The Embassy of the Republic of Peru presents its compliments to the
Ministry of Culture of the Kingdom of Thailand, and has the honor to refer to the
Embassy's Note No. 035/2015, dated 20" March 2017, informing alert the existence of a
Colonial Painting titled “Virgin of Guadalupe” which belongs to the Santiago Apostol
Church of Ollantaytambo, Urubamba, Cusco, Peru, that could be illegally sold from the
United States of America,
In this regard, the Embassy of Peru has the honor to convey herewith the
additional information of the aforementioned painting.
In addition, the Embassy of Peru would like to inform that this matter
will be forwarded to the Royal Thai Police Headquarter as well, including its register at
the International Foundation for Art Research from 1983
The Embassy of the Republic of Peru avails itself of this opportunity to
renew to the Ministry of Culture of the Kingdom of Thailand, the assurances of its
highest consideration.

GENERAL INFORMATION
Name: “Virgin of Guadalupe with the cycle of apparitions”
Category: Historic - artistic
Description: A painting with the image of the “Virgin of Guadalupe”, full body and standing on
Crescent sustained by an angle, dressed in tunic and mantle designs in gold, has the face tilted,
with the low gaze and the golden crown, hold hand in prayer position, and is surrounded by the
sparkling mandorla. There is the ornamentation following an oval section with volutes and
cartouche, containing images of the apparitions of the Virgin with the Indian Juan Diego on the
four comers. On the middle part, there is a Virgin with the baby and the Immaculate Virgin, on
the central top part, there is a scene with the buildings and the hermitage. Towards the central
low part a Piety, complement with ribbons and flowering branches that intertwine, the
background is the clouds. With inscription: oil painting on canvas.
