Paul McCartney escribió esta letra sobre el esfuerzo que tuvo que llevar a cabo para mantener a la
banda unida, tras la muerte de Brian Epstein. Este había sido su manager durante mucho tiempo,
encargándose de toda la parafernalia que rodeaba a los Beatles, hasta que murió de una sobredosis
de calmantes, abrumado por todo el trabajo y estrés que sufrió con semejante tarea. O eso dicen. En
una entrevista, Paul dijo que la carga emocional de esta canción tenía que ver con la cantidad de
problemas derivadas del uso de las drogas que aparecieron entorno a la banda, además de las
dificultades que tuvieron con el manager que vino después, Allen Klein. Apple Corps, una
corporación fundada por la banda para llevar todos sus temas artísticos y de imágen tenían
bastantes pufos cuando Klein llegó. Sin duda se echaban de menos los viejos tiempos, cuando tan
solo eran cuatro chavales, no tan famosos, y por ello, sin tantos problemas con el dinero (y no
precisamente por falta de él, sino lo contrario).
