Trama
Una futurista ciudad de Chicago tiene la poblacin dividida en facciones, grupos de
personas con singulares valores culturales, religiones y conductas. Hay cinco facciones
diferentes de la ciudad:

1. Verdad (La sinceridad) 2. Erudicin (La inteligencia) 3. Cordialidad (La paz) 4.

Osada (La valenta) 5. Abnegacin (La generosidad)
La protagonista, Beatrice Prior, llamada ms tarde "Tris", se cri en Abnegacin, donde la
generosidad se mantiene por encima de todo. La generosidad no viene naturalmente de
Beatrice, sino de la enseanza de sus padres. Ella se siente sola y oprimida, rodeada de
gente que no piensa como ella. Cuando los jvenes cumplen diecisis aos deben asistir a
una Prueba de Aptitud la cual determina a qu faccin pertenece cada uno, eligiendo vivir
en la otra faccin o quedarse con sus padres. La prueba consiste en una simulacin,
durmiendo a los adolescentes con un lquido especializado para hacerlos soar en una
especie de prueba que pareciera real. Para su sorpresa, Tris descubre que es capaz de
manipular las simulaciones y tomar decisiones prohibidas, despus se entera de que es
una Divergente (persona capaz de manipular las simulaciones). Ella no encaja en ninguna
de las facciones, ya que tiene aptitud igual para tres facciones diferentes (Abnegacin,
Osada, y Erudicin), lo que la aterroriza. Beatrice tiene que sobrevivir siendo
una Divergente, lo cual est prohibido.

Plot
A futuristic city of Chicago has the population divided into factions, groups of people with unique
cultural values, religions and behaviors. There are five different factions of the city:
1. Truth (sincerity) 2. Erudition (intelligence) 3. Cordiality (peace) 4. Dare (courage) 5. Abnegation
(generosity)
The protagonist, Beatrice Prior, later called "Tris", was raised in Abnegation, where generosity
remains above all else. Generosity does not come naturally from Beatrice, but from the teaching of
her parents. She feels lonely and oppressed, surrounded by people who do not think like her.
When young people turn sixteen they must attend a Proficiency Test which determines which
faction belongs to each one, choosing to live in the other faction or to stay with their parents. The
test consists of a simulation, sleeping adolescents with a specialized liquid to make them dream in
a kind of test that seems real. To his surprise, Tris discovers that he is able to manipulate the
simulations and make prohibited decisions, then he learns that he is a Divergent (person capable
of manipulating the simulations). She does not fit into any of the factions, since she has equal
aptitude for three different factions (Abnegation, Osada, and Erudicin), which terrifies her.
Beatrice has to survive being a Divergent, which is prohibited.
