It can be in the
metamorphic aureoles of the intrusives.
The graphite of Peru is ´amorphousµ or criptocrystaline.
Most was formed of Mesozoic coal for contact metamorphism.
The deposits are small and they are presented in the
departments of Piura, La Libertad, Ancash and Lima.
In the department of Piura, was also graphite in the Olmos
Group near the village Bigote, formed by regional
metamorphism. It is a graphite quite impure criptocrystaline;
their existence is an important indication of the Paleozoic age
of the rocks metamorphised.
