Miguel Grau naci en Paita el 27 de julio 1834 .Su padre fue Juan Manuel Grau y Berro y su madre, Luisa
Seminario y del Castillo. La primera vez que fue a la mar cuando tena nueve aos de edad, ir a la
Fortuna, Colombia, a bordo de una goleta mercante.
INICIOS DE SU CARRERA
Cuando la Guerra del Pacfico entre Chile contra Bolivia y Per se inici el 5 de abril de 1879, Miguel
Grau estaba a bordo del Huscar , como su capitn y el comandante de la Armada. En un impresionante
despliegue de dominio naval, Capitn Grau jug un papel importante en la interdiccin de las lneas
chilenas de comunicacin y alimentacin, los daos, la captura o la destruccin de varias naves
enemigas, y el bombardeo de las instalaciones portuarias.
BATALLA DE IQUIQUE
Almirante Grau fue muerto por un proyectil perforante disparado por el acorazado Almirante Cochrane
en un duelo de cuatro contra uno durante la Batalla Naval de Angamos el 8 de octubre de 1879. Aunque
la mayor parte del cuerpo de Grau no se recuper, sus restos, que fueron enterrados con honores
militares en Chile y fueron devueltos a Per en 1958.Su lugar de descanso final se encuentra en la
Escuela Militar Naval del Per.
MIGUEL GRAU
Miguel Grau was born in Paita on July 27, 1834 .Your father was Juan Manuel Grau and Berro and her

Early career
In 1853, at the age of 19, he left the merchant navy and became an official candidate of the Navy of
Peru. In 1864, he was sent to Europe to supervise the construction of ships for the Peruvian fleet. In
1868, he was called to the Navy and was appointed commander of Huscar with the rank of lieutenant
commander and was later promoted to commander. On June 1, 1874, he became the commanding
officer of the fleet of the Peruvian Navy as captain.
Pacific war
When the War of the Pacific between Chile against Bolivia and Peru began on April 5, 1879, Miguel Grau
was aboard the Huascar, as captain and commander of the Navy. In an impressive display of naval
domain, Captain Grau played an important role in the interdiction of Chilean power and communication
lines paper, damage, capture or destruction of several enemy ships, and the bombing of the port
facilities.
Battle of iquique
In the port of Antofagasta, after sneaking up on an enemy ship Matias Cousino, who politely asked the
crew to abandon ship before opening fire. As captain Castleton abandoning ship, ships of Chilean White
Whitewashed and Admiral Cochrane were presented, forcing Grau to abandon its prey and then
seriously off Matias Cousino These and other gestures earned him the nickname Knight the seas .
Admiral Grau was killed by an armor-piercing shell fired by the battleship Almirante Cochrane in a duel
of four to one during the Naval Battle of Angamos on 8 October 1879. Although most of the body Grau,
his remains were not recovered, which were buried with military honors in Chile and were returned to
Peru in 1958.Su final resting place is in the Naval military School of Peru.
