Application of transdermal patch of Alprazolam

The drug has to pass through the stratum corneous and spread to the epidermis and dermis
from where it accesses the blood circulation. The methods that describe the kinetics of
transdermal absorption are based on the laws of diffusion and the behavior of the organism.
The passive diffusion of a molecule through the skin depends on its concentration and its
gradient towards the different subcutaneous layers, from the outer layer to the deepest layer.
The characteristics of the transport through the skin can be deduced from the diffusion
properties on the stratum corneous and allows us to use the laws of Fick as a theoretical basis
for the transport of a molecule through the skin.
The figure show that outside the distribution phenomenon in the interface, the concentration
profile of a molecule is determined by the decrease in concentration in the stratum corneum
that acts as a barrier.
