PRESIDENCIA
José Mujica, popularmente conocido como el Pepe. Sin dudas es el político con mayor presencia en
los últimos años en todos los medios masivos de comunicación. Hombre de respuestas rápidas y
frases explosivas que hacen las delicias de los periodistas que lo entrevistan.
Desde 2005 está casado con Lucía Topolansky, dirigente histórica del Movimiento de Participación
Popular y además vicepresidenta de Uruguay desde septiembre de 2017.

presidente, usada únicamente para actos oficiales. José Mujica ha llamado la atención

arreglamos en un momentito", dice.
"Si tengo pocas cosas, necesito poco para sostenerlas", razona. "Por lo tanto, mi tiempo de trabajo
que dedico es el mínimo. ¿Y para qué me queda tiempo? Para gastarlo en las cosas que a mí me
gustan. En ese momento creo que soy libre".
Después de ser presidente, Pepe Mujíca fue electo senador nuevamente, en las elecciones de 2014.
Renunció a este último cargo el 14 de agosto de 2018, retirándose de la actividad política como
gobernante para dedicarse a la militancia popular, pues él es el líder del Movimiento de
Participación Popular, sector mayoritario del partido de izquierda Frente Amplio.
En noviembre de 2019, antes del balotaje presidencial, el candidato Daniel Martínez Villamil lo
mencionó como posible ministro de Ganadería en un eventual nuevo gobierno frenteamplista.

José Mujica, popularly known as El Pepe. Without a doubt, he is the politician with the greatest

Since 2005 he has been married to Lucía Topolansky, historical leader of the Popular Participation
Movement and also vice president of Uruguay since September 2017.

He has been using a 1987 (one thousand nine hundred eighty-nine) Volkswagen Beetle as his
means of transport since before that him was president
The press generally considers him to be one of only two openly atheistic presidents in America,
along with former Cuban president Raul Castro.
In late 2013, Serbian filmmaker Emir Kusturica began filming a documentary on the life of José
Mujica, whom he considers "the last hero of politics. The film was finally released at the 2018
Venecia Film Festival under the title “El Pepe, una vida suprema.”
It has also inspired several musicians to make their compositions as they are: The Spanish singer-
songwriter Rozalén who includes a speech by José Mujica on his most popular album "Cuando el
río suena...", specifically on the song "Girasoles" and the Spanish musician, actor and writer Jose
Riaza also uses several of José Mujica's speeches as a guide for his concept album "Despertares, a
rock music and humanist message album.
After becoming president, Pepe Mujíca was elected senator again in the 2015 elections.
In November 2019, before the presidential ballot, candidate Daniel Martínez Villamil mentioned
him because he will to is a possible Minister of Livestock in an eventual new Frenteamplista
government.
