Cul es la diferencia entre "all" y "whole". Ana

Hola Ana:
"All" y "whole" significan
"todo" pero, en ocasiones,
se utilizan de un modo
diferente.

Colocacin:
La colocacin de "all" y "whole", dentro de la oracin, es
diferente.

Por ejemplo:
- I spent the whole month of August in Greece. Yo pas todo el
mes de agosto en Grecia. Nota: El artculo "the" va delante de
"whole".
- I spent all the month of August in Greece. Nota: El artculo "the"
va detrs de "all".

"All" no se suele usar delante del artculo indeterminado

"un/uno/una".

Por ejemplo decimos:

- A whole new system has been implemented today. Hoy ha sido
implementado (todo) un nuevo sistema. Incorrecto: An all new
system has been implemented today.
- They made up a whole new story. Ellos inventaron toda una
nueva historia.
Nota: Fjate como generalmente "a whole" suele ir con "new".

"All" se suele utilizar delante de la mayora de los sustantivos

incontables. No solemos, por tanto, utilizar "whole" con
sustantivos incontables. Por ejemplo: sustantivo incontable:
"water" (un lquido)

- She drank all the milk. No decimos: She drank the whole milk.
Ella se bebi toda la leche.
- I want to have all the coffee. No decimos: I want to have the
whole coffee. Yo quiero tomarme todo el caf.
Nota: No confundas "whole" y "all" con "everything".
