B._NOZZLE MOVEMENT OF EQUIPMENT
‘The nozzle thermal movement of equipment shall be calculated based on
the following method, unless otherwise specified by equipment
manufacturer. To determine NOZZLE MOVEMENT OF EQUIPMENT, the temperature
difference between operating temperature (calculation temperature) and
installation temperature shall be taken.
3.1 COLUMN, VERTICAL VESSEL AND REACTOR
When the temperature difference between different elevations is expected,
total thermal movement shall be calculated in accordance with Table 3-1-1
and Fig. 3-1-2.
Equipment temperature at each proper operating condition on equipment
data sheet or vendor drawing shall be taken. If it’s not applicable,
operating temperature of outlet line on LINE LIST may be taken.
Radial movement of nozzle and support shall be considered, when
temperature difference between installation temperature and calculation
temperature exceeds 100 deg.C or shell diameter exceeds 1 m in accordance
with Fig.3-1-3 and Fig.3-1-4.
unless otherwise specified, thermal expansion and contraction of skirt
may be ignored.PB CANO ram

PUMP, STEA
Vendor’s recommended nozzle movement shall be taken.
If it’s not applicable, based on fixed point of casing supplied by vendor,
the nozzle movement may be calculated in accordance with the location
of the fixed point of pump.
The following is a sample calculation basis of pump nozzle movement, which
has fixed point at the center of casing.
Thermal movement of base plate and casing support may be ignored.

3.5 TANK
(1)In case of the cylindrical tank, bulging of the tank shell due to
the hydraulic pressure of the contained fluid is more dominant than
thermal expansion, and it will seriously influence piping stress.
The movement of nozzle shall be given from tank manufacturer or shall
be calculated in accordance with API 650 Appendix P. In principle,
the movement of nozzle should be given from tank engineer.

(2) The movement of nozzle by the thermal expansion may be ignored in
case of ambient temperature tank. However, as to refrigerated tank
including spherical tank and storage tank, thermal expansion shall
be considered.
(3) Settlement depends on soil data.
3.6 BIR COOLED HEAT EXCHANGER (AFC)
vendor's recommended nozzle movement shall be taken.
If it’s not applicable, the movement of AFC nozzle shall be
calculated in consideration with AFC type and the location of AFC supports
and fixed points.
The following are sample calculations of AFC.
3.6.1 VERTICAL NOZZLE MOVEMENT
vertical nozzle movement shall be calculated in accordance with Fig.

3.7 FURNACE
In general, fixed points (guides and stoppers) of furnace nozzles are located
at outside wall of the furnace, and those guides and stoppers are individually
designed depending on type of furnaces.
Therefore the nozzle movement of furnace nozzle shall be confirmed with
a furnace engineer together with the support condition of the furnace
nozzle.
The following should be taken into account the piping flexibility
analysis;
(1) The restraint condition at furnace nozzle (fix, guide-or stopper)
(2) Clearance between furnace nozzle and guide or stopper
(3) The possibility of piping and furnace tube combined model for piping
analysis, in the case that thermal stress or reactions exceed
allowable.
