INTERESES
Asimismo, me
REFERENCIAS PROFESIONALES
As Regional Training Coordinator at Enseña por México, part of the global Teach For All network, I’ve
had the opportunity to work with Jorge during his two years as Profesional Enseña por México (PEM).
Our PEMs commit two years to teach in public schools in some of the most marginalized
communities in Mexico. In collaboration with their students, PEMs set ambitious personal and
academic goals for their students, and they guide and motivate their students to reach them. All this
with the objective of giving students the freedom to pursue any opportunity they want in life, and to
close the yawning achievement gap between students growing up in wealthy families and their peers
from communities with high levels of poverty so that one day, all children in Mexico will have access
to an excellent education. We believe that this work is also key to developing our PEM-alumni into
the leaders who will fuel the movement to make public education in Mexico and the world more
equitable.
In the 2015-16 school year, Jorge worked at Telesecundaria 408 Niños Héroes in El Limón, Tzimol,
Chiapas, a rural community in the southeastern part of one of Mexico’s most underdeveloped states.
He taught English to a group of 19 students whose first language is Spanish. In addition, he was
responsible for teaching Cívica y Ética to all second and third year students at the school (equivalent
to 8th and 9th grade in the US). In addition to planning rigorous units of study and daily lessons, Jorge
gathered data and tracked student progress in order to differentiate instruction to meet each
student’s needs.
Aside from his work in English and Civics and Ethics, Jorge tutored students in Reading and Writing
and led his students in a community service project to establish more green space on the school
campus. Initiatives like these show Jorge’s commitment to leave a lasting impact on his students
and the school community beyond simply working toward excellence in the classroom, and
underscore his belief in the importance of involving parents, community members, and other
stakeholders in their children’s education in order to have a lasting impact.
Jorge recognizes that it is the responsibility of a teacher to guarantee all students reach high
expectations. As a result, Jorge sought to constantly improve in the efficacy of his work. During his
time in Enseña por México, he sought out opportunities for professional development, looking for
resources to improve his reading and writing instruction, for example, and piloting a Guided Reading
framework in his classroom. Jorge also applied for and was accepted to an international exchange,
“Aulas sin Frontera”, between participants of Enseña por México and Teach For America. During his
weeklong stay in Baltimore, Maryland in the spring of 2016, Jorge broadened his perspective on
what a quality education looks like in other contexts and shared best practices with other
participants in the exchange. Upon returning to Mexico, Jorge brought many of these ideas back with
him and adapted and implemented them in his own classroom with the goal of increasing his
effectiveness and leaving a deeper impact on his students.
In addition to seeking out personal growth and professional development, Jorge has demonstrated a
commitment to teamwork and collaboration. He is open to seeking help from others, but also willing
to share his ideas with other PEM. He is highly fluent in English, and always takes advantage of
opportunities to practice. And perhaps most importantly, Jorge faces the challenges of teaching in
low-income communities with a positive attitude and a deep sense of possibility. This enthusiasm
has been an important factor in his success with his students and has also proven contagious—I
believe that his presence on the Chiapas team has been invaluable in creating a positive team
culture and sense of identity.
During the past two years, I’ve had the privilege of Jorge’s leadership development. With everything
he’s learned as a Profesional Enseña por México, and the many positive mindsets that characterize
his work with his students, I strongly recommend Jorge for the position of Bilingual Teacher. He has
the key competencies to do an excellent job in this role, and the appreciation for the constant self-
driven reflection necessary to continue developing toward excellence in teaching.
Please don’t hesitate to contact me if you have further questions about my experience working with
Jorge in Enseña por México, or about his qualifications for the role to which he is applying.

Carta de recomendación
Comitán, Chiapas. Abril 8 de 2017
A quien corresponda
Atentamente
I met Jorge Larios when he was a freshman in my Math course at Normal Fronteriza
Tijuana. I had the opportunity to work with him on several research projects where he
acted as my assistant.
Jorge is qualified and can contribute because his has developed several teaching skills and
competencies, and because he brings a tremendous amount of energy and enthusiasm to all
of his activities.
