The coupling mode on an oscilloscope determines how the input signal is displayed by filtering out certain components of the signal. There are three primary coupling modes available: 1. **DC Coupling**: Displays both AC and DC components of the signal, showing the entire signal waveform. 2. **AC Coupling**: Filters out DC components, displaying only the AC portion of the signal, which is useful for observing AC signals that may be riding on a DC level . 3. **Ground Coupling**: Displays a flat line at zero volts, which serves as a reference point to measure the signal amplitude against the ground level .
In real-time sampling, a single cycle of sampling is used to capture the waveform directly, which can result in missing very fast events if the sampling rate is not high enough. It is typically used when the sampling rate is relatively low, such as 250 MSa/s or lower. Equivalent-time sampling, on the other hand, uses multiple cycles of sampling to capture the waveform. This allows for capturing greater detail for each slower cycle, especially useful for repetitive signals at high sampling rates above 250 MSa/s, with a maximum equivalent time sampling rate of 25 GSa/s .
To return the setup and measurement settings to factory defaults on the OD-400 series oscilloscopes, press the Save/Recall key followed by the function key F1. This action reloads the factory default settings . The default settings include: Acquisition Mode set to Normal, Channel Coupling to DC, Inversion Off, BW limit Off, and Probe attenuation at x1. Other settings include Cursor Source: CH1, Horizontal and Vertical Type set to None, Display Type as Vectors, Accumulate Off, and Graticule: Horizontal Scale: 2.5us/Div. The Trigger Type is Edge with Source: Channel1, Mode: Auto, and Coupling: DC ."}
Saving and recalling data involve using the oscilloscope’s internal memory or external SD card. To save data, access the SAVE/RECALL menu, choose either images (.bmp format) or waveforms (.csv format), and select the desired storage medium. Data can be retrieved in RECALL mode, allowing users to load stored configurations, images, or waveforms efficiently, facilitating repeated setups and analysis without reconfiguration .
Waveform data on OD-400 series oscilloscopes can be saved either in the internal memory or on an external SD card. The data can be stored in .csv format for waveform data, which is compatible with applications like Microsoft Excel. The display image can be saved in .bmp format. Saved waveforms and configurations can later be recalled to be used as reference waveforms A or B. This saves time when performing repetitive tasks, as the settings or waveforms can be reloaded without manual reconfiguration .
To manually trigger an oscilloscope when auto-triggering fails, use the FORCE key to capture the input signal regardless of trigger conditions, or use the SINGLE key to capture a signal once upon a trigger event. This is necessary when the oscilloscope fails to auto-capture due to low signal amplitude or uncommon events. After forcing a trigger, the signal is captured instantly, aiding in capturing challenging or rare signal instances .
Real-time sampling captures waveforms using a single cycle of sampling, which can miss rapid transient events but is effective for lower sampling rates. It is used when the sampling rate is 250 MSa/s or less. Equivalent-time sampling is advantageous for repeated signals with sampling rates higher than 250 MSa/s, as it captures multiple cycles for greater detail. The maximum equivalent time sampling rate is 25 GSa/s. This mode is beneficial for observing detailed characteristics of repetitive signals, particularly when high precision is required .
To perform a Fast Fourier Transform (FFT) on an oscilloscope, you must first press the Math key and repeatedly press the F1 (Operation) key to select FFT. Then, use the F2 key to choose the source channel, and the F3 key to select the type of FFT window you wish to use, such as Hanning or Rectangular. Once these steps are taken, the FFT result appears on the display, altering the horizontal scale from time to frequency and the vertical scale from voltage to decibels (dB). This transformation allows you to analyze the frequency components of the signal more easily. To adjust the position of the FFT waveform, you can press F4 (Position) and use the Variable knob. You can also change the vertical scale of the FFT waveform by using the Unit/Div repeatedly and the Vertical knob ."}
The waveform accumulation feature in oscilloscopes allows the preservation of older waveform drawings while overlaying new waveforms, which aids in observing waveform variations over time . This feature can be enabled by pressing the Display key, followed by the Accumulate (F2) key to toggle the feature on and off. To clear accumulated waveforms, the Refresh (F3) key is used . Accumulation is beneficial in signal analysis to see how a waveform changes, vital for identifying consistency or variation in signal behavior .
Setting the bandwidth limit on an oscilloscope helps in improving signal clarity by applying a 20 MHz low-pass filter, which effectively reduces high-frequency noise, allowing for a clearer view of the waveform shape . The typical cutoff frequency for this feature is 20 MHz (-3dB).
